RBKD: Rui En feels that her character in Against The Tide is one of the most challenging roles she has taken on. She choose to be subtle as she felt there is a tendency of over acting for evil roles. When asked on the possibility of her returning to Mandopop scene, Rui En answered that she is open to it and would love to work with Rihanna.

瑞恩七不成事

冷若冰霜，高不可攀，这是许多人给瑞恩贴上的标签。不过正确来说，瑞恩并不冷，而是慢热。俊强认为，只要找对话题，瑞恩其实可以很健谈，而且还很温柔。

一不：不介意黑暗

拍《女友》封面，已成为瑞恩一年一度的平面媒体重头戏。

有整整一年没有看到瑞恩示范新装，这一回她更“开放”。当摄影师Wee Khim叫穿上短裙的她坐在地上搔首弄姿，瑞恩也毫不埋怨，乐意在镜头面前耍酷。

“我其实很喜欢拍时尚杂志。记得小时候，妈妈总会买美国版的《Vogue》，我每一期都不错过，看到喜欢的服装彩页就撕下来收藏。一直到现在，我还有经常翻看时尚杂志的习惯。最近看了《W》，很喜欢一辑吸血鬼的时装照，很edgy。我其实很偏爱黑暗和gothic的style。可惜本地市场比较保守，希望有一天可以尝试。”

《女友》这一期的封面照，造型师Johnny也尽量让瑞恩跳出框框。不过要公主“黑头黑脸”示众，会否担心粉丝接受不来？瑞恩笑说：“他们看惯了我漂亮美丽的模样，是时候变一变花样了。”

二不：不遗余力行善

谈到粉丝，瑞恩拥有一个永志不渝的后援会“瑞不可当”。不管是网络投选还是电话投票，只要是和偶像有关的活动，他们一定全力以赴。“他们其实很可爱，但有时也很‘奇怪’！”因为粉丝看到她本尊，竟然热不起来。“每次参加粉丝聚会，他们看到我总是紧紧张张的，我知道他们内心很兴奋，却没有表现出来，最后搞到我要来暖场自己当主持人，哈哈！”

对粉丝们的努力，瑞恩心存感激。接下来她希望粉丝能将精力花在慈善，和她一起献爱心。“我知道他们都很尽心尽力在各个奖项支持我。不过我告诉他们，与其花钱打电话，不如做善事。”今年的新年佳节，瑞恩就和粉丝一起行善，为不幸人士送年货。“我最近在跟会长安排，看看可否定期为慈善机构做善事。”

偶像落力为善，相信瑞恩的粉丝也会效仿为社会尽一分力。

三不：不敢当主持

我对瑞恩说，前阵子放假，一口气把《志在四方》“褒”完。她立刻问我：“好看吗？我最近一直在问记者的意见。”

告诉她，我喜欢那个没有在电视上播出的结局。不是戚玉武扮演的Jason选择了欧萱饰演的赵非儿，而是Jason谁也不选，继续留在国外寻梦。“我觉得如果播放第二个结局，观众应该不会开心。毕竟他们喜欢圆满的结局。如果给我选，我也会和你一样。”瑞恩说。

《志在四方》好评如潮，缔造好口碑，给电视台台前幕后人员打了一支强心针。“现在的电视观众有太多选择了，所以越来越难做。收到好的评语是很令人感到鼓舞的。我们需要鼓励，尤其是工作人员。”

那几个月“疯疯癫癫”的日子是瑞恩最开心的一段时间。“每天都期待上班，到了片场心情就很开朗，感觉不是在工作。打从一知道要演方彤琳这个角色，我就一直很雀跃，所以演的时候就豁出去，很没形象地去玩去闹。你知道吗，我其实希望开拍续集，我很希望演回彤琳！”

在剧中彤琳从幕后导播变成综艺主持人。看瑞恩在戏中“主持”现场节目喜感还不错。她会否考虑跨界当主持人？瑞恩立刻哈哈大笑，头一直摇。“我这个人很奇怪的，拍戏时尽量去演，一定把角色演得真实。记得拍主持节目那几场戏，在镜头前我还想过，其实当主持还蛮okçš„……不过想归想，如果要以瑞恩的身份去主持节目，我想我会很尴尬。我私下是没有什么东西讲的，大家一定会觉得我很闷！”

