What: L’Oreal Paris Youth Code Boosting Essence Road Show

When: 15 June 2013

Where: Compass Point Atrium

Lionel, Priority Member:

We reached Compass Point early to ensure good viewing angles of the front area. The event consists of a few activities and games that requires participation from the audience.

As one of the few males at the event area, I had the great fortune of participating in the first segment – verification of youth code’s claim – Boost Your Skin’s Absorption Power. The host requested for 3 members of the public, and after having 2 females, Rui En decided that a male volunteer would be good. Without hesitation, I raised my hand (unabashedly and in a rather ‘kiasu’ manner).

The highlight was that our idol would apply the Boosting Essence for us! (0.0) While I am eager to meet up with Rui En close up, I was both nervous and shy at the same time that she will be applying the Boosting Essence for me. Probably no words can fully express what I felt at that time, even an ‘excellent’ or ‘excited’ is truly an understatement. I was basically grinning for the rest of the day, even when I reached home! just like =D

Thank you Rui En for choosing me to participate!

Yvonne Lim, Ordinary Member:

Believe it or not, 15th June was actually the first time I stepped into Compass Point. And as it wasn’t 5pm yet, we started our small talks and “mini game” to kill time. The group of us played “Text Solitaire” the Chinese version which was quite a challenging and brain cells killing game. Time flies while we were chatting and playing away; it was also at this moment that we started to feel warm and the surrounding was much noisier.

Hence out of curiosity, I turned around and was shocked to see the number of people behind. The crowd was spread across 4 levels of the mall. Rui En once said that she was afraid that no one would turn up for her appearance when she first started out; but look at the crowd that day; we (including the huge crowd) were all there solely for her!! I am really honored to be given a chance to be a Rangel, to be her fans.

During the roadshow, one group of us actually “sabo” Yanling so she would have to go on stage to “read out” the advertisement slogan (one of the stage activities). Yanling quick-wittedly amended the slogan which I thought greatly conveyed the message to her – 因为她值得拥有.

Really enjoyed the time spent with Rangels and also that we get to see lots of her cute expressions throughout the event.

My name is …. and I am ….

My name is Sandra and I am a Year 2 student of Temasek Polytechnic.

Me and RBKD:

I joined RBKD in 2011 and here I have learnt how to converse fluently in Mandarin albeit all the laughters at my errors (but it’s quite funny to me too).

1) Memorable and unforgettable moment(s) in RBKD was …….

The weareone: Our Third Chapter Chalet!
Because it’s my first weareone!

2) I have learnt in RBKD that……..

Every drop makes an ocean.

3) My favourite IPC is …… because …….

“Everything under the sun @ Sentosa”

Though there were only 5 attendees, we had a lot of fun! The small turnout made it easier for us to look out for one another and, being quite new to everyone at that point of time, it felt more comfortable speaking up! :)

4) This is my favourite photo(s) taken in RBKD because …..

Everyone looks genuinely happy!

5) I hope to go for an IPC in future that is ……

TERRIFYING. Like maybe ………………… BUNGEE JUMPING.

6) Words/pic to share with RBKD:

“No matter what one has done to your heart, keep them in your prayer list.” – My Grandma

What: Bonding @ Woodlands Waterfront

When: 2 June 2013

Where: Woodlands Waterfront

Participant(s): Elaine, Enrica, Eunice Zee, Jasmine, Jean, Jiamin, Joey, Kamin, Pei Jun, Shannon and Shirley

Jasmine, Organizer:

Being an organizer for any kind of activity is never easy, but all the blood, sweat, tears (okay maybe not haha) and brain cells put in to plan is definitely worth it when you see those smiles on the happy faces accompanied by endless laughter throughout!

My original plan was to just have some bonding activities along with some sunshine and breeze but…… it started to pour really heavily moments after we reached. The shelter was really small to fit all of us and rain was splashing in on us like we were in Wild Wild Wet. But what really warmed me was the spirit that everyone had towards the unexpected pour. We took out our umbrellas and “shield” each other from the rain. A really heartwarming sight.

The scorching hot sun was soon out again and we had a series of bonding activities which I had improvised them myself and I am very glad everyone was willing to give it a try and enjoyed themselves :)

Thereafter was a mini photography session with the beautiful sunset followed by dinner and a debrief session, concluding the end of our day.

A big thank you to my ATL/co-organizer Elaine, for all the help and brain cells spent in organizing this IPC and everyone who made an effort to attend this and making it yet another memorable memory for all of us in RBKD! :)

YEA!

Joey Ho, Participant:

This is the second IPC I have attended and, frankly, I had no idea what to expect. Being someone who takes time to warm up, I expected to feel very awkward, but not so. The general hype and jovial characters of the others who were there really lightened the mood and tugged a smile on my face way earlier than I usually begin to when meeting new people. The camaraderie between the members was really poignant and allowed us to have great fun.

