The former freelance actor now has a permanent acting contract with MediaCorp that sees him working on only one drama a year.
And C.L.I.F. 2 is what he considers having a “good scriptâ€. The 20-episode series, which premieres on Channel 8 on Feb 18 at 9pm, is inspired by true crime files and filmed with actual police resources.
Starring A-listers such as Li Nanxing, Rui En, Qi Yuwu and Joanne Peh, it revolves around a group of Criminal Investigation Department and neighbourhood police centre officers.

Chinese New Year Celebrities’ Fortune 2013 – Female artistes edition
Compiled by: xinmsn Entertainment team
As we welcome the Year of the Snake on this first day of Chinese New Year, xinmsn invites Grand Master Tan Khoon Yong from Way OnNet Group Pte Ltd to predict eight local female artistes’ fortunes for 2013.
Will they welcome a lucky year, or face challenges in the year ahead? Click on to find out!
(Disclaimer: The artistes’ Eight Characters of Birth Time were not available for in-depth analysis. The following predictions are for reference purposes only.)
Rui En
Date of Birth: January 29, 1981
Chinese zodiac: Monkey
Following a busy schedule in the year of the Dragon, Rui En’s overall fortune in the Year of the Snake pales in comparison as the actress may be facing tough competition ahead of her.
The 32-year-old is advised against starting a love relationship this year, as she may face relationship problems. However, she is likely to meet an ideal partner two years later, in the year of goat.
It also predicted that Rui En lacks wealth luck this year and has to watch out for her health. She is advised to stay out of trouble and focus on developing her areas of interest such as acting. She is likely to achieve greater success if she focuses on things that she likes.

Getting to Know C.L.I.F. 2
The outstanding achievement of the C.L.I.F. drama serial in 2011 has led itself to the production of C.L.I.F. 2!
C.L.I.F. 2 is based on a composite of true crime files, revolving around the work of investigators from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Tanglin Police Division.
Police investigators fathom complex cases through their nimble minds, collective thinking, dedication and intuition, assisted by forensics and technology. They race against time to rescue lives and solve cold-blooded murders, all the while unyielding in their resolve to uphold the core values of the Singapore Police Force.
Before its debut on MediaCorp Channel 8 on 18 February 2013, familiarise yourself with the cast of C.L.I.F. 2!
Huang Zhijie
Rui En as Senior Station Inspector Huang Zhijie
Office-in-Charge Team C
Special Investigation Section
Criminal Investigation Department
Huang Zhijie went through a troubling childhood during which she saw her elder sister being abducted. Her sister was eventually murdered after being sexually assaulted. The culprits got away scot-free due to insufficient evidence, which scarred her.
Due to her experience as a child, Zhijie once lost faith in humanity. She studied psychology in school, she wanted to better understand human behaviour. This later pays off as she can emphatise with victims and communicate with them on a deeper level. Together with her resolve to uphold justice, she solves numerous cases.
Zhijie is close friends with police academy buddy Wei Lantian. The two develop a deeper relationship subconsciously.
She later meets a stumbling block when investigating a sexual assault and murder case, and has to learn to let go of things she cannot control. She leads Lantian and herself into trouble when she enters a battle of wits with the suspect.

Diary of the C.L.I.F. 2 Learning Journey
Before the cameras rolled for C.L.I.F. 2, the MediaCorp artistes went through a series of training sessions coordinated by the Singapore Police Force (SPF) to let them portray their characters realistically. Here are what they have to say about their experiences.
Rui En
The thing I was really enjoying and had a lot of interest in was the Police Defence Tactics…I never thought it was actually done that way – you would think it would take a lot of strength or a lot of brute force to be able to disable someone but actually it’s not. And I thought it was really clever.
Living the Drama
Need more of C.L.I.F. 2? Relive the moments by visiting the sites where the drama was filmed.
Forested area in Sembawang
Senior Station Inspector (SSI) Huang Zhijie (played by Rui En) investigated a gruesome case of a highly decomposed corpse in a forest.
In face, the recent season of Crimewatch featured a case that took place in this very same forest along Jalan Semilang on 11 April 2009. A taxi driver was killed during a robbery and his decomposed body was only discovered in this forest days later.
Forested area behind the Senior Police Officers’ Mess
In the forested area right behind this building, movie magic did its work and transformed the forest into a spine-chilling crime scene where SSI Huang and her team would bring the accused to reconstruct the crime scene.
Lim Chu Kang Jetty
Towards the end of the series, you can anticipate an adrenaline-pumped action sequence filmed at this scenic site located at the end of Lim Chu Kang road.
You may even spot the Police Coast Guard (PCG)’s PC-class boats berthed at PCG Lim Chu Kang base which is located next to the jetty. This base is one of the four PCG bases around the island, with three others in Loyang, Gul and Brani.

