9 of us went to the Istana on Labour Day not really sure what to expect because to the majority, it was our very first trip. At the Istana, a rather ‘friendly’ tree caught our attention. Why friendly, because it was just right the height for us to try climbing. Not too threatening (just enough for a tinge of excitement) and stable enough for 6 :)
Spent 2 hours chatting at a grass field and we witnessed the handover of guard duties at the entrance of the Istana. Had a group photo with the guards and our very own SG crest before we went off for Part 2 of the outing – steamboat buffet for dinner!
For the record, the 9 of us used 15.5 pairs of chopsticks because everyone (esp Jiamin) kept on dropping chopsticks. Whenever we needed a clean pair, we will conveniently pick one up from the table behind and what we soon realize was that there were 8 sets of utensils (WITHOUT chopsticks) on that table. Oh yes, we (Jiamin, Vyvyan, Alberton, Phyllis and me) had 9 plates of dong fen! Buffet restaurants must really really love people like us man!
Isn’t it nice to actually find a group of people that likes the same thing, and of all things, dongfen? So often we hang out with certain group of people so regularly but it is only when we sit down and do something so simple like satisfying out needy tummy that we find out such things. Mundane stuff, but we can feel strangely happy just eating that.

Definitely my first time entering the Istana legally. First thought that came into my mind, is it because the place is opened 5 times a year or is it because they really maintain the place really really well. So well that the grass in Istana seems to be the greenest grass I have ever seen in Singapore, till date of course. Haha! The trees seems different too. Maybe because it is Istanaaaaa~.
Climbing a tree in Istana? Definitely “Jiazhen-inspired”. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! She had safety ropes/cables and goggles while we only had our bare hands and legs to bring ourselves up the tree. I admit, the tree wasn’t that tall but being our first time climbing a tree, not to mention a tree in Istana, definitely something fun to do. We were still joking about accidentally breaking the branch of the tree and appearing on the newspaper headlines the next day. Tree climbing was fun, “chasing” after the guards was fun as well for it seems like we were chasing after someone. Why did we chase after the guards? We wanted to see the process of them “changing duties”. Took group photos with the guards and the gate and off we went for food!!!
Steamboat buffet at Bugis was nice because there is food! As long as there is food, I am happy:) Our table was fishballs, meat and “bamboos” while the table beside us was cellophane noodles, cellophane noodles and moreeeeeee cellophane noodles. HAHAHA! When they mean plates of cellophane noodles, it isn’t really the case. What I saw was a mountain of cellophane noodles on some of the plates. We kept dropping our chopsticks till we kept taking chopsticks from the table behind us. Before we left the place, we have already cleared the table behind us of all the chopsticks. Great company and still-can-make-it food! Did I mention, going home was fun as well, Bishan-yooooo~ HAHAHAHA!
P/S I survived the whole day with just 35 cents in my wallet:) Haha!

Jiazhen-inspired?

30 April was not the best day to volunteer; personal commitments and an evening gathering with Rui En meant that we could hardly spare time. But gut feeling tells me that they did not have sufficient volunteers so we decided we should go. Just as well since we have been contemplating with volunteering our time to express our gratitude for Rui En’s Best Actress win on 24 April. So this was a chance.
Goodness. We had visited many one-room flats across various estates but never one as packed as this. The uncle had kept so many “treasures†that we could not even see the flooring! The stuff we cleared from the living room alone could easily fill the whole corridor (or maybe two), no joke. And the fridge was so dirty I think that would be the last place we will want to keep any food in.
Due to other commitments, we had to leave in the afternoon, we only managed to clear the living room and scrub the dirty fridge; luckily, other volunteers started to stream in after 2pm. However, we left our hearts there.
Thankfully, Apex took photos and shared with us, so here’s some to share with you too. Look at the thick layer of dust on our fingers O.O

Touch on his “treasures” and dust is what you get on your fingers!

I think no one can forget how excited/ crazy/ bonkers we were on that day. Its nothing else beside screaming screaming and more screaming. The feeling is just SO different when we were all there for the same reason.
The very moment we saw her face on the screen for the most crucial award, the thrill inside us can never be describable.
Dazed is the word.