RBKD members in general have a very good sense of humour, and really eased the awkwardness of the atmosphere. With so many amusing people present, it is impossible to feel awkward, and it took no time at all for everyone to warm up and start the activities. The games had all of us doubled over with laughter, especially at the antics of several members.

Tragically, it rained, and the shelter we were under was sadly insufficient to shelter us, especially since the wind was blowing in the direction of the shelter. To be honest, the antics we got up to while trying to stay dry was one of the highlights of the day.

The finale of the day, the photo-taking session at the jetty, was picturesque. We had excellent fun taking shots of different poses.

Generally, the day was full of laughter. Laughter is good medicine for the soul, and my soul definitely received a good, strong and healthy dose.

Lim Ka Min, Participant:

It was my first time going for an IPC and yes, I have no idea which spot exactly to meet the organizers, how they look like, how could I recognize from the mountains and seas of people. “I am such an introvert, will it be awkward? Will anyone talk to me? What if they think that I am such a snobbish person if I don’t smile and talk? What if …..” Such thoughts streamed into my mind before the meet up.

I am pretty sure some of us would have experienced this before, in some parts of our life when we join new events/gatherings as a first-timer. That was when helplessness sets in and when you have no idea who you would be meeting for the first time Despite the not very pleasant thoughts that ran through my mind before the meet up, what happened after that was a totally different and amazing experience.

Everyone present were spontaneous, enthusiastic, understanding, helpful, bubbly, hyper, excited, amusing, FUNtastic and the list just goes on. These were the qualities that really made this IPC so memorable and different.

I have never expected an introvert like me, whom takes a week to open up to new people, to actually talk to people so easily within minutes. That’s how amazing it was! Touch my heart, I really enjoyed this IPC because I have learnt new things, made friends that never fails to make me laugh and yes, sometimes all it takes is someone’s effort to crack a joke and the atmosphere lightens.

The big big rain that ‘attacked’ us was one significant part of this IPC that left a great impact on me. It was the horrendous rain that disrupted the original plan, yet it was the rain that brought all of us close together. Indeed, as much as I dislike being drenched and wet, it was “being in this together whereby everyone is stuck in this with you that makes this experience unique.”

” Everyone is suffering together with you and yes ( – fist punches to chest and points – ) ” I feel you, you are not alone. ”

Perhaps this is how people connect and form bonds.

Thank you so much organizers for planning this IPC for newbies like us and certainly, you all have done a great job!  -A round of applause please- Looking forward for the next IPC because there will be more friendships forged and more hearts connected as one.

As we form new friendship in this journey we are all into, may our friendship blossom ” Because you are worth it. ( 因为你值得拥有) ”

What: L’Oreal Paris Youth Code Boosting Essence Road Show

When: 1 June 2013

Where: Ngee Ann City’s Watsons

Bi Hui, Priority Member:

It wasn’t that packed at first as I’ve reached earlier but the crowd soon gathers that I could barely breathe!

It took quite awhile for the “Main Character” to walk on to the stage, and before you knew it, you could see tons of hands raising with phones, cameras and video recordings turned on, spamming flashes and snapping sounds from DSLRs and of course, our SUPER loud cheering. HAHA!

To me, it was quite an memorable experience as this is the first time I’ve participated in such endorsement event, what’s more, from Rui En *shy* Not forgetting that we’ve also “cared” for the other Rangels behind asking whether they could see her.

Though I could only see her through a small “hole” left by the people in front of me as they were too tall, those little facial expressions you don’t always see from her on-screen that made us all laugh like crazy, really brightens up my day.

Melissa, Ordinary Member:

It was my first time attending an event like this as I don’t like crowds and usually avoid this particular mall on Saturdays altogether. However this time, I attended, for her and of course to see my fellow Rangels.

Shortly after I arrived, members of the public started arriving too. In the blink of an eye, the entire area outside of Watsons was packed! After what seemed like eternity of waiting, she finally arrived! The wait was definitely worth it as she arrived glowing and looking so ethereal.

During the event, she kept all of us entertained with all her little gestures, her waves, and her smiles. Honestly speaking I did not pay much attention to the host the entire time because I was just in awe. The only thing I heard from the host was when she commented to Rui En that “You’re really pretty, do you know that?”

All in all, I really enjoyed the event. I enjoyed seeing Rangels working together to “guard” the space of our videographer and photographer so everyone would get to enjoy the event somehow. I enjoyed shouting for her, especially at the part where she was leaving and it was spontaneously brought up that we should shout “瑞恩, 你值得拥有” And just like that in a split second, RBKD made it happen. The teamwork was simply heart-warming.

Needless to say, I will definitely attend the next event with RBKD!

