So many people ask me why I do what I do.
So many don’t understand why I wouldn’t wanna pursue “greater” ie. more lucrative, interests.
Sure, here in Caldecott, we’re a long way from Hollywood and Beijing.
But. Have you listened to the piece of music from Cloud Atlas?
Have you watched Life of Pi or Perks of Being a Wallflower?
Can you comprehend how a line of a song or dialogue can change someone’s life forever?
Why I do this? Because I believe. In how music and cinema can change your life. Can leave you feeling a sort of disorientation that lasts for days.
Can leave you feeling human.
Whether Hollywood or Channel 8.
This. Is why I do what I do.
En.

Well, I must say it’s definitely the wedding season lately~
From the wedding of Elvin & Julie, it’s Li Nan Xing(æŽå—星)& Rui En’s(瑞æ©)turn to walk down the aisle! It seems like the main leads in C.L.I.F. 2 will be having happy endings in this drama .
As the year is coming to an end, so is the filming for C.L.I.F. 2~
The cast gathered at Chijmes Church to give their blessings to Wei Lan Tian(éè“天)& Huang Zi Jie (黄芷婕).
The wedding scene is mainly in white~ as the bride and groom enters, the team of police officers stands at both side of the aisle holding up the swords, making it a solemn yet romantic scenario. Don’t belittle these policemen, because they’re the real deal! There is a senior officer commanding them~
Gorgeous and elegant bride!
The bridesmaid and bridegroom are none other than C.L.I.F.1’s main leads, Joanne Peh (白薇秀)& Qi Yu Wu (戚玉æ¦)~
Li Nan Xing took up the role of the Head of Forensic Management Division Lan Tian Wei(éè“天), along with Rui En(瑞æ©), the Senior Investigation Officer Huang Zhi jie(黄芷婕), cracked many cases together. How do best partners fall in love with each other? You will have to stay tune to find out more!
The groom lifts up the veil on the bride, and plants a sweet kiss on her cheek !
This short romantic moment actually takes about 7 – 8 times of filming before appearing on TV for 5 seconds!
It may seem nice on TV, but in reality, walking down the aisle 6 times, kissing the bride 8 times?! Do you still think it’s romantic?
The filming is coming to an end~ Take more pictures to commemorate~
The cases in C.L.I.F. 2 are all cases that happened in real life, so the way they are presented will be similar to those in C.L.I.F. 1 ! The production crew will still be working closely with the Police Force, presenting the most factual side of each case!
See how law enforcers join forces to execute their tasks. See how police officers, on top of valiantly confronting criminals and overcoming various obstacles, reveal their true feelings when faced with the challenges of love, friendship and kinship.

This is your final chance to vote in this year’s Flame Awards. Noor Ashikin Abdul Rahman recaps the nominees.
BABE OF THE YEAR
1. Rui En
The level-headed ice queen remained cool despite her fall-out with actor Zhang Yaodong at this year’s Star Awards Show 1 in April.
2. Jeanette Aw
It’s a golden year for this beauty as she rakes in big bucks from endorsement deals and business opportunities all over.
3. Malmunah Bagharib
She’s pretty, smart and ballsy – and she really doesn’t care what you think of her. Enough said.

I read about the recent Asian Television Awards 2012 (Honours for Asia TV’s Best, Life!, Dec 8) with keen interest.
It used to be Channel 5 actors overshadowing the Chinese drama actors at the Asian Television Awards.
However, at the recent Asian Television Awards 2012, local Chinese drama actors scored a total of nine acting nominations. My heartiest congratulations to Rui En for winning Best Actress In A Leading Role at the awards.
Her role in Unriddle 2 as female cop Hu Xiaoman was a breath of fresh air. We seldom see such controversial roles in local Chinese dramas. And it is uncommon, even in overseas productions, for an actress to attempt such a character in the usually male-dominated crime thrillers.

