Winning an award is undoubtedly the biggest moment of any star’s career, but can you imagine being in the limelight for the wrong reason – tripping and falling face-flat at an awards ceremony? Just look at what happened to Silver Linings Playbook actress Jennifer Lawrence, who stumbled in her Dior couture dress, when she approached the stage to receive the Best Actress award at the Oscars.
Similarly in local showbiz, Rui En (or rather, Rui En’s character) takes a stumble – quite literally – at an award ceremony staged for her upcoming Ch8 drama series, The Dream Makers. While J-Law waved off her fall with a hearty chuckle and a candid remark to the audience, Rui En’s character Fang Tong Lin makes up for her fall by doing funny faces to the camera.
With the first Star Awards 2013 show set to take place this Sunday, all eyes are on Rui En, the undisputed two-time winner in the Favourite Female Character category, as she goes head-on with Kimberly Chia in a tough fight to retain her title. It may be still too early to say who’s going home the big winner, but you never know if we’ll see a stumble (figuratively speaking in terms of popularity, we say) on the night itself. You know what we mean: keep voting for your favourite idol here if you don’t want to see them out of the race.
Starring local big-names like Zoe Tay, Chen Li Ping, Rui En, Jeanette Aw, Qi Yu Wu and more, The Dream Makers is a spiced-up version of the local showbiz which revolves around the people working in a television station.
Click on to check out more behind-the-scenes happenings and a never-before-seen side of Rui En!

Unlike his character Liu Chuan Zhi, who always puts in a huge amount of effort to make himself look good by dressing nicely and styling his hair, Ian emphasised that he does not care about his appearance off-screen.
“If I bothered about looking good, I wouldn’t have gone all out for my role in Don’t Stop Believin’ without caring about my image at all,†he said.
The actor will be taking another big step in his acting career with a role in the upcoming Ch8 drama Sudden in which he plays a lawyer alongside co-actors Rebecca Lim, Rui En and Romeo Tan. Calling it his “breakthrough roleâ€, Ian said that he is extremely excited and looks forward to the new challenge.

As one of the most highly-anticipated award segments of the night, latest updates for the Star Awards Top 20 Most Popular Artistes as of Monday, April 15 at 2pm have seen a slight ranking switcheroo.
On to the ladies: Jeanette Aw, Pan Ling Ling, Rebecca Lim, Rui En, Vivian Lai and Yvonne Lim have enjoyed unparalleled popularity amongst TV viewers as this is their third consecutive listing in the Top 10 ranks. Ann Kok and Belinda Lee are faring well, as both actresses have made it into the Top 10 position for the second week running.
Outgoing host and actress Kym Ng, who is also running for Best Actress award, has made it onto the Top 10 list with Paige Chua, while newly-attached Joanne Peh is out of the game this week. The latter’s exit from the Top 10 polls comes across as a big surprise, as she recently fronted the cover of a local tabloid with her new beau, Yuwu, when they went public with their new relationship last week.

The battle for the title of Favourite Male Character in this year’s Star Awards is shaping up to be a close fight between two young’uns: Xu Bin and Aloysius Pang.
After reigning the Favourite Male Character polls for a good three weeks, Taiwanese funnyman Alien Huang dropped to third position last week, with younger peers Xu Bin and Aloysius taking over the top spots. We see this trend continue in our latest updates this week, but with a slight shuffle of its own as Xu Bin drops to second position with Aloysius in the lead with his It Takes Two character.
Over to the Favourite Female Character category, fans hoping to see a shake-up in last week’s leaderboard will be disappointed as there are no changes with Kimberly still in the lead and Rui En and Rebecca Lim trailing behind in second and third position respectively. It seems like Kimberly is set to take home her first Star Awards trophy this year and fans of Rui En have got to step up their game should they hope to see the latter bring home the Favourite Female Character award for the third time.
All’s not lost yet though. Here’s a little consolation for ‘RuiVin’ fans: the Unriddle 2 couple is in the undisputed lead for the Favourite Onscreen couple award as they take home the #1 spot (again) in this week’s polling outcome. Alien and Rui En’s pairing in Joys of Life comes in second with Christopher Lee and Jesseca Liu’s (in Game Plan) standing at third placing.
Result as of April 11, 10am (7th week):
Favourite Female Character
1. Kimberly Chia
2. Rui En
3. Rebecca Lim
Favourite Onscreen couple
1. Elvin and Rui en
2. Alien and Rui en
3. Christopher and Jesseca

