Actors turn down roles for a host of reasons.

Who: Rui En
No to: Kissing & intimate scenes

Call Rui En a prude or unprofessional but the local actress has openly voiced that she does not do kissing or intimate scenes. Oh, and she doesn’t give a rat’s a** about what you think either.

In 2008, the actress reportedly turned down the lead role in TV drama The Defining Moment due to a rape scene in the script.

While her refusal to compromise might limit her opportunities, it does not seem to have hurt her popularity or career.

The 32-year-old has bagged Best Actress trophies every year since 2011 – twice in the Star Awards (2011 and 2013), and once in the Asian Television Awards (2012) – and has made it to the Star Awards Top 10 Most Popular Female Artiste list (decided by public voting) every year since 2005.

You might say she’s got attitude, we prefer character. Stick to your guns, Rui En. Why join them when you can beat them?

本地演艺圈刮起一阵改名风潮，你是不是也被艺人们的新旧名字搞得有点乱了呢？

事实上，艺人改名已不是什么新鲜事。有些艺人为了增加人气这么做，有些为了健康，也有些纯粹觉得新艺名更好听、更亲切。

不过，改名是否真的就能够改运吗？

xinmsn盘点改过名字的本地艺人，有谁改名后演艺表现突飞猛进，又有谁星途始终不见起色？

瑞恩2002年出道时，公司替她取了艺名芮恩。她曾以芮恩之名发行了一张同名专辑，但在乐坛表现平平，之后却在本地电视圈闯出一片天。其冰冷公主的鲜明形象，让她在一众公主花旦中出位。

2008年，累积了一定演技与人气的她，宣布改用自己的本名瑞恩，并再度发行中文专辑。

瑞恩当时表示，一直以来自己好像穿着不合身的外套，这次改用本名，有着将最真实的瑞恩呈现在观众与粉丝面前的意义。

有趣的是，瑞恩的运势似乎随着改名，有了明显的进步。2011年，她凭《我在你左右》夺得“最佳女主角”；2年后，再度以《最火搭档II》拿下此奖。

同时，瑞恩的粉丝团“瑞不可当”也是本地粉丝俱乐部当中规模最庞大的之一，举凡任何投票有关活动，粉丝都会铆足全力为偶像投票，瑞恩也几乎每每都榜上有名！

现代人时间宝贵，顾得了工作就顾不了家庭、顾得了家庭又顾不了朋友。难得剩下的宝贵时间，当然不能浪费在不值一看的电影、电视节目上。有鉴于此，推出自家分级专栏，为大家提点意见，看看本地影视作品中，那些值得观赏、那些看了等于浪费人生的宝贵岁月。

而本周，要接受分级的便是上周刚上画的《骤变》！

瑞恩演自己

卖点： 所谓“凡有瑞恩，必是大戏”，如果你是标准电视迷，当然不能错过。

看点： 电视台闹阿哥荒已久，陈罗密欧、张震寰谁能随剧上位？

评语： 电视台真的厚爱瑞恩，这边才刚播完《志在四方》，那边在午后重播《花样人间》，现在，晚间黄金档又来了瑞恩的《骤变》。看来瑞恩成为新阿姐已经是封印的事实。但一个演员用得如此频密，真的受得起考验吗？

看了前面几集的《骤变》，瞬间还以为在看《最火搭档》或其它“瑞恩剧”。事关不管是什么剧，瑞恩的人物个性，造型都变化不大。当然这种有话直说、行事正大、外冷内热的角色她是演得很好，但如果演来演去都只是一个模式，或甚至只是在演“演员本人”，那又变得没有难度，兼戏路太窄了。看来，外传电视台人人怕瑞恩这件事不是讹传，每出剧的监制、故事人都不敢挑战她设下的限制，那观众也只好永远看同款瑞恩了。

既然阿姐已成“不变之数”，那还是来看变数不断的阿哥之位。李铭顺之后，电视台的阿哥一直不清不楚，便宜了陈汉玮、郑各评几位不老阿哥。但长江必须有后浪推。除了木头木脸的戚玉武、黄俊雄，观众也确实需要条件更好的偶像级阿哥来抚慰的。《骤变》一次性推出陈罗密欧、张震寰，到底两人能否有机会凭剧出位？以目前集数来看，陈罗密欧蓄小胡子演出有行有款的律师，虽坐轮椅还是比张震寰出色，可惜戏味未出，希望随着剧情发展，能有更好表现。