This is the moment you’ve all been waiting for – the release of the top and final five nominees in the acting categories for the annual Star Awards ceremony. Without further ado, find out who shone through their roles and performances to clinch a coveted spot in the nomination list.
For the actresses, two veterans – Cynthia Koh and Kym Ng – stood out with their impressive turns in Show Hand and It Takes Two. While this marks Cynthia’s third nomination in the Best Actress category after 2005’s Portrait of Home, this will be Kym’s first. Rebecca Lim also joins Kym as a first-time entrant for her stellar portrayal as a psychopath doctor in Unriddle 2.
The trio will be competing against former Best Actress winners Joanne Peh (Pillow Talk) and Rui En (Unriddle 2) for the coveted trophy this year.
Now that we’ve laid out the nominees in the acting categories, the next piece of news—we believe—should be of utmost interest to fans: the online categories.
Moving on to the ladies, fans of Kimberly Chia (Don’t Stop Believin’), Felicia Chin (Don’t Stop Believin’) Rebecca Lim (Poetic Justice), Rui En (Poetic Justice) and Ann Kok (It Takes Two), gear up and get ready – it’s going to be tough competition in the Favourite Female Character category.
The competition heats up in the Favourite Onscreen couple category. This year, we see a birth of new TV couplings running for the award – apart from the usual pairings of Chrisseca (Christopher Lee and Jesseca Liu in Game Plan) and Ruivin (Rui En and Elvin Ng in Unriddle 2).
Zheng Ge Ping and Ann Kok who endeared TV viewers with their unlikely pairing in It Takes Two, will be going up against bittersweet lovers Dai Yang Tian and Zhou Ying (for The Quarters), and Alien and Rui En’s onscreen union in Joys of Life.
A total of four awards (Favourite Male Character, Favourite Female Character, Favourite Onscreen Couple and Favourite Host award) will be decided via online voting on xinmsn which kicks off in two weeks’ time on Feb 21.

1. Deng Yilin – Kimberly Chia in Don’t Stop Believin’

We have been blessed.
They say donating & volunteering are acts of giving, but actually, we are the ones who have gained.
My members shared with me how much they have enjoyed the volunteering experience, that they have learnt so much from the elderly and how they were so inspired by them too.
For myself, it must be the people and the little moments.
That moment,
when you see the CNY deco from us last year,
still proudly displayed on the elderly’s doors.
That moment,
when the elderly folks remember us as the anonymous group,
who have been visiting them with CNY goodies yearly.
Words can’t describe the immense sense of satisfaction.
And my lovely volunteers, what more can I say.
No one knew Rui En was joining,
not my members,
not Xinmsn.
No one knew Xinmsn was joining,
not my members,
not Rui En.
Only I do,
but still,
they all came,
and that says a lot about them.
Thank you for liking this birthday gift, and cake.
Thank you for joining us, and completing the meaning of this project.
Thank you for enjoying this volunteering experience, with us.
And thank you, for the chance to share our blessings.
We have been blessed.

She schemes against her peers, she is prone to having feelings of intense jealousy and has a number of other huge character flaws.
Zhao Fei Er, Singapore actress Jeanette Aw’s character in the upcoming drama “The Dream Makers”, is a real piece of work.
“The Dream Makers” boasts a star-studded cast, including Chen Hanwei, Zoe Tay and Rui En, all three of whom will be working with Aw for the first time in a drama serial.
Aw expressed that she is looking forward to working with them, but lamented the fact that she will have relatively few scenes with screen veterans Chen and Tay.
“It’s such a pity though, because it’s a huge cast, it’s impossible to have scenes with everybody,” said Aw.
