With local fans going gaga over foreign talent, have local stars lost their lustre?

Has the sizzle gone out of local fanfare?

Definitely not, said those who spoke to The New Paper on Sunday.

Among the stars who have their own fan clubs are Jeanette Aw, Rui En, Dai Yang Tian and Elvin Ng.

RBKD, a fan club for actress Rui En, manages an official website, a blog, a forum and actively promotes gee shows across various platforms such as YouTube, Twitter and Facebook.

The 105-member club is in the process of registering itself as a society.

The President of RBKD said: “I acknowledge that K-pop especially has overshadowed our local entertainment industry, but these (local) artistes are the ones unique to us.

“Sometimes if we give them a chance and keep an open mind, we would realize that the grass is not always greener on the other side.”

Mr Paul Chan said: “Whatever it is, we must recognize that fans are an integral part of a star’s success.

“But the absence of physical presence does not mean there is a lack of support.”

戏里颇多武打脚踢动作镜头，拍摄过程中瑞恩吃了不少苦头，粉丝们带着水果远道而来，为她消解不少工作压力。她笑得如此开怀的画面，可是平常少见的。

瑞恩去年底买下iPad，用来等戏时消磨时间。 但她自称很low tech， 不怎么玩游戏，仅利用iPad看杂志Vanity Fair和上网阅读新闻。打开她的iPad一看，发现：里头只有10余张照片，而且几乎都是偶像Marion Cotillard的玉照，她说：“她演技太好了! 如果能和她最小的脚趾指甲一样好，我就可以死得很开心了。放她的照片，正是为了时时刻刻提醒自己朝这个目标努力。”

她特别爱写Notes，在《边缘父子》饰演盲女的她洋洋洒洒好几百字刻画角色内心世界，最近还忙阅读关于海伦凯勒(Helen Keller)的小故事，丰富自己对视障人士的了解……是用功的咯!

The spotlight is on this special group of people who flock to events and award ceremonies in groups to cheer on their favourite idols

As the saying goes, behind every successful man, there is a woman. The same analogy applies for these local artistes — it’s the fans who maketh the stars. These actors wouldn’t be where they are today without the unwavering support and unconditional love from this bunch of loyal and fervent fans.

You see them whenever there’s a huge event taking place. They come out full-force in uniform coloured t-shirts, brandishing handmade signboards, banners, placards, and LED lightboards, braving the heat and humidity to garner the loudest cheers for their beloved idols.

Without this group of people wholeheartedly rallying around these stars, newbie Zhou Ying probably wouldn’t have nabbed her very first Top 10 Most Popular Female Artiste Award — neither would A-listers such as Rui En, Joanne Peh or Jeanette Aw constantly pick up coveted trophies year after year at the Star Awards.

Established in 2008 with a current strength of 105 priority and ordinary members.

If you ask us, RBKD’s more than just a fanclub. It may have started off as a support force for Rui En, but her fans have matured and grew with her through the years. They have moved on from merely rallying around her to extending a helping hand towards the less fortunate with their charity projects. Heeding their idol’s advice to “do more than what a normal fanclub does”, the club is planning to launch a fortnightly charity drive to distribute dry food to the elderly in Toa Payoh.

We speak to fanclub president Peh Xinyi for more insight.

RBKD stands for… Rui Bu Ke Dang (‘unstoppable’ in English)

Most memorable thing done for Rui En… in 2009 when we compiled a travel guide to the world’s best beaches for her 28th birthday. We compiled four booklets, each featuring different continents of the world, and each booklet consisted of 28 different beaches because she was turning 28 at that time.

Number of phone calls we made for Star Awards… varies. Some members make about 20 to 30 phone calls each. As our members are very young, it concerns us if they overspend.

Last met up with Rui En… two Saturdays ago. It was very rushed affair because of her tight schedule before she left to film Code of Honour in Malaysia. We had a simple dinner together and it was a very small gathering for 20 people. What was nice about the gathering was that we had chicken rice, which she loves a lot — it was also a treat from her.

Rui En says… Every time I am tired and about to give up, I think about what my fans do for me and it (the tiredness) doesn’t seem like such a big deal anymore.

瑞恩对奖项不强求

粉丝的力量是锐不可当的。

要不然平时行事低调，没有多少花边新闻的本地小阿姐瑞恩，近来会一举夺下多项人气奖项，高唱丰收凯歌。

对于粉丝的力挺，瑞恩觉得内疚之余，不忘在演艺道路继续突破。

奖项是牺牲的回报

4月对瑞恩来说，可是喜事连连，拿奖拿到手软。

月初在《新加坡e乐大赏2011》蝉联“e乐人气本地电视演员”的她，两周后在《银光闪耀–红星大奖2011》摘下“最喜爱女角色”桂冠。稿子出街时，相信瑞恩的家里又增加多一座“10大最受欢迎女艺人”的《红星》琉璃奖座。

虽然很有“得奖命”，瑞恩却保着一颗感恩的心，一点也不自满。对于击败欧萱、戴阳天、黄俊雄等人气王，二度蝉联“e乐人气本地电视演员”，她是受宠若惊的。“我真的是万分感动，一想到影迷所花的钱和心思，我更是觉得很内疚，不懂得要如何答谢他们。我的粉丝就是这样可爱，每次都会给我意外的惊喜！”