What: Night Photography @ Marina

When: 31 May 2013

Where: Marina

Participant(s): Enrica, Jasmine, Jean, Joey, Junqi, Kelly, Madeline, Melissa, Peijun, Phyllis, Yanjun, Yanping, Yeeling, Yingmei, Zhiqing

Junqi, Madeline, Phyllis and Yingmei, Organizing Committee of Orientation 2013:

Night sky line, Cool breeze, Bright flash lights…..

Well, it certainly doesn’t sound like what one would expect from a RBKD IPC!

That’s because this is one of the rare few IPCs that is held at night :)

Our first stop after dinner was the roof at Esplanade, where we caught a glimpse of the MBS laser show and had our 3 + 1 introduction! This 3 + 1 experience was one of the more interesting ones that we have experienced in RBKD. How often, do you get to gather at a roof top and have 3 + 1 in the dark with participants having to shine light at the one who is doing the intro? Hahaha.

After our introduction session we decided to take a walk from Esplanade all the way to Marina Bay Sands to catch the light show at the concourse. On our way to MBS, we stopped along Helix Bridge to snap a few group photos! Well since it was at night, the use of flash was inevitable but after every photo snapped all of our eyes became…. *.* oh my~ Thankfully we arrived just in time for the second and last light show of the night after our 1 hour stroll.

The IPC ended with us having a good talk while walking back to the MRT station from MBS … What a good way to end off our Friday.

Well come to think of it, actually we think it would be great if there’s more IPCs that can be held at night! We are eagerly waiting for the next one!

Yanjun, Participant:

The sudden downpour before the IPC did not dampen our mood for the MBS light show. Doing 3 plus 1 introduction in the dark and using the phone to create spotlight so that everyone’s faces could be seen, it was different from the usually more serious introduction settings. The creation of the spotlight somehow helped to spark off some interactions and laughter among us.

To get the best view of the light show, we walked from esplanade to bayfront and ended up catching the 9pm light show. Despite it being quite a distance, I believe everyone had fun from the interactions en route there. Having watched the light show from a less ideal location during one of my night runs, this was the first time I watched it from the best view and capturing those beautiful moments.

It’s a completely different experience. Even though the duration of the light show was only 13 minutes, it feels good to be able to gather together to enjoy the light show and night scenery after a long day of school/work/idling despite the ‘seats’ being wet.

Lastly, I would like to thank the organizing committee for taking the time and effort to organize this pre-orientation IPC :)

Me and RBKD:

I joined RBKD in March 2009 but I did not go for any IPCs until much later (shy lah). My first IPC was a cycling IPC at Pasir Ris Park. From then on, I’ve always looked forward to participating in more cycling IPCs :D

1) Memorable and unforgettable moment(s) in RBKD was …….

COUNTDOWN PARTIES!

Previously, I have never attended any countdown parties before. So now, I’m really glad to be able to spend the last day of every year screaming and shouting crazily with RBKD :D and and, I like the human dragon/train that would be formed after the party! What a happy way to start a new year (:

2) I have learnt in RBKD that……..

We should always find joy in what we’re doing and have fun together. However, there are times when we should be serious and work TOGETHER to achieve our goals.

3) My favourite IPC is …… because …….

Pulau Ubin Hike and Bike.

because ……. I LIKE CYCLING DOWN THE SLOPES IN PULAU UBIN! It was a thrilling IPC for me! 有一种在冒险的感觉 :D

4) This is my favourite photo(s) taken in RBKD because …..

5) I hope to go for an IPC in future that is ……

Allows us to eat, take photos, chat and laugh! (probably a picnic or buffet?)

6) Words/pic to share with RBKD:

What: Star Awards 2013 Ceremony 2

When: 28 April 2013

Where: Marina Bay Sands

Participant(s): Bengyan, Gloria, è‹—, Jean, Jiamin, Joanne, Junqi, May Yen, Phyllis, Ser Chee, Shirley, Squeen, Weijen, Xinyi

Gloria, Ordinary Member (China Member):

Jean, Priority Member:

From Red Carpet to Show Two Ceremony was a mad rush. But luckily we managed to reach the venue early and we also managed to catch the preview of The Dream Makers :) Rangels were separated from each other this time round but… At least our presence was “felt” and heard :)

Thanks to May Yen, we had bottles of honey & aloe vera drink and almond fig tea but somehow amidst the mad rush from venue to venue, I brought the whole bag with me :P Hahahaha! The drinks helped us survive through the show:)

Being able to have the chance to scream for her each time is actually something I look forward to and it realllllly felt like ages since I last did it :P

I guess we all got really nervous when it was time for the prize presentation of the Best Actress award. When her name (“瑞恩小姐”) was announced, I am sure all of us were just really happy, like really really really happy:)

The happiest moment has definitely got to be her holding the Best Actress award on stage:)
Her win for best actress was sweet.
Her win for best actress with the role of Hu Xiaoman made it even sweeter.