The Flame Awards is celebrating 17 years – gosh, how time flies! – of discerning adulation and witty irreverence with a bang.
For nearly two decades, the sharp-tongued team at The New Paper has been handing out laurels to the crazy kids on the entertainment scene for adding colour to our lives.
We either praise these beloved stars or roast them with sadistic glee.
This year, expect a few new award categories that give special mention to celebrities who amused and perplexed us with their acts of impulsiveness.
But first, a classic readers’ favourite – BABE OF THE YEAR.
BABE OF THE YEAR
1. RUI EN
2. JEANETTE AW
3. MUNAH BAGHARIB
Two gorgeous veterans are up against a spunky newcomer. Will it be a case of youthful victory, or will experience and massive fan base win the day?
Want to find out more about these ladies?
Babe of the year
She’s icy cool over Flame nomination
1. Rui En
Staying true to her ice queen reputation, the 31-year old took in her Babe of The Year nomination coolly.
“Thanks for nominating me again,” she wrote in an e-mail reply.
“As usual, regarding any awards, I normally have zero expectations.”
The Hype Records artiste was juggling a hectic filming schedule and could not speak to us on the phone.
Rui En was nominated this year because we loved it that she kept it real at Star Awards Show 1 in April.
A comedic skit spoofing the A-list stars of Caldecott Hill mercilessly teased her about her then-highly publicised spat with actor Zhang Yaodong and she looked moody for the rest of the show.
Zhang had talked to the media about a rape scene he did with Rui En in the drama On the Fringe in August 2011. Rui En, who was working in Malaysia then, immediately posted a heated blog entry, stressing that she was against doing kissing and rape scenes.
At the Star Award Show 1, she didn’t even pretend to be happy for the cameras. In her acceptance speech, she said firmly: “We are here to film (dramas), not create news.”
Now, if that isn’t a dig at her colleagues’ – and perhaps, also the media’s – “kaypoh” chatter about her and Zhang, we don’t know what is.
In her e-mail replies to TNP, Rui En said: “All the teasing and ragging is really part and parcel of the game. Some said my face was black, only to realise afterwards that it’s my default look.
“I just honestly wish they could come up with some new material to tease me with.”
She didn’t say much about her chances against the other two nominees, labelmate Jeanette Aw and Maimunah Bagharib (Munah), but expressed concerns about her fans spending too much money on SMS votes.
“I know there has been plenty of voting going on this year for various awards, do vote within your means,” urged Rui En.
How to vote
For Babe of the Year, the keyword is TNPFLAMEBABE

BEST ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE
Rui En has acted in numerous memorable roles in her 10 years of acting. In 2011, three dramas she starred in were among the Top 6 most-watch dramas on MediaCorp Channel 8. A Tale of Two Cities debuted with a record more than 1 million in viewership and Rui En’s fresh approach of a princessy character won further praise and conviction from the audience. The role earned Rui En a nomination for Best Actress at Star Awards 2012. Her scorching popularity has further been affirmed when she was recently voted into the Top 10 Most Popular Female Artiste for the 7th consecutive year at Star Awards 2012, as well as the Singapore E-Awards 2012 Most Popular TV Artiste for the third year in a row.
“Thank you to the production team for giving me the opportunity and space to bring out the extremities of the role.”Hu Xiao Man” would not have existed without EP Paul Yuen and script writer Phang Kai Yee. “Hu Xiao Man” will always remain significant to me. Thank you, ATA.” – Rui En

By Yip Wai Yee
Singaporeans Rui En and Michelle Chong were given top awards at the 17th Asian Television Awards.
Rui En won the award got Best Actress In A Leading Role, for her role as a criminal investigation department officer in crime drama Unriddle 2, while Chong received the award for Best Comedy Performance By An Actor/Actress for her spot-on impersonations in news parody sketch show The Noose.
Both stars, however, did not attend the glitzy event held at Shangri-La Hotel here on Thursday night.
Rui En, 31, tells Life! that she could not attend as she was filming a new drama series. She says: “I am both surprised and honoured by the award.
For me, the work and the craft have always been my focus, and awards are the icing on the cake.”

The annual awards show, organised by Singapore-headquartered media company Contineo Media, recognises excellence in production, programming and performance in TV productions around Asia.
This year, there was a total of 48 award categories for entries from 13 Asian countries. The results were determined by a panel of 48 judges comprising media industry players from around Asia.
