What: Food Distribution @ Redhill 89
When: 17 October 2009
Where: Block 89 Redhill Close
—
Description:
On 17 October, RBKD accepted the invitation from Apex Club (Bukit Timah) to its weekly food distribution project at Block 89, Redhill Close for a better understanding of the program.
The 7 members ended up volunteering their services and got involved in the process of distribution and home deliveries. It was an eye-opener for members who have never seen one-room flats except on TV screens.
The most rewarding experience had to be the sight of the elderlies squatting at a corner of the void deck, happily munching on their freshly delivered fruits. That was certainly, priceless.
—
Jean, Participant:
Initially it was just a trip down to have a glimpse at how things were done but little did I expect that we ended up volunteering our services for the day. For me, the time spent to just help pack, distribute and send the food to the doorsteps of the old folk’s homes was definitely something refreshing for me.
Though interaction between the volunteers and old folks was lesser than what I have initially thought but nevertheless it was still a fruitful experience. This time round, it is just another way of helping the less fortunate by ensuring that they are able to have food at their table for every meal.

What: RBKD Study Group
When: Alternate Weeks from June to August 2009
Where: Level One Subway Marina Square
Organiser(s): RBKD
—
Zi Lei, Secondary One:
The study group is the first IPC that I’ve attended, and also, the first time I’ve met with some of the members of RBKD. I decided to join this IPC because I thought it was a good way to start knowing them.
It actually took me quite a while to decide whether to go because I didn’t know what I was going to say to them, because they were strangers to me after all.
Rather awkward, but when I requested for help on my math homework, they really tried to explain it to me. Some of them also greeted me warmly when they saw that I was new there.
My mum didn’t believe that I’d study in that ‘Subway environment’, but in fact I focussed quite well because all of them were studying hard and I can’t possibly start talking to them and distract them yeah.
And so, I’m glad that it’s organised as part of the IPC events :)
—
Kahyin, Secondary Three:
The first IPC that I had attended was the weekly study group. Because I am a person who is very difficult to concentrate at home, having this study group is a good way for me to study, even though I also could not really concentrate there as I will start chit-chatting. But it was still useful as I can clear my doubts on any questions that I do not understand from those “tutors”. I hope the study group will start once again.
—
Peifang, peer-tutor:
I have always found it awkward meeting people for the first time. Through study group, I had the opportunity to know other members and interact with them.
Besides, it allowed me to share my knowledge of certain subjects with the juniors. It is fun as we all learnt together. Everyone was focused during the session and we achieved our goals at the end of the day. :)

What: Da Vinci the Genius Exhibition
When: 10 August 2009
Where: Singapore Science Centre
Organiser(s): Lionel
—
Junyee, Participant:
Many people registered for the Da Vinci code IPC. However, upon arriving, there was only one person and the rest were absent. I felt disappointed as I could not know more people.
We headed towards the Singapore Science Center after that. As we enter the exhibition, I saw many machines and concepts which I do not understand at all! Thus, I asked Lionel to explain them to me. He did explained all of them one by one to me with loads of patience. I thought that he would find me irritating but from his actions, I think he did not..
He also told me a lot of things about the exhibition. He told me things like: as u walk, you can feel the Mona Lisa’s eye is following you, some mathematical concepts and some of the different versions of Mona Lisa painting
When I was a kid, I used to think that people who join fanclubs do not really have time to study. However after I joined RBKD, I realised that I was wrong! There are many knowledgeable people there and they really know a lot of things. From this trip, I’ve also learned a lot of other things other than the ones being exhibited.

