I refer to the recent media reports regarding my involvement in the incident that took place on 12 Apr 2016.

There are various interpretations as to the conversation that took place between the motorcycle owner and myself. To address the context of that conversation, I would like to share what I can without causing any
interference to the ongoing investigation.

Tuesday, 12 Apr 2016. I was about to reach home. Upon driving into the open-air car park where I usually park, I misjudged a turn and accidentally knocked over a stationary motorcycle parked directly in front of a kerb. No other driver was involved during the incident.

I was very disappointed with myself for knocking down the motorcycle. My initial intention was to move my car to a traffic-free spot before addressing the matter.

I was subsequently stopped by a man. He continuously knocked on my car window while I was attempting to move my car. I later discovered that the man was the owner of the motorcycle.

I tried to signal to him to allow me to move my car first but he persistently hit my screen and gradually, his knocks got louder.

I got out of my car. I attempted to explain that I would take full responsibility. He probably had the impression that I looked like someone that would run away from the scene.

In my state of anxiety, I told him “Do you know who I am, I live upstairs and won’t run”

He appeared to be very angry. I was unsure what I said came out sounding entirely different from what I meant. I was simply trying to convey that I live here, people would know and recognise me if I ran away. On hindsight, my choice of words used were inappropriate and I agree that it
caused unnecessary misunderstandings.

What was said next was a process similar to most traffic incidents.

I offered to compensate for the damages.

I offered him monetary compensation in the form of cash. He was not satisfied with the amount offered and asked for more.

By this time the police has been called in.

I would like to reiterate that it was a judgmental error on my part, there is absolutely no excuse on my careless driving and more importantly, I truly regretted it.

I would also like to take this opportunity to apologise to him for the inconveniences and distress caused.

Looking back I wished I handled the situation with more tact.

I sincerely apologise for the unnecessary inconveniences caused and I thank everyone again for your care and concern.

I didn’t know she was an actress

RBKD: In TNP’s report, they had interviewed an eye-witness, a 62-year-old resident who heard the crash from her second-storey flat. She said that she recognised Rui En’s car as she had seen it within the vicinity previously.

The retiree who declined to be named, shared that, “It wasn’t a loud confrontation. They were both calm when they were talking.”

TNP also published excerpts from Hype Record’s statement of the accident.

Rui En’s Fans Stand By Her

RBKD: When asked for her comment over phone, RBKD’s president shared that her first thought was whether the actress had been injured.

“Like all her other fans, my initial reaction was, ‘Oh my God, was she injured? It could have been a minor or major accident. I didn’t know the details yet.’

RBKD’s President also refused to pass judgement before she hears Rui En’s side of the story. When asked if she was shocked, RBKD’s President said, “I think it is important to be neutral first… until I find out the actual story.”

RBKD’s President believes that this incident will not affect the support from members. They will continue supporting her even at the upcoming Star Awards.

When asked about her support for Rui En at the Star Awards, RBKD’s President said: “Don’t even ask, that is not even a question. For me, she has my vote of confidence.”

Statement from Hype Records:

Dear Friends from the Media,

Thank you for all your concerns regarding Rui En’s involvement in an unfortunate incident that occurred yesterday, 12 April 2016.

At around 1610hrs, she was returning home and was driving into the car park located at her block. Due to some misjudgement, she accidentally knocked over a stationary motorcycle. No other driver and no one was hit or involved in the incident.

To avoid any congestion from oncoming traffic, she wanted to park her vehicle before addressing the matter but was stopped by the owner.

The car park is where she parks her vehicle everyday over many years and she had no intentions of ignoring or even running away from her responsibility.

Understandably, the owner of the motorcycle was upset and unfortunately, her intentions to position her vehicle in a safe area were mistaken.

The owner was very angry and reported the incident to the police.

As with most reported cases, the police will look into the matter and revert on upon their investigation.

We sincerely apologise for any inconveniences caused.

Pre-2007: The days of being ‘7 princesses’

Those were the days when “7 Princesses” were the talk of the town. Labeled as the “Ice Princess”, the association has always been a double-edged sword and understandably, non-conformist Rui En wasn’t comfortable with the labeling.

Still, what doesn’t kill you make you stronger; despite being ranked among the bottom few frequently back then, Rui En has certainly come a long way to her current state now.

Witty Rui En quipped, “who doesn’t love Elsa?” Indeed, now we know why even our young cousins adore Rui En? :p

There are times, most of the time in fact, when we hope that Rui En can be duly recognised for her respective roles with acting awards. Where to from now: Rui En’s progression to mature roles

Sure, fans might worry how Rui En has entered the land of no-return after her first ‘aunty’ role in upcoming “If Only I Could…..”

But more than anything else, fans just hope that Rui En gets to try a myriad of roles, defined by their depths and not age. Just like how Rui En do not wish to trap herself to the pigeonhole of being an idol or just become known for a certain type of roles, fans hope that her willingness to try diverse roles can be matched by equally varied range of opportunities too.

Aunty? Woa. Policewoman? Awesome. Goofy? Why not?

As long as you can deliver (and we know you will), by all means, challenge us with your multitude of roles and acting. We have adapted pretty well over the years, haven’t we? :p

Yup, so now Rui En has 2 cats and Bingo has been renamed muffin. Why huh? :p

Rui En claims that reading interviews of actors and actresses she admires as the fuel to keep her passion burning. Thank goodness for these people, hence you are still here in our lives.

Rui En also gave special thanks to many, including “angels sent from God” and her “Hype family” for always being there for her. Indeed. If you are reading this, you know you are included, you have always been there for her. Thank you for that.

Awards do not define Rui En.

Actress says “every year is perfection” and appreciates fanclub’s efforts to give back on her birthday

RBKD: RBKD celebrated Rui En’s birthday in advance with a charity drive on Saturday. This is RBKD’s sixth year celebrating Rui En’s birthday in the form of giving back.

Rui En told Toggle that “It makes such a difference celebrating by giving rather than receiving.”

When asked if this was the best birthday present from RBKD yearly, Rui En replied: “Every year is perfection.”