几年前瑞恩有小小“跨界”录制旅游节目，不过她觉得“怪怪的”。所以要看她在台上叫观众玩游戏，我想不可能。

四不：对不上李铭顺

近作《骤变》里，瑞恩回归熟悉的专业人士领域，是一名讲话尖锐爱拐外弯角的律师。“背台词的压力很大，尤其是站在很多人面前讲一大段专业名词，很考功力。还好之前演过警察，讲过很多技术性对白，所以懂得怎么处理，反而是感情戏不容易揣摩。”

瑞恩和陈罗密欧第一次搭档演情侣，而且是感情稳定的恋人。她对这位新轧小生评价如何？“众多新人中，他的态度最好。刚开始时他难免紧张，我尽量让他放松，让他舒服。”

在电视圈这些年，瑞恩几乎与所有新传媒小生交过手，包括很久没合作的荧幕情人黄俊雄、戚玉武、李南星、郑斌辉、陈汉玮、陈泓宇……唯独李铭顺。瑞恩一直和他无缘。“入行这么多年，我从来没跟李铭顺演过戏。我一直在等待这个机会。”

瑞恩喜欢和成熟的男对手合作，一来他们经验丰富，和他们对戏不用太多沟通，一拍起来就很有默契。“和资深演员合作可以学到很多东西，有机会用不同角度看事情。”

五不：不主动争取机会

第一次访问瑞恩，刚好在十年前。2002年，她以“芮恩”之名进军台湾，成为周杰伦的师妹，并当上他的主打歌《暗号》MV的女主角。隔年在台湾推出《白色羽毛》专辑，那次和她首次通电话，竟然是用英语交谈。

“读书时我很讨厌华文，几乎没有及格过，我的华文老师都很讨厌我。现在他们看到我用华文演戏，应该会取笑我吧。”

回想台湾打拼那段苦日子，瑞恩充满感慨。“我常讲，为什么我变成一个喜欢做功课的艺人，就是因为当年到台湾发片前没做好准备，结果跳进大海，差一点淹死！我很佩服自己，一个不会讲华语的人，竟然敢敢跑去台湾发片。所以我告诉自己，一定要做功课，随时随地准备好自己。”

和一些艺人不同，瑞恩求学时从来没发过明星梦。当年当兼职模特，纯粹为了赚钱，没想到阴差阳错踏入演艺圈。“我的人是这样的，机会一来就会把握，可我不会伸手去争取。刚好机会来到，我就尝试咯。”

就像近年来，不少本地艺人出走到中国找机会，瑞恩却不为所动，安守狮城。“很多人都不知道，新加坡的娱乐圈环境比较单纯。在那边的娱乐圈，女生是需要付出代价的。如果要这样牺牲自己，我宁可不要这个机会。”像瑞恩这样“守身如玉”的女艺人，不知有几个？

六不：不否认欣赏王家卫

瑞恩不是没有进取心，只要是新鲜，没尝试过的工作，她都乐意挑战。不过她就是很被动。比如说拍电影，许多艺人趋之若鹜，瑞恩却坚持原则，没有好剧本和好角色就不拍。“不是我挑剔，我不会为了做而做。我倒是比较想花时间创作剧本，希望可以朝导演方向发展。”

这一点瑞恩和方彤琳的确有点相似。不知道王家卫是不是瑞恩的头号偶像？她笑得特别大声。“我是欣赏王家卫的，不过我没有像方彤琳那么痴狂！我是电影发烧友，看电影时会注意导演的取景和拍摄角度。我在诠释角色时也爱加盐添醋，把看电影的想法和灵感加入角色，使它更丰富。”王家卫近作《一代宗师》，瑞恩就买票捧场两次。“不愧是大师，对白写得很精彩，虽然很深奥。”

身为电影发烧友，瑞恩来者不拒，什么类型的电影都看。“我常常拉朋友去看一些莫名其妙的电影，之后他们就会骂我。跟我做朋友，就要忍受我的‘职业病’。”