一些艺人对奖项非常强求，因为奖项会影响他们的“额外花红”。自认为戏剧“做出了很多牺牲”的瑞恩，却把它当作是一整年辛苦工作的最佳回报。“坦白说我对奖项一直没有抱着什么期望，也不会去想。我只会坚持要自己的本分做好，其他的就随缘吧！”

愧对粉丝好内疚

瑞恩的fanclub“瑞不可当”的粉丝可是非常努力地支持她。每逢有奖项或投选活动，他们都全心全力地参与，结果偶像在多个大奖，几乎是百发百中。粉丝们给予的厚爱，让瑞恩”非常惭愧”。难怪上电视领奖，她会说出”我不知道我做了什么能得到这些”。

在访问中谈到影迷，瑞恩多次重复了”内疚“两个字。”我知道他们为我做了很多事，心里也万分感激。可是我却得一直拍戏，不能一直抽空正面答谢他们。” 谈到“瑞不可当”的fans，瑞恩不只一次笑说他们很“矛盾”。

“他们超爱帮我宣传，现在有了Twitter,他们就会经常下来拍摄地点探我的班，可是看见我的时候，只是静静地站在一旁，不想跟我讲话，真的很矛盾！” 议粉丝们下次找瑞恩的时候，不妨做出一些出乎意料的举动（比如热情拥抱），给她一个甜美的惊喜！

《银光闪耀红星大奖 2011》颁奖礼昨晚（17日）举行，由xinmsn鼎力推动的4个网上投选奖项，成绩昨晚宣布。

自投票开始以来，瑞恩饰演的杨小冬（《过好年》）和黄俊雄的邹杰明《破天网》，凭着强大的粉丝力量，一路领先，果然不负众望，安稳打败其他对手。

瑞恩：粉丝是我的动力

去年《红星大奖》首次添加“最喜爱女角色”奖项，瑞恩有两个角色入围，最终却败给了同门姐妹欧萱。今年，她的粉丝积极投票，总算帮偶像扳回一城。

对于奖项，瑞恩不会去想太多，所以这次得奖，显得受宠若惊。

穿得一身帅气的她，在台上表示：”我不知道我做了什么能得到这些。”

瑞恩的粉丝，一向不遗余力，在任何场合都尽百分百支持，瑞恩也为此备受感动。她在台上感谢他们，表示会努力把戏演好，当作是对影迷的交待。

她后台接受xinmsn访问时坦言：”有时我累的时候，我都会想我的粉丝为我做了这么多，他们甚至可以为我熬夜，在外面排队，他们就是我的动力。”

她告诉记者，其实看到粉丝如此努力，感到蛮内疚的。

瑞恩感激粉丝的坚持，也希望他们不只是一个普通的后援会，盼引导他们做多点有意义的东西。

瑞恩自认没望获”视后”

瑞恩与欧萱属于同个经纪公司，自相残杀，人气不分高下。瑞恩也觉得，欧萱有强大的粉丝阵容，是她最强的竞争对手。

至于无法蝉联的欧萱，她倒是很大方，笑容满面恭喜瑞恩。

她说：”其实不会（失望），我会为她开心，我觉得这个一个很大的鼓励，无论是哪个演员拿到这个奖，也一定很开心。”

当瑞恩被问到是否更有信心赢得”最佳女主角”时，摇了好几次头，表示：”我完全没有去想……那个……我应该是没有希望的。”

First and foremost, I would like to extend my sincere apologies on behalf of RBKD to everyone who has shown us concern over the misunderstanding. Thank you for your words of encouragement and understanding.

When it comes to allocating tickets, RBKD will always first consider our Priority Members and subsequently our Ordinary Members. Only when we have excess in tickets will we consider the non-members through balloting. But this almost never happens because with a membership base of 103, it is always the case of demand far exceeding supply.

However, in view of the possibility that there might be excess tickets allocated to us at the very last minute, we decided to extend application to non-members too.

The rationale behind the requirement to have our RBKD Fan Tee and Board is purely intuitive. As per all societies, there is a need for a collective identity when representing the society. Considering most of our members already possess the two items, this arrangement is the most logical, intuitive and economical consideration because our members will not need to fork out a single cent for this purpose. This is why the tickets are complimentary!

Perhaps a result of miscommunication, the parent misunderstood our goodwill as sales of the complimentary tickets. To be honest, we are very disappointed and somewhat disheartened too.

We wonder why we bothered to go the extra mile, creating troubles for ourselves by extending goodwill to non-members only to be misunderstood and be seen in a bad light. We question why we have been insisting on a zero-fees membership scheme if we were to be seen as profit-driven ultimately. Yes, we questioned why.

But we also question ourselves; can we live with it if we isolate RBKD and neglect the welfare of Rui En’s non-member fans because of this isolated incident? The many who have been so supportive of us?

Did you hear that? Our hearts shouted a loud “No way!” Indeed, would it still be RBKD if we were so unsympathetic?

In life, we cannot and should not expect the understanding from everyone. This is a good learning process and I’m sure we have all learnt something out of it. But to have the support and understanding of everyone who has shown us concern, we can’t help but express how thankful we are. We will however, always try to improve. We can’t win over the whole world, but we will treat everyone with the sincerity we have always displayed.