Like any other events, it all started with queuing :) From eating breakfast on the ground to sitting on poles munching and chatting away. Hahahaha! Photo as proof :)

Down to work on the boards for the China fans after lunch, my most feared Chinese characters…. Doing it without a table was back-breaking and I really did thought of just lying completely flat on the ground to do it :P But wearing the t-shirt with the words “RBKD” on it, 还是不要比较好.. Hahahaha! Thank goodness for the help from May Yen, Joanne and Xin Yi, at least one board was completed :)

During the Red Carpet, the boards basically became the backdrop. Hahaha! As cameras were rolling everywhere, allllll~ the time, plus the fact that we were right behind the hosts.

I really wish to express my thanks to Elvinology :) Hahaha! They were beside us during Red Carpet and they offered us food, even though in the end I ate up most of it. HAHAHAHA! :P

Ser Chee, Priority Member:

This year, Rangels took shift to queue overnight and indeed, our efforts weren’t wasted. We managed to get a strategic position. We were basically the backdrop of most of the media photos in the core interview area. To be honest, the feeling of seeing our boards dominating behind in the photos was quite good :p

The need to catch the camera, while trying to hide our faces, handling random pushes from behind, while still having to cheer, I believe all these required some skills too. Hahaha.. But well, I believe Rangels did it well, for we were heard and seen. Good job Rangels!

I have enjoyed myself, I believe those who were there enjoyed themselves too. And this time round, we have both China and Malaysia fans with us, which makes everything more special.

With our shy China fans behind the board.

What: Buffet Dinner

When: 27 April 2013

Where: Riverview Hotel’s Irodori Japanese Restaurant

Participant(s): Bengyan, Corine, Jean, Joanne Chong, Jolie, Lionel, May Yen, Ming, Phyllis, Ser Chee, Shirley, Squeen, Weijen, Xinyi

Lionel, Participant:

Our two overseas members (Squeen and Weijen) joined us for this dinner! A small cozy room for the 14 of us, we sure made lots of noise and ate lots of food during the 4 hours dinner.

To me, it was a kind of an old friend gathering, since the last time I saw Squeen and Corine was about 3 years ago and despite not seeing each other for a long time, nothing seems to have really changed. Kudos to friendship!

Tempuras and handrolls were the starters for the day, and sashimi were constantly brought in to fill up our hungry stomach. It was 4 hours of quantity (not really quality) food, and 4 hours of laughter and light-hearted moments.

Thank you organisers for arranging the meet-up!

Weijen, Participant (Malaysian Member):

Attending this dinner was one of the most anticipating nights in my 4-days trip to Singapore because spending time with Rangels, well the feeling is simply amazing, just like having a dinner with family members. Sweet and heartwarming. =)

Last year we had dinner at this same place and having witnessed how gigantic Jean was in terms of her food portion, I thought I would get used to this sight of her eating non-stop but I was still left amazed by the very same fact :o :o :o Yeah she is a bottomless pit in terms of food. With Corine, Jean has met her 最火搭档 in terms of food and language :D

Peals of laughter permeated through our dinner as we shared jokes and caught up with each other while enjoying the buffet dinner, sounds delightful huh? It was that delightful and I am so glad that, our pres initiated this so that we can just spend time with each other: Ming, Ser Chee, Bengyan, Phyllis, Xinyi, Jean, Lionel, Shirley, Sherwin, Corine, Joan, Joanne, Jolie…I try to remember all the names and faces because we do not meet each other often.

This is precious for an overseas Rangel like me, because I think it is these moments that define us as who we are, RBKD. <3

What: Bumping into Rui En at Changi Airport

When: 26 April 2013

Where: Changi Airport

Weijen, Priority Member (Malaysian Member):

Yes people, don’t ever doubt this. To bump into her at the airport on touching down from Penang, the feeling is like striking a lottery! Especially so if you are an overseas Rangel and this is the best thing that you could ever dream of, isn’t it??

It.is.just.like.a.dream :o

I was due to touch down at 1:20pm and my fellow Rangels: Joanne and Jolie, who have already been at the airport waiting for my arrival, got the news around 12pm that “The Dream Makers” was filming at the airport.

Anyway, when I arrived, I met up with them, then immediately they hurried me to another terminal. I was in a daze, I didn’t know what was happening because I was still settling down. I just heard something about filming and so I thought Joanne was bringing me to the terminal where Rui En had previously filmed for other dramas.

Oh my god there she is!! She was busy filming and we stayed on for around an hour before we approached her personally. But here is the issue, all of us were very shy and we discussed for quite some time before deciding who should make the first step haha. She was in a rush, but she still took a minute or two to have a picture with us.

Then I passed her some 土产 from Penang and she kept saying 谢谢,谢谢你们。It was so sweet and 26 April must be my luckiest day. :D