让瑞恩着迷的除了王家卫，还有法国导演Jean-Pierre Jeunet和奥斯卡影后Marion Cotillard。“我是看了《Amélie》后爱上这个导演。之后的《A Very Long Engagement》镜头运用得太美了，是我心头之爱。Marion Cotillard则是我一路以来的偶像，她演什么像什么。法国电影制作认真，演员演技精湛。可惜本地戏院不常放映，我只有在搭飞机时才有机会看。”

原来瑞恩小时候就开始“崇洋”了。瑞恩当年学法文，是觉得法国话听起来在唱歌，很好听。“我自己跑去法国文化学会Alliance Francaise报名上课，开始觉得有趣，后来越念越难，最后就逃学放弃了，唉！”

七不：不鼓励整形

谈到法国，当地知名品牌L’Oreal就来敲门，要瑞恩代言护肤品。她第一个感觉是受宠若惊。“我小时候是男人婆，中学时期总是嫌自己不够美，为什么不能像校内其它美女那样有女人味？”

这种想法持续了很久，直到入行当上演员，瑞恩还是很自卑。“最近才相通，为什么要这样‘折磨’自己？为什么不能接纳自己？我又不是韩星，不是标致美女，我就是我。所以当厂商找我，我当然很开心啦！”

近年来韩流兴起，女生不满意自己的长相，纷纷去整形。这个趋向，瑞恩不赞同。“很多年轻女生觉得，要改变自己的样子才是完美的，我觉得是错误的。你可以‘做’到很美，但你未必感觉很美，为什么要改变自己的样子？”

谈到老化，瑞恩更是一笑置之。“我不怕老，反而期待自己慢慢变成熟。现在的我比以前更能接受自己，也能放下很多事情。我想是自己成熟了。”

顿了顿，她作出一个懊恼的表情。“我不懂为什么现在的社会那么抗拒老化。尤其是女生，‘老’简直像是一个粗话。我真的不明白，随着年纪变大，你整个人越来越成熟，这不好吗？”

32岁的瑞恩，已慢慢做好准备，优雅地老去。你，也会跟随她吗？

Under Cover: Rui En

According to NYLON’s DNA, we’re supposed to transform people – but how does one transform the resident ice queen of Caldecott Hill? We thought, let’s make her fiercer. Out came the spiked boots, studded stillettos and of course, makeup to match. Going in a completely opposite direction from her character in her new drama, “Joys of Life”, where she plays a domestically-inclined daughter of a low-income family, we gave her a dramatic, winged out cat-eye and piled on eyeshadow for depth. What we found odd was that, despite her rumoured frosty demeanor, she turned out to be an absolute joy to work with. We’re fans.

The Naked Truth

But perhaps there’s kind of an apt wisdom behind the idea of “lux veritas” (an elementary translation: the light of the truth), which Rui En’s fan club has incorporated into their slogan. Indeed, a celebration of a decade-long career premised on making goggle box artifice believeable veritably demands a spotlight on the reality behind the channel 8 television images – who is the real Rui En?

Singer-actress Rui En looks back at her days as an undergraduate at the Nanyang Business School

Rui En was at the iconic School of Art, Design & Media building to shoot the MediaCorp series, The In-Laws. She took time out of her hectic filming schedule to grant Hey! this interview.

She shot to fame as the iconic “running girl” in a SingTel hi!Card advertisement, and real life almost mirrored reel life for actress Rui En given that she came close to running away from school during her time as an undergraduate.

Indeed, if not for the help she received from some “angels” in her life, the Nanyang Business School Class of 2004 alumnus may perhaps not have graduated from NTU with a Bachelor of Business degree.

Back then, on the cusp of making the breakthrough she needed in the hugely-competitive media industry, she found it hard to juggle her work and studies. To top it off, she had to make regular trips to Taiwan to produce her debut music album, Rui Σn vol. 01.

All this led to her wanting to throw in the towel, studies-wise. Says the 30-year-old: “I’ll be really honest, there were times when I wanted to give up but I was persuaded not to by some angels in my life. I am so glad I persisted.”