惊喜度：8/10

拍摄、剪辑手法与电视台以往保守作风有明显分别，使剧情较流畅、不拖拉。乍看之下以为又是外制节目，算是有进部。剧中也看见不少半息影资深演员，加分！

惊吓度：5/10

既然摆明是悬疑剧，编剧应该下多点功夫，加强故事设计，而不是取巧靠“巧合”破案。

《最火搭档2》：连串凶杀案扑朔迷离

这部由新传媒制作的20集电视剧在本地果然真的很“火”，有许多忠实粉丝，平均收视超过81万。该剧以一连串凶杀案贯穿整部戏，剧情扑朔迷离。第二系列讲述在日本隐姓埋名的阿修罗抱着复仇的决心回到新加坡，女警小曼（瑞恩饰）和雨泽（郑斌辉饰）携手一起领队参与调查行动，但是他们各自却藏着一些不为人知的秘密。

《最火》第一系列在2010年开播，深受观众喜爱，去年3月电视台决定紧追第二系列，成为新加坡少有续集的连续剧之一。瑞恩为了逮捕几起凶杀案的幕后黑手方教授，与心理医生高婕妤（林慧玲饰）反目，两人在结局中两败俱伤。不过有趣的是《最2》并没有一个完整的大结局，让许多观众猜测新传媒计划拍摄第三系列。

冰公主瑞恩凭此剧在去年荣获亚洲电视大奖最佳女主角，击败入围同一奖项的郭舒贤、白薇秀和杨雁雁。缺席颁奖礼的瑞恩当时受访时表示，对得视后感到惊讶，也遗憾自己因拍戏无法出席颁奖礼。性格直率的她说：“我拍《最火2》时非常投入，甚至一度出现抑郁状况，这次得到认可觉得很高兴。”谈到缺席的原因，她笑说，开工拍戏时候会像个老人，尽量争取睡眠，因此宣布获奖时，她已累得呼呼大睡，结果一早醒来才发现电话邮箱被恭贺简讯挤爆。

除了亚洲电视大奖外，瑞恩也凭《最火2》获得了今年红星大奖最佳女主角，郑斌辉获得了最佳男配角。夺得视后的瑞恩在台上特别感谢圈中唯一的“最火搭档”陈莉萍，给她好戏擦出火花。

It comes as a surprise when actress Rui En says some of her favourite bags are brand-less canvas totes, and that she used to be a tomboy who hated dresses.

After all, the 32-year-old was dressed in a flattering and slinky Grecian-style toga dress for this interview and photoshoot.

And who can forget the beautiful plum Christian Dior tulle gown she wore at the Star Awards show in April, where she won her second Best Actress award. She also won that night for Favourite Female Character and Top 10 Most Popular Artistes.

“It was an Academy Awards-ready gown, I chose it just three weeks before the event, and I looked forward to wearing it.”

“It was ‘princessy’ but the dark colour made it classic and ‘me’.”

She admits she could have handled the dress more elegantly that night. She had seemed exasperated at times when she had difficulty moving about in the gown.

“It was lightweight but there were so many layers of fabric and I was kind of wrestling with it,” she says.

“But I promise I will get better at this.”

This disarming honesty and lack of pretension, on top of her pretty girl-next-door looks and acting chops, have won Rui En fans, as well as the attention of marketers.

In May, she was named one of the faces of the L’Oreal Paris Youth Code skincare range. She joins a roll call of A-list international celebrities, such as Gong Li, Li Bingbing and Fan Bingbing, who also front the range of skincare.

The ambassadorship is apt as Rui En is a self-professed beauty junkie. She loves trying new skincare products and make-up and uses a different mask every night on her dry and intolerant skin.

To keep healthy and give her face that extra glow, she works out religiously with home videos. And every morning, she downs green detox drinks made from recipes she found on the Internet.

Rui En started her career in show business when she was 20. But the industry started to take serious notice of her only in 2011 when she won her first Best Actress trophy at the Star Awards that year for her role as a widow in the drama serial With You.

Rui En says the nomination in 2011 made her pay more attention to her clothes.

“It was the first time I had to dress up properly for an event and I had so many choices. I felt very lucky but confused too.”

“My sense of style was not set then, so it was just a whirlwind of trying on all sorts of outfits and just seeing what worked for my image.”

In the end, she picked a steel grey Hermes pantsuit, with a black belt tied stylishly and provocatively around her neck.

These days, she knows instinctively what she likes: “Nothing revealing, but classic, simple, clean and accessorised with diamonds.”

