What: RBKD’s Reunion Dinner

When: 24 January 2015

Where: Ang Mo Kio

Participants: Adelyn, Allan, Bihui, Candice, Corine, Edith, Huiyi, Jean, Jiamin, Joanne, Jolie, Melissa, Shannon, Shu Pei, Squeen, Weijen, Xinyi, Yanjun, Yanling, Yanping, Yeeling, Yvonne, Zhiqing

Jolie, Participant:

All of us were tired and hungry after the CNY charity drive and when it was time for dinner, we cannot help but just cheer. I think this is the first reunion dinner with this many members and it was quite a fun dinner. It was awkward at first but with both tables interacting non stop via Joanne, we did get many laughs. Towards the end, there will always be leftovers and hence start the “KEEP GOING” to finish up all the food. With Jean and Corine, we managed to finish up everything but definitely we managed to catch up with each other and have a fulfilling reunion dinner.

Huiyi, Participant:

This year was my first time taking part in the CNY reunion dinner which followed the Charity Drive and it was a really enjoyable experience!

We were all hungry (and tired) from all the activities earlier in the day, and could only sit and drool at the tempting plates of food placed in front of us as we waited for all the dishes to be served before commencing our meal! A few of us kept snapping pictures of every dish that came along; it was quite amusing! There was laughter and animated conversations throughout the meal, as we commented on the food as well as help to serve each other from opposite sides of the table

It was a welcome feast after a fulfilling day’s work, and I’m sure we all enjoyed it immensely Definitely looking forward to future RBKD events and the Charity Drive cum Reunion Dinner next year!

What: Chinese New Year Charity

When: 24 January 2015

Where: Ang Mo Kio

Participants: Adelyn, Alberton, Allan, Bengyan, Bi Hui, Candice, Celest, Celest’s mum, Clarence, Corine, Edith, Ernie, Huiyi, Jaslin, Jean, Jewel, Jiamin, Joanne, Jolie, Lionel, Lirong, Melissa, Peijun, Phyllis, Ser Chee, Shannon, Shirley, Shu Pei, Shuwen, Squeen, Suwei, Vanessa, Weijen, Xin Jie, Xinyi, Xu Hui, Yanjun, Yanling, Yanping, Yeeling, Yvonne, Zhiqing

Weijen, Participant:

I feel I am very privileged to be able to participate in this activity, organised for the 5th time by RBKD. I consider it a privilege because 2015’s charity benefited the highest number of elderly, after it has been 5 years since we started it. I consider it a privilege because throughout the day, I found out that every year, RBKD tries to learn from the experience and improve from it year after year. Obviously, for the 5th year, I think RBKD is already pretty established in how they do it, more effectively and efficiently.

I think being able to do this with RBKD is a very humbling experience. It gives me a different feeling, for example, to see a different side of Singapore, in person. It is also a fantastic day in terms of bonding with fellow Rangels. My team: Corine, Vannesa and Team Leader Shu Wen, it is a joy to be in a team with them. I think we complement each other well, of course I mean that I complement well in the sense that I can speak many languages! hahaha :D

Overall, I don’t really think this annual charity was as tough as what I imagined. Much of the work are in the preparation stage e.g. securing sponsors, so I really think what I did on that day, to deliver the goodie bags to the elderly, is just a tiny part of the job: a job that requires lots of teamwork and dedication, especially on the organising committee. They are truly the people who make things happen. Credits to them, really. Truly proud of you, Rangels and RBKD!

This aunty has a really cute dog, the white dog in the picture. I think my team spent the longest time with her among the 19 families we delivered our goodie bags to. Because the aunty was a really friendly person and the dog is simply too adorable!

It is a shame that this pic is quite blur, but we took this when 2 teams ran into each other in the lift! Spontaneous right?! That’s why I like it! :D

This pic was taken when we were already done with all the delivery job and having our break before dinner. Amazing that a selfie can be taken with sooo many people right?! Jean is really good at it! and of course, Rangels are also ever ready for photos! :D

Edith, Participant:

I’m very happy to be able to participate in the RBKD CNY charity this year as I always feel that doing charity work is a very good way for me to contribute back to the society.

We started the day by packing all the necessary items into different bags so that the distribution process will be smoother. And after packing, it’s time to distribute the items to all the elderly!

We went house to house to visit each and every elderly in the block. It’s heartwarming to see the smiles on the elderly’s faces when we gave them the items and this made me feel that a simple act of kindness is enough to make someone’s day.