It was a fun trip!! Everyone bought their own food (in this case, it was KFC!!). After settling down, we decided to start eating. As it was a period just before National Day, while we were eating, we saw the army helicopters flying past, out of which 2 had the SINGAPORE flag attached to them. And at that moment, we felt sense of pride.
We ate and chatted. It was a fun time, very enjoyable as we can take pictures too!! It was tremendous time spent together, bonding with one another. :)

What: Marina Barrage Captured on Camera!
When: 26 June 2009
Where: Marina Barrage
Organiser(s): Kite & Bee
—
Bee, Co-organiser:
Organizing “Marina Barrage Captured on Camera!” was really exciting, meeting together for a photography session, regardless of which equipment used (DSLR, compact camera or even handphone); whether you’re a hobbyist, newbie or just to join in the fun!
From capturing scenery to kids who were willing to be our unpaid models, we also played a few rounds of card games and had a ear-piercing session of “Heart Attack” under the scorching sun.
The activity was definitely fun, however it’s a pity that it ended before we could catch the NDP rehearsals later that night.
—
Jean, Particpant:
“Marina Barrage Captured on Camera!” was awesome though all of us practically ‘fried’ ourselves under the scorching hot sun as the day went by but thank goodness it wasn’t pouring as well if not the IPC would not have been enjoyable for all of us. We were also fortunate enough to have caught a glimpse of dragon boat racing. The scenery at Marina Barrage was breath-taking as we were able to catch sight of the Singapore Flyer and many more tall skyscrapers. Too bad none of us brought kites to fly as the weather was so good that many kites could be seen flying high up in the sky.
—
Phyllis, Participant:
Marina barrage phototaking IPC was certainly an interesting one.
I guess it was the one that most number of people turned up and I guess all of us had fun!
Though not all of us were there for photography, we all enjoyed each other’s company and it was very fun indeed.
The photgraphers had their fair share of fun by taking pictures and the rest also had an awesome time together.
I guess everyone enjoyed playing cheat and heart attack with the poker cards though the sun was very hot!
It was indeed a good experience for me and I think for everyone who went too!

What: Tennis on the Table, Ping Pong Piang!
When: 26 June 2009
Where: Tampines Sports Hall
Organiser(s): Corine

Corine, Organiser:
This is basically a gathering to bond fans, whether experienced or noob in table-tennis. All one need is just a pingpong ball and bat (which I will gladly lend) and one’s attendance. What is guaranteed is a day of sweating out and definitely FUN! The experienced ones had a game of war æ€-ing çƒ, smacking and whacking hard. Heavy casaulties with blue-blacks. (Oops! haha.) Futhermore, the newbies had their own FUN, “dancing” and playing with their own innovative newly self-created rules. Discover your hidden talent in this glorious sport that brought us medals in the Olympics. So let’s rock n roll now, Ping Pong Piang!

Xianli, Participant:
I personally like sports very much and do not like to play sports in a serious manner. So I’ve tried different kind of style to hit the ball and serve the ball to create laughter so that the atmosphere would not be that serious. haha. its like oh my god, i lost my image in front of them. hahaha. but its a way to open up yourself to them too. I almost went mad when we were playing. some of them can really play quite well.
This is my first time playing table tennis, although its just around a small table, but it can be quite challenging on how u control the bat that will affect the ball you are hitting. different people had different style, funny people had funny style, this creates laughter to smooth en the atmosphere too.
i had learn something by the end of the day. i had learned how to play table tennis properly with the rules taught by the others. See, u can learn how to play sports in RBKD too. hahaha.
—
Kahyin, Participant:
Table tennis game is another IPC which I like. Actually, I do not have any experience in playing table tennis before but because I love sports alot, I decided to attend and learn how to play.
I managed to learn some basic skills while playing but it was still quite horrendous because I am quite used to playing badminton. So we, the beginners, played until ping pong balls were flying all over the place because we used the Table-Badminton way of playing which I started. It was hilarious and I had lots of fun, even though it was quite tiring. I hope there will be another sport IPC !