7 things in her bag

1. Soul by Ludacris headphones

This was a Christmas present I received last year. Its sound quality is good and it blocks out noise. I love music, and listen to everything from country to K-pop. When I’m travelling, I’ll plug into this and be in my own world.

2. Museli bars

I eat these when I am shooting and have to be constantly on the go. They are quite sweet and taste good, and they keep me from bingeing on the unhealthy stuff.

3. L’Oreal Youth Code prodigious rejuvenating pre-essence

I apply this essence on my bare skin and it helps everything else that I use later, such as serums and moisturisers, to be more easily absorbed.

4. Insect Repellent

This is an insect repellent soldiers use; I bought it from the army market in Beach Road. It is a must whenever I’m filming outdoors. It does not smell but is so potent that it is not safe to be applied on the skin. I apply it on the hem of my clothing instead and the mosquitoes do not come near me.

5. Memoirs of a radical lawyer by Michael Mansfield

I’m currently reading this for research purposes as I play a lawyer in the upcoming Chinese legal drama Sudden. Whenever I take on a new role, I will read about the character’s occupation as it helps me with my acting.

6. Creative electronic chinese dictionary

A friend gave this to me as a birthday present two or three years ago. It tells me how to pronounce Chinese words I’m unfamiliar with and their meanings.

7. Scripts

I feel naked without my scripts. This is for Sudden, which I am currently working on and which airs in September on MediaCorp Channel 8. I prefer physical copies because I can make notes in the margin.

Her bag

A fan gave this to me. I own about 20 to 30 canvas tote bags. I carry them around when I am filming or not working. For designer bags, my favourite is the Balenciaga Motorcycle bag because it is very versatile.

We check out the biggest names in showbiz who have lit up a screen together

Two is better than one, especially if “one” already stands pretty strong on its own. We’re talking about dream team silver/small screen pairings of the hottest A-listers in showbiz, from MediaCorp Princesses Jeanette Aw and Rui En in The Dream Makers, to martial arts movie royalty Jackie Chan and Jet Li in The Forbidden Kingdom.

Rui En & Jeanette Aw (The Dream Makers)

They’ve both been in the business for over a decade (and are both under Artiste Networks ) , but The Dream Makers is the first time they’ve ever worked together. “It was really cool,” Rui En told us of the collaboration. “We work very well together!”

Jeanette concurs. “We both know what we want from a scene, and both know what we’re doing with our characters. I don’t have to worry that she won’t be able to react with me,” she said at the drama’s press conference last Tuesday.

Besides that, they’ve become more familiar with each other, something they never really got to do before. “We’ve had to spend a lot of time together, and now we’re more of friends,” said Rui En.

So shall we look forward to more collaborations in the future then? “I’m open to any opportunities to work with Rui En again,” said Jeanette.

Chemistry level: We guess we’ll find out when The Dream Makers premieres on June 24 at 9pm on Ch8, but we are definitely harbouring high hopes for this pairing!

Rui En & Chen Liping (Unriddle)

Rui En and Liping have become close pals and one of the most beloved duos in local showbiz since Unriddle. Liping was credited as the one who could melt the stoic Ice Queen’s heart, as displayed by the latter’s cheeriness during their first interview with us as co-stars – a contrast from her usual more reserved demeanour.

“She’s the most generous artiste I’ve ever worked with,” Rui En praised. “She has a really infectious laugh too, which in turn makes me laugh as well!”

During the Dream Makers press conference, the typically calm and collected Rui En was even seen giggling and lightly hitting Liping’s arm on stage, proving that their camaraderie was more than just a phase.

Chemistry level: Four dramas on, and their friendship and on-screen harmony is stronger than ever.

The Dream Makers 志在四方 debuts 24 June 2013 9pm on Channel 8.

今年再度成为红星大奖[视后]的瑞恩，接受本报记者专访时，承认以前很自卑，常自问为什么那么[男人婆]，直到近年心境比较平静，她[不想跟自己打架了。]瑞恩终于接受自己，也了解女人有自信，就是美丽的。

有“冰山公主”封号的新传媒花旦瑞恩在荧幕上的形象总是酷酷的，不苟言笑，私底下她却相当平易近人。拍照当天，艳阳高照，天气炎热，当摄影师要求到户外的顶楼拍照，她并没有拒绝，拍照时还脱下高跟鞋，赤脚走路摆pose，敬业态度让人印象深刻。