That day was a fun and enriching day and I hope to be able to take part in next year’s RBKD CNY charity again.

Ser Chee, Participant:

CNY Charity – An Annual Affair.
An event that if I don’t attend, I would felt as if there’s something missing. It’s part of my CNY now.
5 years. 5 different kinds of experiences and thoughts.
But one thing remains the same. The gains, the takeaways, that’s forever increasing with each time.

Drowned in our normal hectic lives, that very often we forget to slow down and care for the people around us.
This opportunity which I really appreciate a lot, allows me the chance to give back a little.

This charity serves as a reminder.
To remind me that there are many around who are less fortunate.
To remind me that I shouldn’t take many things for granted.
To remind me that I shouldn’t forget to show love and care for my loved ones.

Really thankful to the committee for all their hard work.
Without them, without this charity, I wouldn’t have the chance to give back.
I know a ‘Thank You’ is never enough. But still, ‘Thank You!!’
And also thank you all members who made this yet another memorable experience for me.

What: CNY Charity Preparation

When: Mid-Jan 2015

Phyllis, Participant:

Few years back we took approximately 4-5 days to finish baking the cookies.
Last year, we took 2-3 days.
And this year? we managed to finish baking 280 bottles of honey joys in 1.5 days!

I guess we are getting the hang of it? Haha!

Fun facts aside, I think being able to be involved in the preparation leading up to the charity drive is definitely a meaningful one. Although it might seem like a daunting task to bake in such large quantity, the joy derived upon the completion of every bottle is unmeasurable.

This year unlike previous years, we received voucher sponsorship! Well, I was tasked with the job to jot down all the elderly’s names and unit numbers on every piece of voucher and red packet. There were literally 8 stacks of vouchers + 1 big stack of red packets piled in front of me and I was wondering to myself if it would even be possible to finish writing their details on it manually! Haha but I guess it would not be an RBKD event without some challenges right?

With all that being said, I am thankful to be given this opportunity yet again to participate in this charity drive. Thank you all who contributed to the preparation leading up to the final day because without you all it would not have been possible!

What: L’Oreal Paris Roadshow

When: 17 January 2015

Where: Jurong Point

Adelyn, Ordinary Member:

I was delighted to be able to attend the roadshow held on 17 Jan as it is always a pleasure to be able to see her up close. I’m also glad to have the opportunity to get on stage to interact and play a simple game with Rui En. Even though it is just for a few minutes, I felt blessed as I know that many fans of her don’t have the chance to.

I look forward to the next event where I can scream and support her with the rest of the members.

What: RBKD in Penang: Overall Trip

When: 20-22 March 2015

Where: Penang

Participants: Allan, Bi Hui, Candice, Celest, Jiamin, Joanne, Peijun, Phyllis, Shu Pei, Weijen, Xinyi, Yeeling

Jiamin, Secretary:

Not the first time RBKD flies overseas to visit Rui En on set, but this trip was really an impromptu one. 5 days after booking our air tickets + settle accommodation, we departed for our 3D2N to Penang!

Upon touching down, we hopped onto our rented mini-van and RBKD food tour officially begins! Look at the amount of food we managed to cover during our trip, amazing right?

And of course in between our food tour, we had the opportunity to pop over to The Journey: Our Homeland’s filming sites for a total of 3 times. It was great seeing our idol ‘adapting’ well to Penang’s (very hot) weather and I personally enjoyed the little chats we had with her in between her filming breaks. Not to forget the many selfies/welfies taken while waiting

So yup, time flies whenever you’re with good company and having lots of fun. It’s time to bade goodbye to city of cheap and good food – Penang. Shall let the pictures do the talking

Phyllis, Treasurer:

If you were to ask me what’s the thing that I love most about this Penang trip. It would definitely the food! We literally went on a 3D2N eating spree in Penang, filling our stomachs to the brim at the end of each day. It totally did not help when Penang street food is so affordable and wallet friendly. Haha.

Assam Laksa? Yes! Rojak? Yes! Char Kway Teow? Yes! Chendol? Yes! Lok Lok? Yes! Yes! Yes!

As I am typing this, I am starting to think about all these local fare all over again….. Yum!

Well, other than the really good food, the great company made this trip an even better one. Moments like when we hid in the back alley to watch the filming process, ate ice balls along the roadside or running around the beach trying to take pictures with stray dogs were unforgettable. It’s little memories like these that define a RBKD trip.