Confession: thanks to past media reports on Ken Lim and the TV persona he’s built for himself as a stern and no-nonsense judge on the past three seasons of Singapore Idol, we began our roundtable interview with Ken feeling a little apprehensive, half-expecting snarky and standoffish answers laced with sarcasm.
Unlike most celebrity judging panels, which feature famous personalities butting heads, The Final 1 trio respects each other for their areas of expertise. Each of them has, after all, carved a niche in showbiz and the music industry.
In between Taufik’s experience as a contestant, Kit’s regional success as a recording artiste and Ken’s penchant for grooming top celebs like Rui En and Jeanette Aw, the judges are prepared to discover a winner with the “x-factor†and a “long-lasting qualityâ€.
As he peppered the interview with insights on our lackluster music industry and his search for “the Final 1â€, we had one last question for Ken before the interview came to an end.
Between his identities as the big boss who has groomed successful HYPE artistes such as Rui En and Jeanette and his TV façade as a harsh (and honest, he adds) judge, we asked: who do you think you really are?
As a wink to the thankless work he’s undertaken to revamp the local music scene, he chucked wryly, “A volunteer.â€

Channel 8 recently relaunched its Toggle Now mobile app for Star Awards 2013. Full of informative trivia and random fun, it was designed to be the gossipy, all-knowing BFF who’s your best SA2013 TV companion!! And guess what, it’s a GREAT app.
Here are 7 reasons why:
1. Win an iPad mini!
Say whaaat? In the Predict & Win tab, predict the winners of 13 award categories in Show 2. (this includes Best Actor/Actress, Best Variety Host, even Best Drama Serial etc etc) If you get a perfect score, you will stand to win an iPad mini! 5 winners will be chosen.
*You will need a MediaCorp Access ID to login. The contest closes at 6.30pm on 28 Apr (Show 2). Remember, the app will log in your last submitted answers before the contest closes.
2. Award the artistes you think are best-dressed
Previously the Best-dressed awards were solely judged by the professional judges of iWeekly, but now you get to weigh in on this! The Poll tab will open at 7pm on Show 2, and the red carpet looks of 16 nominees (8 male and 8 female, shortlisted by iWeekly) will be shown. Your votes will help determine who wins! [Interim poll results will be shown during Show 2 too!]
*Poll closes at 9.15pm, the awards will be given out during the post-show party on Ch U at 11pm.
3. Truckloads of information for the SA geeks
Forget Wikipedia, this is your new SA bible. Go into the Nominees tab and see all the past winners of each category, and who presented the awards! [Did you know Xie Shao Guang won Best Actor 5 times, and Chen Han Wei comes close with 4? Did you know Tony Leung came to present awards twice, in 1998 and 2002?]
*We included extra exclusive tidbits in the Fave Online categories, where you will hear from the nominees themselves!
4. Trivia, Trivia, Trivia
The Trivia tab gives you A LOT of questions of SA trivia since 1994. If you get stuck, post on FB to ask a friend and you can continue on making a record winning streak! Can you beat the current record of 395??
5. Funny frames
The Star Camera tab is the runaway hit that allows fans to put SA-themed frames over their own pictures. Drama-wise, so far only the Best Drama nominees are included, but more will be released! Users can save to phone, share on FB and Twitter.
6. Twitter Feed
A Twitter waterfall of all tweets containing the official SA hashtag #SA2013. This should be very active on the live shows of 21 and 28 April. For the first time, artistes’ tweets will also be shown on-air during the show!
7. Live backstage content
The Photos and Star Moments tabs are not your usual photos/video feed… Apart from exclusive content from now on, it will be pumped full of LIVE content from our backstage crew during the live shows. This means you get pictures of the artistes’ reactions from off-stage, interviews with foreign artistes from the media corner and all the stuff you never saw on camera!