“HOT!” is the best to describe the whole red carpet. Why? Because we managed to see HOT stars (especially RUI EN!!!) at that super-HOT place! Throughout the whole live telecast of the red carpet, you can see us all holding boards and shouting our lungs out for Rui En but actually, we were all suffering there! Covered with sweat from our head to our hands! And holding the super big R-U-I-E-N board was so so tiring at that place! But even so, we were still enjoying ourselves there!! :DD Because that’s RBKD! Fun in midst of everything we do! The shoulder ache and sweat were thus worth it because all the boards were seen so clearly and neatly on tv!!
—
Miaoting, Priority Member:
As we complain about the warm weather, we willingly stand inside a humid carpark for two hours. As we try our best to make sure we are clearly seen on screen (the boards), we try as hard to hide ourselves from the TV (our faces). That’s us – strange, some call us crazy, often confused – but yet absolutely clear about what we are doing all these for.
“Red Carpet” truly sounded like a super-glamorous event when it was being constantly advertised on TV for weeks following up to the actual event. But behind those scenes, for those ‘behind the stars’, it was 2 hours of sweat, muscle aches, anticipation, screaming and more. A good warm-up to the actual event of the day where we shake RWS with our powerful screams, together as one with RBKD.

“Yang Xiao Dong! Yang Xiao Dong! Yang Xiao Dong!â€
That’s our battle cry for the Stars Awards Show 1, where our dearest idol has two nominations, one of which is for the Favourite Female Character, Yang Xiao Dong in the drama serial Happy Family.
It being my first time to Mediacorp Studios, it was really an eye opener to a ‘skuaku’ (read country bumpkin) like me. Apart from being ‘surprised’ about the long walk to Caldecott Hill, I am surprised at how the whole show was being broadcasted and screened on national television. I have never seen so many stars before (except when I looked up at the night sky of Pulau Ubin. Then again, we are talking about different stars here.) Of course, the brightest star whom we are all looking out for has to be Rui En, the reason why we (RBKD) exist.
As the show progresses, when awards were given after awards, we start to feel really anxious about whether our devotion to online nomination for Rui En was sufficient. The time ticked by, getting nearer and nearer, and our fans starts to post on facebook and twitter calling and urging people who hasn’t voted to go online and do so to make our votes count and do our last for Rui En.
And finally, it’s time for the winner to be announced for the Favourite Female Character. Heartbeats raced, fist clenched, anxious of the results, and yet nervous about what would the outcome be. Will our efforts be vindicated? Will it be recognised?
When the presenter Chen Hanwei called for his ‘wife’, we were all delirious! Everyone went crazy and kept cheering, waving the billboards we brought along, showing off the prized possession – Happy Family Poster and screaming our lungs out! Finally, the time has come, for everyone of us to know that our hardwork has finally paid off and we managed to secure what we wanted for her, and recorded a breakthrough to be pen down in the history books of RBKD. (Only to be surpassed by another equally dazzling record in Show 2 – where we would see stars both figuratively and literally)

What: I-Weekly 30th Anniversary Event
When: 27th March 2011
Where: NEX (Serangoon)
Participant(s): Jean, Jiamin, and Xinyi

Jiamin, Secretary:
On day 2 of the event, Jean, Xinyi and I made a trip down to NEX hoping to collect more buns and sardines (the more the merrier since it is for good cause:D) We stood around for an hour at a corner and were really glad to see the public approaching us upon seeing our boxes and donating the items. The in-charge for the event noticed us and even offered us a carton of drinks! Unfortunately, we cannot accept it as it is not suitable for the elderly.
In the end, we managed to donate a total of 81 pieces of bread rolls and 81 cans of sardines to the Bishan Home.
This is not the first time we are doing charity but i always feel heartened that we are able to contribute to society in a way or another and delighted to see the happy faces of the elderly.
—
Xinyi, President:
I was pretty amused when I logged our donations in their booklet. The caretaker was complaining when I put “NA” for our address and contact, “No address again. Last time you all came to donate something before too right? Also no address. We have our reasons to ask for the address….” And so he continues. Like obedient students nagged by the teacher, we penned down our address eventually. Although we did not expect anything in return, receiving a letter of appreciation addressed to RBKD always seems to be especially encouraging. Keep it up everyone :)