I am looking forward to another trip to Malaysia! Where we can continue to eat our hearts content and have more fun together.

What: RBKD in Penang: Site Visit

When: 20-22 March 2015

Where: Penang

Participants: Allan, Bi Hui, Candice, Celest, Jiamin, Joanne, Peijun, Phyllis, Shu Pei, Weijen, Xinyi, Yeeling

Bi Hui, Priority Member:

I wouldn’t deny that I was really looking forward and excited about this trip, since this is really the first time I ‘fly’ with RBKD members, even though it was just a short trip nearby. On the day of takeoff, I remember it was really shag and tiring for everyone… cause the flight was really early in the morning!! But things turned round when we reached our destination. Finally we’re here!!! We dragged our luggage with excitement, and drooling while thinking about the mouth-watering food waiting for us in line.

The first day was seriously a cha kway teow fever. I think we had like more than 3 different stores of CKT in a day, so much that I admit I was sick of CKT then! And even though the food was a little more salty than what we have in Singapore, the fragrance and uniqueness of the food definitely makes you wanna keep eating and sometimes, you would hope that you would not have to kill fats after eating that much in a day D:

What I liked most about this trip is how Penang could look so much like the old Singapore we once had in the 80s and 90s. Street stores just by the side of the road, cheap food, old buildings… it’s as though we flew back to the past. We even had the chance to try snacks like the ice kacang balls which our parents once enjoyed in their childhood days there! But things didn’t just go as enjoyably as it was really hot during that period of time, and most of the time we were complaining about the heat… how humid it was… and we even went to find places to “hide” ourselves in when we were resting (we actually went into a hotel and sat there for minutes just to have air-con there hahahaha!)

Then it was that small section where we had free time to visit Rui En on her shoots. Its definitely an eye opener for me as i had a little interest in how films are made behind the scenes. What really shocked me were the number of repeated scenes taken in a day. I always thought 1 scene could only take at most 3 repeats if there is no NG… apparently not. What makes things worse was the really hot and humid weather while filming…it really makes me admire the determination of every cast in the film.

Though it was a really tiring trip (I guess partly because of the really bad hot weather), somewhat I feel that it is a nice experience to go on a trip with someone you may know, but don’t know too well, to the state where we suddenly could understand each other well after a 3 day trip… That, I must agree that it is a trip that I would never regret travelling on.

Peijun, Priority Member:

On the very first day of the trip, I’ve realised that I’m not a foodie I thought I was after all this while.

While Xinyi & gang chiong-ed stalls after stalls, all I wanna do was to chill and take it slow man… I was hoping to buy something weird/special from those rundown looking shops but nothing caught my eye…

Anyway, after a visit to set, I felt that one of the perks of being in the filming industry is to be in an unreal environment that seemed real.

I mean, it could be a real place stimulated by unreal stuff – actors and props to make the unreal environment real.
I hope you get what I mean…

And the beauty of being an actor?

To immerse in the stimulated environment and feel the emotions of the character while delivering lines…

Hope your brain’s not fried from the
real and unreal.

Ciao.

What: RBKD in Penang: SG Members Visiting

When: 20-22 March 2015

Where: Penang

Participants: Allan, Bi Hui, Candice, Celest, Jiamin, Joanne, Peijun, Phyllis, Shu Pei, Weijen, Xinyi, Yeeling

Weijen, Priority Member (Penang Member):

It is not an understatement to describe it as a dream come true when I knew a group of Rangels were going to make their way to Penang from Singapore. To me, it is like ‘finally!!!’ Because I had been asking them to come over here and I would bring them for best hawker food or whatever Penang has to offer Such a shame though as the trip did not coincide with our famous durian season here.

They touched down on Friday morning, as I was not able to get my leave, so they roamed around Penang themselves from the morning until evening after I knocked off. We rented a minivan (10 seater) because the public transport here is not reliable and getting around will be really tough without private transport. As soon as we met up in the evening, we went to pasar malam!! Our pasar malam here rotates at different locations every day in a week, so certain locations are more happening than others. Friday’s pasar malam is one of the top favorite pasar malam spots! Food-wise, a lot of 小吃 are more common here, rather than hawker food. Some examples are 豆花、Lok-lok、炸鸡、酿豆腐、臭豆腐 etc.

