In a way, Constance Song is replacing herself in the new Channel 8 legal drama Sudden.

She was reported to be the one replacing MediaCorp actress Pan Ling Ling, who dropped out of her role as a lawyer due to health problems.

However, at a press event on Monday, Song said she was actually approached by the production team about two months ago. “They called me to ask me about this role, but I couldn’t commit at that point because I was constantly travelling for work,” she said.

This drama also stars Romeo Tan, Rui En, Rebecca Lim and Ian Fang.

Sudden 骤变 debuts 2 September 2013 9pm on Channel 8.

Traditional drama heroines are usually likeable, long-suffering characters that sacrifice themselves for others.

But Singapore actress Rui En, who plays the accomplished lawyer Cheng Chu Ning in the upcoming legal drama “Sudden”, about the lives of a group of young lawyers and the complicated ties between them, says her character is no traditional heroine.

“I play the kind of lawyer who is incredibly professional, but that of course entails defending people audiences are not going to side with,” said Rui En.

She explained that one story arc even sees Cheng defending a talent manager who coerces the actresses he manage into trading sexual favours for acting opportunities, though Cheng eventually does the right thing in the cases she handle.

Cheng herself has a bit of an attitude as well, and it’s one of the reasons why Rui En loves playing her.

“I like the fact that it’s not your cut and dried female lead where you are supposed to be likeable.

“Right from the start, she is not likeable. It’s definitely my b****iest role so far!”

“It’s a lot of fun to not have to think about being likeable,” said Rui En excitedly, pointing out that anti-heroines are simply “more interesting to play”.

Law, justice and shades of grey

Rui En expressed that she actually didn’t expect to enjoy shooting the show this much, as all her early scenes for the drama were “lovey dovey crying scenes”.

However, she changed her mind when they started shooting the scenes highlighting Cheng’s personality and her work as a lawyer, something which she found “fascinating”.

“I have done four police shows, where it’s all about ‘I am going to catch criminals!’, but then I do this show and I realise there is a different world altogether.

“The police can do their investigating, but all it takes is one detail and the lawyer can make use of that one detail to get people off the hook,” gushed Rui En.

The actress went on to reveal that she had been watching legal dramas, as well as reading the autobiographies of top lawyers to prepare for her role, and also learned quite a bit about the legal profession along the way.

“This profession is not necessarily always about justice,” said Rui En, quoting a line from an autobiography she read, adding that the world of law enforcement is a world with only “black and white”, while the legal profession is filled with “shades of grey”.

“Sudden” which also stars Romeo Tan, Rebecca Lim, Zhang Zhen Huan as well as Ian Fang, will air in September.

陈罗密欧首次担当第一男主角压力大，与人气女王瑞恩共谱恋曲，坦言拍亲密戏时不敢主动。

演员阵容强大的新传媒8频道新剧《骤变》昨日举行记者会，主要演员瑞恩、陈罗密欧、林慧玲、张振寰、方伟杰、宋怡霏、袁帅、郭亮、黄炯耀、蔡琦慧和胡佳琪等出席。

陈罗密欧在剧中饰演一名叫方启亮的律师，因一场意外，失去了行动能力，必须坐轮椅。首次担当男主角的他，接受xinmsn的访问时坦言，这是他有史以来接过最难的角色。

在剧中首次搭配瑞恩饰演一对恋人，虽然曾合作过《最火搭档》及《花样人间》，但陈罗密欧透露，之前几乎都没有和她对到戏，私下也没机会沟通，因此一开始因为不知道自己和瑞恩的合作默契如何而感到非常担心。

此外，他们在剧中饰演一对相恋了6年的情侣，’有点老夫老妻’的感觉了，因此感情戏也是挑战之一。
但，陈罗密欧感激瑞恩，常带他入戏，尤其是亲密戏，常让陈罗密欧感到害怕，不知道自己的举动应该有多亲密，但瑞恩都会做主动，让他比较放心。

瑞恩赞陈罗密欧态度好

瑞恩接受xinmsn专访时，也称赞陈罗密欧是位用功的演员，因为他还算新人，还在学习当中，因此大家都在尽力帮助他，而他的学习态度也很好。

她补充，两人才刚开始合作，还在摸索的阶段，彼此的默契还在培养当中。
瑞恩在《骤变》里饰演一名叫程楚宁的律师，她透露，这个角色的起伏很大，与陈罗密欧的感情也会遇到波折，因此感情及内心戏比较复杂。