瑞恩相隔4年后最近再接广告，与法国化妆品牌L’Oreal合作，和巩俐、李冰冰和范冰冰等国际女性一同成为Youth Code护肤品代言人。

不想说谎，推掉不少广告

过去几年，瑞恩虽然在本地戏剧收视率有相当号召力，奇怪的是她却几乎没有什么广告代言。和瑞恩进行专访时，记者问她原因何在，她坦诚在过去4年的确推掉了不少广告机会，因为自己“不想说谎，为没有把握的产品代言。”

瑞恩透露在L’Oreal推出相关产品时，她曾买来用，发现效果很好，所以当对方要找她代言时，瑞恩感觉彼此有一种缘分。她说：“厂商也非常有诚意，会特地了解我对护肤的看法，尽量把我的意见融入宣传。”

能接纳自己的女人‘最美’

能代言国际化妆产品不是美丽女星就是名模，瑞恩是否觉得自己已经挤入“美女俱乐部”呢？

她坦言不觉得自己美丽：“以前我会认为自己和韩星相差很远，感到很自卑，一直问自己为什么那么男人婆，心里很挣扎。直到三四年前，我的心境变得比较平静，不想跟自己打架了。我终于接受自己，全世界只有一个瑞恩，我是独一无二的。只有女人有自信没，能接纳自己的一切，她就是美丽的。”直爽和酷酷的语气，道尽她近几年的蜕变。

难怪这几年瑞恩出席红星大奖，选择的礼服比较有女人味。对此，她说：“可能我已经长大了。我20多岁时不喜欢太小女生的东西，现在我会在适合场合扮美，因为没有理由不穿戴这些服饰。不过，喜欢穿短裤和拖鞋的瑞恩依然存在。”

贸然赴台发展，事业最低潮

入行13年，瑞恩出过两张专辑，曾和周杰伦拍过MV，8次获红星“十大最受欢迎女艺人”奖，两次获红星“最佳女主角”奖，交出了漂亮的事业成绩单。

问瑞恩演艺事业最低潮是什么时候，她想了一想平静回答：“应该是我出第一张专辑的时候。我当时没有准备好，加上中文不行，就到台湾发展。我对当地娱乐圈一无所知，好像跳进大海，被水淹着，喘不过气又捉不到东西。”

她坦言从台湾回国后，自己患上忧郁症，情绪很不好，过了一段很长的时间后，才慢慢走出谷底。

访问前，记者准备了一些“大胆”的敏感问题，本以为瑞恩会拒绝回答，不料她却问无不答。

证明不用扮性感，也能成功

曾有记者批评她戏路偏窄，所演的角色大多数都是有个性的冷角色，而且她不碰亲热戏，限制演出空间，造成角色容易重复。针对这些批评，瑞恩脸上没有不悦，冷静回应：“我在《我在你左右》饰演一个哭哭啼啼的寡妇，在《乐在双城》饰演一个拜金女，这些角色和《最火搭档2》不一样。我觉得那些报道有点主观，不能代表很多人的认同。

“至于不接亲热戏，我因此付出代价了。我推掉非常多的机会，甚至放弃接演一些区域性的制作，之前新传媒也不让我演一些重要角色，所有的监制都认为我难搞，不过后来还是证明本地观众是成熟的，我不用扮性感露肉也能成功。我认为不适合的戏就不要拍，这和产品代言一样，加入没有百分百的把握，就不要耽误制作过程。”

记者问瑞恩想尝试什么角色，她微笑说：“我想尝试喜剧。其实我对那些没演过的角色都感兴趣。假如有一天叫我演大婶或妈妈，我也能接受，因为这是女人一个自然的成长过程，是另一个阶段和心态。我愿意去揣摩这类角色。”

自认生活闷，不怕被爆料

众所周知，瑞恩有一批非常支持她的粉丝，一旦出现关于她的负面报道，这些粉丝便会在网上发声明或写信投诉。对于粉丝的举动，瑞恩说：“我很感激他们的支持。他们看到不公平的报道当然会生气，想为我打抱不平，我可以理解他们的出发点。我无法控制他们的行为，不过我希望他们会有分寸。”

身为公众人物，瑞恩是如何保持隐私呢？瑞恩直言不觉得保持隐私很困难，她活得很自在舒服，因为自认生活很闷，没有什么精彩的东西可以让媒体去挖掘：“我不喜欢掩饰自己，无聊时脸一黑就曾被人讲过，因为我真的装不出来。很多人说我不适合演艺圈，不过我认为这圈子需要各种各样的艺人，大家应该用开放的态度包容一切。

“我的生活很无趣，媒体没有什么料好爆，所以应该说，我适合当艺人。” 言毕，她脸上泛出一丝浅浅笑容。