The next day, we met up early in the morning to visit one of the oldest wet markets in Penang: Chowrasta market. Personally, it is a market that I’ve always gone to ever since I was young. It is an old-school morning wet market with stalls lined up at both sides on a long alley. Then we were off for the set visit in the afternoon. We went there with 35 bak-kwa (again, her favourite! ) roti for all the production crew – the bak-kwa roti aunty is only open for business from 4pm, but as we needed it by 3pm, so it was considered a special order! Hahaha so privileged right.

Then it was dinner time, Rangels wanted some seafood. So I brought them to a seafood 老字号 restaurant in town. But to our disappointment, the dinner was not nice (but I had no idea why many customers thronged the restaurant ) Lesson learned: do not come for seafood in Penang, because if you really want some decent and relatively cheaper ones, you have to go to Teluk Kumbar, it is located at the outskirts of Penang, which is at least an hour’s drive from town. So better have hawker fare here la ok

Then we were off to our second set visit of the day, in the UNESCO heritage area of Penang. It was the popular tourist spot with all the murals. The alley the production team was filming at was really quiet and creepy. We did not have a picture together as she was filming a heavy scene which involved crying scenes. So she was literally sobbing when she was having a very brief chat to us – she came over to us to apologise for that before saying goodbye But we continued for our supper after that, for some traditional Chinese dessert and char koay teow. And what was amazing is that…we walked back from the kopitiam to our hotel!! It was around 15-20 mins walk and the reason I said it is amazing is that…I will never do that if I were not with Rangels… I never walked such long before in Penang! but then tourists 就是要一直走一直走的嘛……沿途才可以停下脚步,欣赏夜景,哈哈哈哈。

PS 1: Xinyi discovered the 虾米淡汶饼 (which I did not know is a famous Penang 土产 :p because I don’t like 虾米) at this shop that she said ‘can meet standard and nice’, so this shop also sells other kinds of biscuits and various 土产 e.g. nutmeg. So we went to this shop and all of us ended up 大包小包,even I also bought a few stuff (seriously this was my 1st time going to the shop -_-|| aiya this kind of shops locals don’t usually go hahaha), that sight of all of us carrying 大包小包, would have given people a wrong impression that I would earn commission from the shop for bringing over all these ‘customers’ hahaha

PS 2: I went to the airport to receive Rui En upon her touching down. I brought a few egg tarts and a sizzling hot Tomyam (her favorite! ) noodles for her as welcome gift haha. She said the Tomyam is nice, it made my day haha but then that was not considered the best Tomyam, to me personally, because to make sure the soup was hot enough, I could not afford to get it too far away from airport, so ya I had to settle for Tomyam nearby airport area.

That is all my sharing! Although the few days we spent in Penang were brief, but it was memorable!! After all 她们终于来了,瑞恩也终于来这里拍戏了。To a Rangel living in Penang, this means a lot. Thank you guys for coming, for all these memories. <3

What: weareone: our sixth chapter celebrations

When: 15 November 2014

Where: Function Room

Phyllis, Priority Member:

6 facts about weareone: our sixth chapter

#1: This is the 1st time ever that we video-called members from overseas during the cake cutting session!

#2: It’s the 2nd year that we are having a “round-the-table-dinner”! Well it basically means that we all gather around a big table with lots of yummy food in the middle hehe.

#3: 3 members came down extra early to decorate the place with their self-made deco! (kudos Jasmine, Zhiqing and Yunxian you girls did a great job!)

#4: Well, initially we intended to use 4 steamboats for the night but due to multiple power trips we ended up only using 2 out of 4 haha!

#5: Did you know this is the 5th time that we are dressed in COLORS for the celebration?

#6: Last but not least, this is the 6th year that we are celebrating weareone together as oneRBKD.

I think every weareone celebration is special in its own way and this year’s is no exception. Thank you everyone for making 15 November every year extra meaningful.

It’s been a great year, here’s to a greater year ahead together as oneRBKD!

Jasmine, Priority Member:

It’s the time of the year again! Time flies by in a breeze and RBKD is already celebrating our 6th anniversary. As again, it was really more of the company rather then the food. It felt more like a heartwarming homecoming dinner.

Being able to part of RBKD for these past 4 years has been a great experience. Without a doubt, RBKD has sure grown to be stronger and wiser throughout the years. It is such a joy to be able to be part of this celebration. :)

Madeline, Priority Member:

This year’s weareone celebrations were particularly memorable for me, because I was able to ‘attend’ the gathering even though I wasn’t in Singapore.