“I guess it was the fact that I had already started. After a while, I figured I had to finish it no matter how tough it was.”

Perhaps this line sums up Rui En’s character as a fighter. In an interview she gave in 2008, she had talked about her tumultuous growing-up years: her parents divorced when she was 17, and she also smoked and drank from a young age to look “cool” and fit in. Asked why she agreed to such a soul-baring interview, she had said:”I am hoping that kids who read this might realise that no matter how bad your family situation is, you have a choice not to be a victim.”

Back to the subject of school, she says that her last year in NTU was especially difficult because “I had to be in Taiwan a lot.”

Little wonder then that Rui En feels she owes a debt of gratitude to her final-year project group, whom she says helped her greatly. “If I were in their position then, I would have been quite mad. But they were so accommodating and understanding.”

“I really want to thank them for their help, and still feel very grateful towards them today.”

The one with the baseball cap

Rui En kept a low profile in university. One former lecturer, Assoc Prof Joan C Henderson, remembers her as being quiet in class, and also describes the star as “nearly always sporting a baseball cap”.

During the interview, she comes across as engaging and sincere. Maybe this is why the actress has over the years been consistently voted one of the Top 10 Favourite Female Artistes at the local Star Awards. At this year’s Awards, she went one better by clinching her first Best Actress award for her role in the Channel 8 drama With You.

Her achievements also saw her recognised by the university in 2007 when she became a recipient of the Nanyang Outstanding Young Alumni Award, something she feels both “surprised and grateful” about.

Still, Rui En says that just being able to do something she loves on a daily basis is “enough of a prize”.

So, what advice would she give NTU freshmen who want to pursue their passions, be it sports, community service or acting, while studying? She says:”I get a lot of comments like, ‘Oh, you are still in this line?'”

“But I would say that you shouldn’t bother about what people think. Have the courage to pursue your dreams and to go through the difficult times.”

曾修读”银行业与金融管理”的瑞恩，曾出版专辑《芮恩RuIen》、《芮恩RuiEn同名专辑》，专辑完整地收录了瑞恩出道至今的心情点滴，及对人与事各式各样的想法，她也曾在专辑中亲自写了8首歌词，微妙且带点另类的文字充满著这位新新女生新鲜自主的想法。

瑞恩拍摄过的电视剧也很多，像《不凡的爱》、《书包太重》、《最火搭档》、《吃吃面包谈谈情》、《二分之一缘份》、《法医X档案II》、《爱情零度C》、《宝家卫国》、《破茧而出》和《过好年》等等；也多次获观众投选为”十大最受欢迎女艺人”。

瑞恩还曾担任周杰伦《八度空间》中《暗号》里头的MV女主角，她曾经是 ‘J女郎’ 之一。

　周杰伦的个性害羞又腼腆，追女生的方式喜欢“打暗号”，他帮师妹芮恩量身订做唱片广告，自编自演一套追女生的剧情，展现杰伦式的“黑色幽默”！

　　芮恩是阿尔发唱片的新女声，经过周杰伦的强力背书，芮恩还没有正式出片，已经受到各界的瞩目。周杰伦先是带着芮恩合拍《暗号》的MV，他在手机广告之中，也找来芮恩一起演出，师兄妹先是“打暗号”，再来“大头贴”。

　　周杰伦的演唱会将于十二日移师香港开唱，在红磡一连演唱五场，目前他除了积极在为演唱会准备之外，投入很多时间在芮恩的专辑上面。

　　周杰伦帮芮恩写了一首《白色羽毛》，而芮恩的唱片广告，周杰伦也来帮忙。周杰伦在广告片中，担任广告创意、造型设计，还自编自演热情站台。周杰伦在广告片中，上演追女生的剧情，内容是他带着学弟、朋友共三个男生，在一家咖啡厅里看到芮恩，三个男生一直窃窃私语讨论，但是都不敢有所行动，等到最后离开时看清楚芮恩的长相，而且听到芮恩的歌之后，周杰伦才突然觉得芮恩很不错。周杰伦说：“这支广告是酷中带了一点神秘的调性，很能够把芮恩的特色表现出来。”