What: Bowling @ Marina, IPC Activity
When: 27 June 2009
Where: SuperBowl (Marina Square)
Organiser(s): Xianli
—
Xian Li, Organiser:
Organizing the bowling trip was not troublesome at all. At first I thought there would only be a few people who will be interested in my trip. But I got more than 10 people attending. How surprising! At that time I know not much people in RBKD so when I saw the responses, I was a bit nervous, because it is going to be a big group of people attending my trip and I do not know the majority of them.
Naturally we had a mini competition. Cheering was heard when each of our team member was up on the “battlefield†and laughter was heard when people kept gutter. The whole bowling alley was RBKD voices. There was a video and photos were taken too. Capturing the fun we had. I am sure all of us had a great time, even the ones whom we met for the first time.
I did not regret organizing this trip because by the end of the day I have more friends in RBKD.
—
Kahyin, Participant:
The third IPC which I attended was the one on bowling at Marina. Well, because I’m quite new to bowling, it took me quite some time to decide whether to go. I find it quite mundane and difficult when I started to play as the ball keep moving sideway but after all the encouragement and trying, I enjoyed playing and had lots of fun. There were also a few of them who have funny and silly ways of playing.
After that, we headed for dinner and I had a nice time chatting with some of them and get to know them better. It was a good experience for myself as I get to try something new which I did not really tried before.

Xianli, 3D2N Participant, Singapore:
“Don’t forget her lyrics”, made me nervous and forgot her lyrics. We were grouped and we had a competition. Before the game start, some people actually lock themselves in a room doing “revision”. Look at how hardworking they were. Majority of us were dressed in pyjamas during the first night. Its was named “Pyjamas Night”. And we had photography session in pyjamas! The pose we all had was very funny, i even laughed out loudly while browsing through them.
Smoke! Fire! Charcoals! And foods! BBQ time! Yummy delicious foods were barbecued by some of us. It can be quite boring if you are eating alone, so why not make some friends!
I was shocked when I saw a familiar face with my naked eyes as that face is always virtually seen. And the funny thing is that i dreamt that Rui En will turn up and she really did. When a “rare flower” is seen, “bees” with photography skills were all attracted to it. Capturing the precious image of the rarely seen flower. We had talent time show, it was hilariously acted by our RBKD actresses. I shall comment, that night was the best part of the chalet.
In overall, the chalet worth my time. Not because Rui En turned up, but because I had new friends!

Miaoting, BBQ Participant, Singapore:
One of the most memorable events I’ve attended would be the RBKD Summer Chalet. As I was there only for the BBQ, I felt a little awkward when I first reached because there were many unfamiliar faces around and it was rather tough to strike up a conversation. However, in just that short span of four hours, I got to know many people from the fanclub and the barrier between these people and me were broken. I always thought that it is really amazing to know that a group of strangers could actually relate so well. I guess it’s the common interest in us that connected us all.
—
Kahyin, BBQ Participant, Singapore:
One of my favourite IPC was the BBQ. I wanted to attend both the chalet and BBQ as I really hope to know more friends but my parent only allowed me to go for the BBQ.
During the barbecuing, I still get to know some new friends and we had a great time chatting too. The food prepared were awesome, especially the pork chop. Of course, the appearance of Rui En really surprised me as I did not have any high hopes that she will be coming. It was really a fun, hilarious and surprising day and I’m looking forward to the next chalet which I hope I will be able to attend.