We had our very own mini-gathering in Leeds, UK, concurrently while everyone else back in Singapore was enjoying their steamboat dinner. We had a great time catching up over lunch home-cooked by Lydia – the chicken rice we had was probably good enough to rival the food everyone was enjoying back home :P

We managed to video-call everyone back in Singapore and witness the cake cutting session, as well as RBKD’s traditional never-ending-ear-popping yum seng. It was also great seeing other overseas members from Australia and China on screen (videoception haha).

Really thankful to have been part of this year’s celebrations, and I had a great time meeting up with fellow RBKD members. Seeing all the familiar faces that day definitely made the long train rides all worth it :)

What: New Year Countdown to 2015

When: 31 December 2014

Where: Nee Soon South

Zhiqing, Priority Member:

It’s been more than a month since I last saw my fellow Rangels, and of course Rui En, and thus I was feeling pretty excited ever since early morning. As usual, we started queueing hours before the start of the countdown show, which commenced at 8pm. Since we had ample time before the commencement of the programmes, we bought some light snacks and had our mini picnic there. It was definitely a good catch-up session!

At 8pm, more people started to join in the crowd. There were many different types of performances, ranging from those by the Community Club, to performances by celebrities. Since the skit was rather entertaining and the songs were popular old school songs, they were definitely enjoyable and memorable for all.

At approximately 11.45pm, the moment that everyone has been anticipating has finally arrived! Just as Rui En was walking towards the stage, everyone screamed their lungs off, for we could no longer contain our excitement. Of course, we sang along as loudly as we could and waved to the beat. After the two songs,  ‘是谁’ and ‘麻木’, the whole atmosphere was hyped up and we were all ready to countdown to the new year with Rui En.

Even though I have been counting down to the new year with RBKD, and of course, Rui En, for the past three years, I must say that I still do cherish the opportunity to countdown with everyone as one big family and doing silly things together such as taking our last ‘wefie’ of 2014 and first ‘wefie’ of 2015. And here’s to many many more years of attending the countdown show together! :)

Junqi, Priority Member:

Second time counting down with RBKD and I’m so glad it’s at Katib HAHA :P

I guess it’s a very different experience when you are the videographer because you can’t really concentrate much on the performance while getting your job done. Kudos to the photographers and videographers for previous events – 辛苦了~

I really really like the live version of 麻木 HEH :D Everyone was so high after the clock struck twelve! Screaming, shouting and playing with the spray cans, but not forgetting to clear up before we leave.

It was a great night! Hope 2015 will be amazing for all :)

What: Christmas Wonderland @ Gardens by the Bay

When: 20 December 2014

Where: Gardens by the Bay

Participants: Allan, Ernie, Jaslin, Jiamin, Melissa, Phyllis, Xin Jie, Xinyi, Yeeling

Yeeling, Participant:

This is the first time I celebrated Christmas in the gardens with lot of people around, and also my first time celebrating with the fanclub. When we reached MBS, it was raining. Luckily after our dinner, the rain stopped so we could enjoy the lighting, performances and flowers, which were very beautiful, especially the scenery and songs with lighting.

It has been a fun Christmas as I celebrated it differently. Thank you organisers for the lovely Christmas present!

Xin Jie, Participant:

It was my first time attending a Christmas IPC with RBKD, or any festive related IPC as a matter of fact.

I guess, to me, what makes this IPC different from all the rest that I had attended so far would be the festive mood involved!!! Christmas is my favourite season of the year & I mad love all the Christmas lights/decorations! So when this IPC came & I could make it, I signed up.

We first started off with settling our dinner at the food court at MBS, which was rather crowded considering it was a weekend. Next, we made our way to the location, Gardens by the Bay!

I can remember us trying to take group photos together with the lightings, but it was sort of either us in the photos (can’t really see the lights) or either the lights as the focus in the photos (can’t really see us). And finally, we went to the area where all the Christmas lightings were, and waited for the show to began. SOOOO BEAUTIFUL!!!! Plus, Christmas songs were being blasted as the lights lit up and changed colours!!! (:

Next, we went to another area which was “snowing” with pretty lights. It was all muddy due to the rain. My shoes & feet ended up with some of the mud, but I guess experiencing “snowing” is a once in a lifetime experience in sunny Singapore. (:

It was really a great night out, quality time spent soaking in the Christmas atmosphere with the right company!