RBKD was at NEX to purchase the stickmen tote bag designed by Rui En for the i-weekly 30th anniversary. It was a simple but creative design. As usual, we queued up very early and were the first in the queue again – the ethos of RBKD. Part of the proceeds went to the earthquake relief efforts in Japan. The buns and sardines in the tote bags were also collected voluntarily by us and donated to a charity home.
What came as a surprise was when the black official fan tee was unveiled by our FC President during the group photo taking. The long hours of waiting was worthwhile as all of us did something meaningful for charity. And needless to say, everyone was elated by just simply looking at our idol on the cover page of i-weekly #700 and reading about her story.

What: Photoshoot for RBKD tee
When: 26th March 2011
Where: Marina Barrage
Participant(s): Jean, Jiamin, Shirley and Xinyi

Jean, Priority Member:
When Xinyi first approached me for the photoshoot, I was hesitating but I thought since is for the club, why not. At the end of the day, it wasn’t me who took the photo so I was really relieved actually. I felt that I “bonded” with the grass in Marina Barrage so much, I can forget about my slippers whenever I am there in the future:) Haha! Though the grass at Marina Barrage isn’t the greenest in Singapore (after seeing the grass in Istana), it was still greener than the usual ones you see along the roads or other parks. So much sunshine there, how can it not be greener right? Hahaha!
The initial plan was just having the tees in the photo and due to the strong wind, we had to take out whatever that was thin and flat to place it under the tee to ensure that it doesn’t “move”. Cellphones, cardless wallet and a U-Weekly magazine. That was the things that can be found underneath the tee. Haha! We tried to do another style of shooting the tees and that was star jumping in it. Did I mention, when the three of us were doing star jumps on the grass, it was super funny since it was really hard to “synchronize” together. We were trying to concentrate on “synchronizing” on the star jumps that our faces was really serious before jumping. Haha! Need to concentrate on so many “things” that we forgotten what to do sometimes so what we did in the end, jumping non-stop. Hahaha!
Things to remember during the star jumps:
1. “Synchronize” the jumps ( Jump together~)
2. Look and smile at the camera
3. Hands up in the air
4. Ensure the space between the three of us are equal
That was what was going through my mind during the jumps. Haha!
We tried another style of shooting the tee on us and that was us sitting down on the grass but it wasn’t really a good thing since the bottom half of the tee was covered. While Xinyi was doing something to the camera, I tried to do my sit-and-reach. Not bad, at least I still can touch my toes, still quite flexible. Haha!
After that, we changed to another style of shooting the tee and that was us lying down on the grass. I can’t remember how long we lied down on the grass for all I can remember is that I was laughing all the way. HAHAHAHA! I can’t stop laughing and I don’t know why~ We were suppose to be relaxing and naturally smiling into the sky, with our eyes closed/opened (More or less forgotten). Reason why? Laughing too much. HAHAHA! I would not say I never tried to do the above mentioned but I really did try and I started laughing even harder. HAHAHAHA! I did try to control though. Haha! It was definitely a bad idea to let my arms be at the bottom of theirs since when I laugh, my arms starting “shaking”. “Chain reaction” I guess, Jiamin and Shirley started shaking and laughing at the same time? I think… Haha! I really didn’t mean to cause all of us to lie on the grass longer but it was just really funny. At least at the end of it, we managed to have a photo for the tee:)

Hi,

It keeps fans (RBKD members and non-members) constantly updated about news on Rui En. ‘Good job’ or ‘Impressive’ is definitely an understatement. Thank you :) By the way, I was watching SA show 1 & 2 and your lung power really amazed me ha ha :D Really admire you guys for all that you have done for Rui En…Jia you! :)
