RBKD: The Journey: Our Homeland, the third and last instalment of The Journey trilogy sees the addition of Rui En, who plays the love interest of Shaun Chen’s character, Zhang Jia. “Yang Meixue is a new character. She has no links to the characters of the previous season,†said Rui En. She adds that this role grew on her as filming progressed and she felt Meixue is a good representative of the women of that era by juggling the demands of her work as a nurse with her familial duties.
The Journey: Our Homeland debuts 16 July 2015, 9pm on Channel 8.

RBKD: Rui En will reprise her role as producer-turned-actress Fang Tong Lin in upcoming series, The Dream Makers 2. During a recent imaging session, she revealed that there will be a lot more “dramatic things happening in the show”, where her character will experience something tragic while going through the process of wanting to get married and settling down.
Rui En hopes to approach this character in a different manner, and bring “a new sense of maturity” to it.
The Dream Makers 2 志在四方 2 debuts 03 December 2015, 9pm on Channel 8.

RBKD: When asked about what surprised them most, Shane Pow (one of the two hosts of new Channel 8 programme – Getai Challenge), commented that the fans of Getai singers are very hardcore.
Shane thinks that if he can ask them to join his fan club, he is confident that he will be able to trump RBKD.

RBKD: Rui En steps into the shoes of pioneer artist Georgette Chen for her first documentary-drama, The Worlds Of Georgette Chen, a three-part docudrama collaboration between Channenewsasia and National Gallery Singapore.
This role is one which few identify with the actress — art. While filming in Paris, a self-portrait of a certain Vincent van Gogh changed her view of art. “It’s so different when you see it in person because the thing that stood out were his eyes. I could actually feel that he was a tortured soul. It just basically changed everything for me — all my opinions about art being hifalutin, about being intimidated by art, just flew out the window because it was just a human connection,†Rui En told TODAY.
Rui En hoped that with her role as Georgette Chen, she could help spread an appreciation of art to people who wouldn’t necessarily be inclined towards it. “I felt, beyond the glamour, beyond all the Star Awards and the trappings of celebrity, there are certain things that you could do to make a positive change to society or individuals,†she said. “I felt this was one of those — to bring heartlanders and younger children to just take some tentative baby steps to not be intimidated by art.â€
One of the challenges of doing this docu-drama was dealing with issues of accuracy and Rui En felt “a little bit of pressure†in playing this historical figure as there was not much footage to base her performance on.
The Worlds of Georgette Chen debuts 29 April 2015 on CNA, 8pm.
