Riddle Me This, Unriddle Me That

The stars of Ch 8’s latest crime drama, Unriddle, tell us the riddles that puzzle them. We try our best to provide answers.

Rui En

“Why do guys pay so much attention to their hair? It puzzles me. They pretend to be so garang, but they’re actually so vain.”

Are you an Ordinary or Priority Member?

Idol Worship by Jonathan Fam

A couple of posters of Rui En or Joanne Peh on your wall don’t qualify you as a die-hard fan, at least not according to these fan clubs that expect nothing less than complete devotion to their patron star from members. Here’s the low-down on six local fan clubs.

In praise of… Rui En (Page 38)

Name of FC: RBKD

Established: In 2008.

Slogan: “Traversing the road less traveled, lux veritas” (Roughly translated as ‘light and truth’) as suggested by Rui En.

Prove your loyalty: “Every member writes her a letter every second Friday of the month. By the way, when will she appear on your cover again? It’s already been a year.”

Lodge With Me
Thur, Ch 8, 8pm

Fiona Xie’s baaack! Well, in a manner of speaking. Filmed before she moved to HK, Fiona is one of several hosts of this 13-part travelogue on Asia’s myriad guesthouses. The first five eps see Felicia Chin tour Taiwan where she checks into some of the these quaint lodges, chills out with its owners, and soaks up the local culture. Elsewhere, Rui En and Together’s Kola Zhou head for Japan (Eps 6-8) and Thailand (Eps 9-10) respectively. Fiona ends the show in Korea (Eps 11-13). Some people have all the luck.

Up, up and away
The mood was sombre at the press meet for Adrian Pang’s Ch 8 swansong With You in the aftermath of Felicia Chin bidding adieu at the Star Awards.

Chen Shucheng speaks up!
“It saddens me that some artistes cannot accept the terms on their contracts. But there needs to be some give and take – you don’t demand for too much. That’s why when I sign my contract, I’m in and out in five minutes. Of course, the company has to be fair too. I don’t know if it’s a coincidence, but I haven’t had an onscreen wife for the past four years and I’m always the single parent. And in With You, I’ve to advise my daughter-in-law (played by Rui En) about abortion. That doesn’t sound right, does it?”

With You
May 12, Wednesday, Channel 8, 9PM
A ‘remake’ of Fiona Xie’s Maggie & Me, this 20-parter is about a man (Adrian Pang in his swansong MediaCorp role) who’s a go-between between a wandering spirit (Chen Hanwei) and his wife (Rui En).

Black beauty… again: We know this sleek all-black Gucci get-up is right up Rui-en’s alley, but would it kill the princess to inject some colour into her wardrobe for once?

Rui En’s Grade: C
What a drag: She claims to be channelling film siren Marlene Dietrich’s androgynous falir, but we can’t stop thinking about how Rui En ‘stole’ the undone bowtie off Christopher Lee’s neck (he wore something similar at this ROM ceremony).

3. What you didn’t get to see on TV – Page 45

Makan time: After they were done with their make-up, the stars relak one corner and grabbed a quick dinner. The menu: fried bee hoon or nasi lemak.

8 DAYS Photographer Joel Low recounts his most memorable cover shoots and the interesting things that never made it to print… until now.

(Issue #982) “This swamp was somewhere out in Lim Chu Kang. The mud reached past my ankles because it had been raining heavily. The place literally smelled like sh*t but Rui En was very patient.”

A RUN FOR THEIR MONEY

TAY PING HUI and RUI EN are leading a Battle-Of-The-Sexes face-off at this year’s 10km Nike+ Human Race. The team which clocks the most miles in the weeks leading up to the race will win money for charity. We check in on the sweaty celebs.

Training method
Rui En: “My filming schedule has been intensive, so I’ve had no time to train. I’ve never tried a protein shake in my life, and I’m sure eating my favourite chicken rice is a sufficient diet plan.”

I think I’ll finish the race in…
Rui En: “Depends on how fast the trishaw uncle I hired can pedal. Actually, I’m a newbie runner, so I’m here to have fun. No pressure.”

I’ve been trying to recruit people to my team by..
Tay Ping Hui: “I’m confident more guys will join because… of Rui En! They’re not joining the run to see me, right?”
Rui En: “Since I haven’t had time, my fan club has been a big help.”

The Nike Human Race is on Oct 24. To help Tay Ping Hui or Rui En clock more miles before they big day, log on to http://www.nikeplus.com.sg/ to register. You’ll need to buy a Nike Sportsband to upload your running distance and add to your team’s miles. So far, the guys are ahead by over 9,000 km and have won $20,000 out of the $50,000 prize(the contest is conducted in five stages over six weeks).