Lionel, PJs night Participant, Singapore:
11 June was a memorable night for RBKD. It was the first night of our Summer Chalet for the year. To say the truth, I was quite apprehensive when I reached the place. There are many people whom I do not know and as the only male at the chalet, it is just get awkward. Besides, it was only my second IPC in as many weeks!
Yet, all that nervousness and reservations were gone when we started our first activity of the night – Don’t forget her lyrics. (Who else but hers?) A total of 27 songs, compilation of both English and Chinese songs by our dearest idol. We are divided into four teams, and each team has to send 2 members each round. Most of us had a go at the game, and I personally do not fare very well in this session and had let my partner down. It was embarrassing, and a new member has no excuses for not knowing the songs. The interesting part of this session will have to go to a certain prominent member who gladly performed for us the song ‘Qing Wa’, which comes complete with our idol’s dance moves, waving for the camera and us laughing out loud. Microphone was included as well, in the form of a bottle.
After the game, it was finally time for the long awaited (or dreaded) pyjamas night. Everyone donned their pyjamas for photo-taking posing for the camera. Different shots were taken, with each member contributing their own quirky ideas for the photo shoot. Thanks (or no thanks) to the H1N1 scare, we have facial mask around and they were put to good use (other than covering the nose and mouth) for the photo! Crazy, scary and nonsensical are some of the words which you can use to describe the pictures taken!
When the hype dies down, we started to have a truth or dare session with all the participants. We had lots of fun, with just a spinning marker pen placed on the floor, deciding whose turn is it to share their unknown trivia or dare the daredevil. We have interesting ‘dares’ like kiss someone, kiss the door knob and reacting of a drama scene! And of course, we have the truth questions like ‘What would you do if you only have a day to live?’ and unthinkable questions like ‘how would you propose to our idol Rui En?’
Alas, all good things come to an end, and we need rest, so as to get ready for more fun on the second day – the BBQ night. Unfortunately for me, I was unable to stay on as I have to work and thus missed the BBQ. It was indeed a fun and memorable experience for me! I couldn’t ask for more. (I can ask, but I shall be contended with just this). And this is only the 1st RBKD chalet for me. I believe there are more great events to come, and to all new members who are apprehensive about joining without knowing anyone here – I joined the club alone, and now, I am no longer a stranger in the club.

Well, we can’t imagine that either; so we didn’t imagine, we decided to just do it.
No forfeit, no incentives, but look who’s in PJs???

It was a distant 4 months ago when RBKD called that little double-storey, 4 bedrooms chalet our clubhouse for 3D2N. RBKD’s very first Club Chalet.
We began with a round of self-introduction, adopting the “Name + 3 things about myself” format. Facts like how much we love Rui En were of course, barred.
Up next was the “Don’t Forget HER Lyrics”. Rather impromptu I would say, but I have no doubt we walked out of the session remembering some of her trickier lyrics for life.
Concluding the day was the much anticipated and feared “PJs night“.
Yawns… It was horrifying to wake up to stares and discussions (about us!) as though we were the newest exhibits in museum. But well, we were the ones who abandoned our bedroom for this floor mat in the living room.
Rise and shine and the whole day was Free & Easy for everyone. Some of them basked in the nice sunlight by cycling along the beach, while others basked in the happiness of re-re-re-rewatching Rui En’s dramas off their laptop screens.
For the two “zombie” organisers, it was the most exciting power nap ever as they slept in the same room with roof-tearing “Heart Attack!!!” louder than our Public Warning System.
And what do you hate and fear most when you have an outdoor BBQ? Rain? You got it, or should I say, we got it. A picture speaks a thousand words, and this is how we set up our BBQ fire in the rain.
Thank goodness the è€å¤© finally stopped crying (飞旋: 我喜欢下雨天 把烦æ¼æ”¾ä¸€è¾¹ 幻想è€å¤©æ‰åˆšå¤±æ‹).
The night was then filled with smoke, food and laughters. A couple of them decided to play “The Girls Who Cried Rui En” (latest sequel to “The Boy Who Cried Wolf”); no one there except myself, knew that Rui En was indeed coming.
After countless “RUI ENNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ‘s President! *giggles*”, guess the look on everyone’s shocked faces when they did “RUI ENNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” and Rui En really appeared. Surprise!
The day ended with our usual laugh-until-you-dont-have-to-do-crunches-anymore JN & XK Show.
Who said that she doesn’t smile/laugh? Not us =)
Opps. I forgot about Rui En’s è¦æœ‰åˆ†å¯¸ speech!
The sun rises again and its time to say goodbye. But not before we were made to pay 50bucks for the excess electricity usage. Can you blame us for blasting the Air-Con when it’s the 37°C Summer? We don’t have Love@0°C you know? =P
Last but not least, a little unbelievable but, RBKD’s very first Club Photo in COLORS!!!
Your President is signing off =)
