The results for the Star Awards Top 20 Most Popular Artistes as of Monday, April 1 at 2PM have been released – and no, it wasn’t an April Fool’s prank!

Just like last year, the Top 20 Most Popular Artistes are selected from a combination of 50% telepoll voting and 50% online voting, instead of the old method of 50% telepoll voting and 50% survey results.

As expected, MediaCorp Princesses Joanne Peh, Rui En and Jeanette Aw all made the Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes. If they go all the way, it will be their seventh, eighth and ninth win respectively.

We get on the cheeky side of things and come up with our very own list of alternative, yet fun, award categories for the Star Awards 2013

Truth be told, there are plenty of award-winning moments but only one Best Actress and Best Actor award.

So, to reward the actors – who were snubbed, or not – for their emotional and convincing acting, we decided to come up with our very own fun polls for Star Awards 2013. After much deliberation and discussion, we’ve streamlined our choices and categorised them in three broad segments: the best crier, most memorable fight scene and most romantic kissing scene on local TV.

If you think Ian deserves a nod for his emotional delivery, felt pangs of heartache for Jeanette Aw’s damsel in distress turn in Beyond, bawled your eyes out at Rui En and Chen Liping’s emotional outburst in Unriddle 2, or silently wept alongside Joanne Peh’s heartbrokenness in Pillow Talk, here’s how you can make it happen.

This just in: After securing the position for four straight weeks, Rui En has lost her top spot in the Favourite Female Character category.

Rui En, who is nominated for her role as Liu Yan Zhi in Poetic Justice, was dethroned by Don’t Stop Believin’s Kimberly Chia. The actresses were also up against each other in the 2012 polls, with Rui En taking home in the ultimate crown for the second year running. So attention, RBKD! If you want to see her bag the honour a third time, remember to start voting.

Nor is fellow MediaCorp Princess, Felicia Chin, faring well – she has completely dropped out of the top three this week, with Rui En’s Poetic Justice co-star Rebecca Lim sliding into third place.

The boys faced a bit of a reshuffling as well. Alien Huang may have been king of the Favourite Male Character category during the first three rounds of voting, but the Taiwanese star is falling fast, and is down another spot to number three.

It Takes Two’s Aloysius Pang, however, is clearly on a roll – he’s now in second place, despite only appearing in the top three for the first time last week. Will he snatch the top spot from current champ Xu Bin? Only time – and your votes! – will tell.

The rankings for Favourite Onscreen Couple remain unchanged. Elvin Ng and Rui En (or ‘RuiVin’) are still going strong, while Alien Huang and Rui En, as well as Christopher Lee and Jesseca Liu, continue to hang around in their second and third places.

You’ve still got about a month left to vote, so help get your picks to the coveted top positions by rooting for them!

The competition for this year’s Star Awards 2013 Top 20 Most Popular Male and Female artistes heats up following the recent influx of new actors in the TV station.

Romeo Tan

After playing so many boy-next-door roles, Romeo’s star continues to rise in 2013 as he is set to play lead actor and romance Rui En in an upcoming drama centered on four lawyers (Rebecca Lim and Zhang Zhenhuan co-stars).

Elvin Ng

Despite being a regular name on the Top 10 Most Popular Male artiste list, Elvin said, ‘Life is full of surprises, it’s very difficult to say [if I’ll be going up to receive this award this year].’ The actor honestly told xinmsn that he hopes to win ‘both awards’ that he is currently nominated for i.e. Favourite Onscreen Couple with Rui En and the Most Popular Male Artiste award.

‘There’s no point beating around the bush. I’ll be honest, I want both! (laughs),’ he joked.

On his failure to make it to the final five Favourite Male Character nomination list, Elvin commented that the ‘rules of the game have changed’ and ‘we just have to adapt to it’. He also shared that he was really quite happy and proud of his role in Unriddle 2 as it allowed him to show a different side of himself.

The Star Awards 2013 Top 10 Most Popular Male / Female Artistes nominees were revealed at a media event on Friday.

Big names like Elvin Ng, Qi Yu Wu, Dai Yang Tian, Rui En, Jeanette Aw and Joanne Peh made the list again this year.

The nominees list remained largely the same as last year’s, though there were some surprises.

The Top 10 Most Popular Male/Female Artistes awards are completely decided by audience votes.

The results will be revealed during the “Star Awards 2013 (Show 2)”, which will be broadcast live over Channel 8 on April 28.

It’s time once again for us to unveil 2013’s 40 hopefuls for the Star Awards Top 20 Most Popular artistes. This year, there are a total of nine changes to the 2012 lineup. These new names comprise of both fresh talents making their first appearance, as well as industry veterans making a comeback.

Just like last year, the Top 20 Most Popular Artistes will be selected from 50% telepoll voting and 50% online voting, instead of like the old days when it was based on 50% telepoll voting and 50% survey results. This makes it much easier for voters to ensure that their favoured few make it into the coveted list.
