In the final of our three-part Star Awards winners’ prediction, we take a guess at who are the top 10 most popular male and female artistes of the year

Oh, how the game has changed.

This year, the Top 20 (10 from each gender) Most Popular Male and Female Artistes will be decided through a combination of telepoll and online voting, where the latter is introduced for the first time in the awards ceremony’s history.

Traditionally, public voting was wholly done via telepoll hotlines, but this year’s results will be a combination of 50% telepoll voting and 50% online voting.

A change in the voting mechanism this year may alter the fates of your favourite artistes. Artistes with a younger and more IT savvy fan base, may secure themselves an edge over others who used to rely on telepoll voting.

Should a tie occur on the night of the actual show, the final Top 10 will be determined via results from a previous survey.

Telepoll lines for the Top 10 Most Popular Male/Female Artistes awards is open from Mar 15 to Apr 29, 2012, 9pm; online voting commenced on Mar 16, and will end on Apr 29, 2012.

With only a couple more days to go, we say it’s high time you rally your family and friends and work those fingers, if you don’t want your favourite artiste to go home empty handed on Sunday night.

Who will clinch that coveted spot, and who will go home empty-handed?

They have had a consistent track record of taking a spot on the Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes award, and it wouldn’t be any different this year; this trio seemed like the shoo-in winners for this category.

Rui En has had plenty of exposure on local television this year, with lead roles in A Tale of 2 Cities, Code of Honour and Unriddle 2. She even won the Favourite Female Character award for her role as Zhang Ya Le at last week’s Star Awards Show 1; since the award was determined wholly through online voting, we dare say it is once again a shoo-in for the actress this time.

红星大奖评审比例、会上讨论等等都可考虑在来年作出改进。图为“红星大奖2010”第二场颁奖典礼。

红星大奖可以再往公信力与权威性靠近一些，评审比例、会上讨论等等都可考虑在来年作出改进，接受本报专访时，红星大奖筹委会主席丘文光作出正面回应。

本报记者向担任今年红星大奖决选的评审了解细节后，向新传媒提出有关疑问与建议，也是新传媒电视副董事经理的丘文光大方接受专访，有问必答，针对一些投选机制的“缺陷”与“不足”，坦然表示来年可以再改进。

内外评审比例太悬殊

记者就四大点向新传媒提出建议，一是红星大奖决选，内部与外部的评审比例太悬殊，为了提高公信力，减低外界有“内定”的印象，内外的比例应该相当，至少内部不应超过外部，才有说服力。

据了解，今年的决选评审，新传媒内部各高级主管有十来名，外部则只有五人，不到一半。

丘文光说，今年的决选评审有20名，其中原本八个是来自电视台以外的人士，不过有三人后来因故缺席，最后只有五人参加，他们是媒体发展管理局助理局长（营运）陈继贤、电影导演唐永健、退休前传媒高层蔡芙蓉、资深前媒体人管雪梅和本报副刊主任胡文雁。

丘文光说，原本八名外界人士占评审团的40%，可惜最后三人退出，“外人”比例又降回三分之一。

他指出，本地对这个行业有认识同时又常看华语电视剧的人不多，这是他在物色评审时面对的最大障碍。但他坦言，有关问题，这几年他一直在反思，希望来年能逐渐将比例提高到一半，使评审团更显中立。

他补充说，红星大奖第一场颁奖礼颁发的专业奖项，内外评审的比例做到四六比，即电视台以外人士所占比率达六成，当中包括外地的相关技术人员。

各方参考不同意见

记者提出另一点，是红星大奖的决选会议上，评审观看了几分钟候选片段后，便在纸上打分，并没有像外地权威大奖如台湾金马奖、金曲奖、金钟奖那样，让评审针对不同人选提出支持的理由，或甚至进行讨论或辩论，让各方参考不同的意见再投票。

丘文光指出，有进行讨论的大奖，评审团或许较小，他之前参加过的亚洲电视大奖和亚洲艾美奖等评审会议，都没有让评审进行讨论，只是投票而已。

他的顾虑是电视剧和节目有很多集，尽管送交评审打分的只有一集，但期望评审自己也看到其他集，对候选人有更全面的了解，如果安排讨论，他担心电视台的评审代表，因为更熟悉节目的制作、细节，在进行辩论时，意见会影响其他中立评审。

不过，他也同意，如果将来外界人士的比例有所提高，或许他会支持让评审们在投票前进行讨论。

评选时面对的不公问题

记者提出第三点，是委制节目在评选时面对的不公问题。除了中立人士，决选评审团大部分成员是由新传媒内部主管，大家在投选时“偏向支持内部制作”也是人之常情，但如此一来，由外面制作公司的作品，在竞争时难免吃亏。记者提问，是否可以也让外制公司有代表参与投票？

丘文光觉得，负责节目制作的“新传媒制作”的主管或许有理由“偏心”，但负责节目编排与宣传的“新传媒电视”应该是比较中立者，就由他们来负责发挥平衡的作用。

他说，当初选名单产生后，由几名“新传媒电视”主管——包括丘文光他的几名属下，会组成最后审批委员会，负责检视有无“遗珠”。

他举例，不只是外制作品处于劣势，一些在7点播映的电视剧，看过的人可能因为在归途中错过，在投选时被忽略。还有在红星大奖评审期较早前播映的剧集，也可能被人淡忘而吃亏。于是，最后审批会把可能被遗漏的作品拿出来讨论，如果多数人认可，则予以入围资格。

出现平手的处理

记者提出的第四点，是评审在决选会议时打分后把表格交回，但票数总结并非在所有评审面前公开，万一出现平手作何处理？是否应该改变做法，让评审在现场可以针对平手奖项再作一轮投票？当然，如果担心赛果提早外泄，可以要求参与评审事前先签同意书，不对外透露投票结果。

丘文光对这个建议有所保留，他说，如果出现平手，大会就颁两个奖，像上一场最佳编剧就出现两名得主。他说，与其重新投票决定一个得主，不如让两个人都获得鼓励。

To commemorate 30 years of Channel 8 drama productions, “Joys of Life” is a massive star-studded drama which continues the legacy of “Wok of Life” and “Springs of Life”. Going back in time to the 1950s – 1960s, viewers can experience what life was like when mobile getai was all the rage. Chew Chor Meng takes centrestage in this series, starring alongside Rui En, Chen Li Ping and Taiwanese idols Wang Xin Ru and Alien Huang (Xiao Gui).

Sometimes the best way to move forward is to take a look back at what got you here. Ch 8 celebrates 30 years of local drama with a nostalgic trip back to the great, great Technicolor world of getai. This year’s Joys of Life is the final chapter of a retrospective trilogy that includes 1999’s Wok of Life and 2002’s Spring of Life which offered peeks at the goings-on of a zichar restaurant and a cabaret troupe respectively. Joys brings us into the lives of three buddies – fame-hungry Mingxing (Taiwanese actor-host Alien Huang), mousy and self-effacing Zibin (Andie Chen) and the playful, reckless Yiduo (Zhang Yaodong) – who set up a getai business in ’60s Singapore. Except swinging musical numbers, gorgeous period sets and fashionably mod threads, as well as fun celeb cameos in a story about friendship, romance and betrayal. It’s, in short, a take about the days of being wild.

Foreign Talent: Singaporeans know Taiwanese actor-host Alien Huang (flanked by Cynthia Wang, left, and Rui En), best as a kopitiam boy in Michelle Chong’s movie, Already Famous. To prepare for his first Ch 8 leading role, the 28-year old actor picked up Cantonese and Malay to sound more local.

Joys of Life 花样人间 debuts 26 June 2012 9pm on Channel 8.
