其中，今年”十大最受欢迎男女艺人”竞争异常激烈，入围名单中出现不少新面孔，包括戴阳天、洪赐健、李心钰、蔡佩璇，也有卷土重来的陈泓宇、许振荣、曹国辉和周崇庆。

It’s the time of the year again where Caldecott Hill’s artistes are lined-up and ranked against each other like a High School popularity contest. From the popular ‘it’ crowd, to the mediocre folks, and of course, the underdogs.

In the second installment of our three-part Star Awards winners’ prediction stories for Caldecott Hill’s glitziest event of the year, we turn to our trusty crystal ball, yet again, for some hint on the obvious shoo-ins and promising dark horses in the Top 20 Male and Female Most Popular Artistes awards at the upcoming Star Awards Show 2 this Sunday.

Judging by forces of nature, and by that we mean size of fan base and mass appeal, we easily identify the shoo-in winners of this award category. It’s a no-brainer, folks. Like High School footballers and cheerleaders, these studs and princesses encompass the entire package: charming, good-looking, winning personalities… Plus we figured, a loyal following of fans completes the winning formula.

The Top 20 Most Popular Male and Female Artiste Award is a voting game driven by the masses, reinforced by 50% public surveys, and semi-ruled by a simple mechanism, the voting hotline.

Popularity always works and hard work prevails, but don’t forget, there will always be the omnipresence of unexpected underdogs. What’s an awards ceremony without some spice and excitement?

With the seven princesses now whittled down to the formidable four, there’s no showing in weaker star power or lost of appeal amongst fans.

The trio’s (Jeanette, Felicia, and Rui En) ardent fans put on such a strong resistance against fellow competitors during voting of Most Favourite Female Character (in the Star Awards Show 1) and took up three out of the coveted five final spots. A legion of fans? You betcha. Guaranteed spots? No doubt about it.

As for the newly-crowned media darling, Joanne, she has got the best of both worlds — fans and media — on her side. Coupled with her current exposure on the 7pm slot in the ongoing megadrama series Your Hand In Mine, she’s a sure shoo-in at this Sunday’s awards ceremony.

We saw it coming the moment she received her Media Darling accolade. You see, it’s obvious that the media-savvy actress Joanne Peh isn’t just well-liked by the media; her ardent fans have been busy, it seems, letting their fingers do the talking ever since the last year’s Best Actress was shockingly dropped out in the earlier round of Top 10 leading female artistes votes.

And this, at the expense of actress Jesseca Liu, who’s regrettably booted out in what was to be her last Star Awards nomination this year – the Malaysian beauty is leaving the industry once her contract runs out in May.

Jeanette Aw’s genteel, steely and headstrong character, Yao Jianhong, from megadrama series, Together, proved to be no pushover to Rui En’s legion of fans, Felicia Chin’s threatening triple nomination (Sun Min in The Ultimatum, Apple Hong in Baby Bonus, and Tao Haitong in Love Blossoms II) and Aunty Lucy’s effervescent “so embarrassing” personality.

Although fellow competitor Felicia Chin could not be reached for a comment at press time, Rui En was all cool and smiles on Jeanette’s win as she said, “I’m really okay with it. I expected Jeanette to win earlier on.”

This Sunday’s Star Awards 2010 Show 1 will see close to 200 drama and variety characters slug it out for the year’s Favourite Male and Female Characters awards, to be decided by…

Public voting.

Oh well, we don’t have to say out loud who we reckon are going to nick it but we, at xinmsn will play ‘experts’ and look into our crystal ball to round up the probable stars who [we think] will walk home with a triumphant joy.

In this opener, we’ll make our guesses for this year’s new awards, including the oh-so-evil Most Unforgettable TV Villain, the Media Darlings, and the Rocket Award.

The equation is simple: a shoo-in, and the one likeliest to steal that prize away.

C’mon, cut us some slack. This is the wild, wild world of entertainment after all.

We are probably more certain about this one, even if the public might not agree.

Yes, Jeanette Aw, Felicia Chin and even the über-cool Rui En count countless as fans, but Princess Joanne Peh leads the pack in the PR department.