同样首次扮演律师的她，也非常喜欢这个角色。’之前拍了4部警匪片，很多人的印象就是瑞恩每次都是在演警察，然后之前也都是以警察的角度去看很多东西。’

‘这个角色也跟我上一部戏《志在四方》的角色差太多了，《志在四方》里的方彤琳是很有喜感的一个角色，拍的时候很轻松，但《骤变》里的程楚宁不是一个开朗、搞笑的角色，所以我在演的时候也受到角色的感染，变得没那么开朗，不过对观众来说可能会有新鲜感，因为刚好是180度的转变。’

两人在7月也将前往澳大利亚的塔斯马尼亚拍摄，曾因《微笑正义》到澳门去的瑞恩对于再次出国拍摄，感觉非常幸运，但因为7月份是冬季，有点担心天气太冷。

Keep your eyes peeled on Ch8’s upcoming drama series, Sudden, when it debuts in September. Expect intense courtroom drama(s) with an underlying poignant (and heartbreaking, says Rui En) love story between its two lead characters, Romeo Tan and Rui En. If that’s not reason enough, Sudden is headlined by a bevy of eye candies too i.e., the TV station’s hottest (and rising) young stars such as the abovementioned two actors, Rebecca Lim, Ian Fang, Zhang Zhen Huan and Yuan Shuai.

These actors will play characters that are unlike the TV roles they have done so far. Rui En shows her romantic side as Cheng Chu Ning; Romeo turns his charms on as an ace law student and hotshot lawyer; Rebecca goes schizoid with two extreme roles and plays twin sisters; Ian plays an honest pupil who can’t tell a lie to save his life; and Zhen Huan is out to impress as an eloquent and hard-hitting lawyer.

As the #1 male lead in this show, Romeo’s feeling the heat and needs to live up to expectations. He romances one of the TV station’s top actresses Rui En, plays a confident and mature lawyer, and on top of everything, has to look suave doing all that while maneuvering himself around on a wheelchair.

On top of physical limitations, Romeo called the role’s technical and lengthy lines his next biggest challenge. “I think this is the first time I’ve had so many NG (no good) takes in a show,” he said, chuckling in embarrassment, “I’ve had more than 10 NG takes in one scene; the dialogue and these terms are unlike what we use in everyday conversation so there’s nothing you can do except memorise these lines by heart.”

Thankfully, his scenes with Rui En have been pretty smooth-sailing so far. Initially one of his biggest concerns, the 28-year-old told us that his onscreen partner is supportive and easy to work with.

“It helps that she’s been the one taking the initiative in this role ‘cos I’m still nervous when it comes to behaving intimately around her,” he quipped. “When she gives me the green light, I’ll move on from there. I think the chemistry between the both of us so far is pretty good.”

Looking sleek and polished in his formal court attire, Zhen Huan impressed us as the well-groomed and sharp-tongued Sun Da Lun.

On top of playing Rui En’s subordinate in the show, Zhen Huan will also spend a fair bit of time acting opposite Rebecca Lim’s twin sisters roles (Huang Yi Xing and Guo Wei Qian) in the show.

Constance Song will play Rui En’s mentor in Sudden.

由瑞恩与陈罗密欧领衔主演的8频道九点档《骤变》昨天举行开镜记者会。

陈罗密欧在《骤变》中饰演一名自信十足的年轻律师方启亮，后来因为一场意外，不幸残废，之后经过多年女友的不断支持与鼓励才振作起来。瑞恩则是饰演陈罗密欧的女友，是一名个性尖酸刻薄、不择手段的律师。

为了给观众带来新鲜感，剧组还特地拉队到澳大利亚的塔斯马尼亚（Tasmania）取景。

瑞恩：角色有难度

新科视后瑞恩接到剧中律师“程楚宁”的角色，勤奋看香港及美国以法律为题材的电视剧“做功课”。

瑞恩表示这次角色是她演艺生涯中最具难度的角色之一，但因为有新鲜感，所以她蛮喜欢这个角色。

她和陈罗密欧虽然之前有合作过《花样人间》，但对戏的机会不多，这次为了《骤变》除了得努力诠释好各自的角色，还得多培养默契。

陈罗密欧在新传媒熬了三年终于有出头天，不但在新剧《骤变》里首次担任第一男主角饰演瑞恩男友，也能和瑞恩一起飞到澳大利亚谈情说爱。

“瑞恩有好笑和疯狂的一面”

他昨天在该剧的记者会上兴奋地透露，将和瑞恩一起下个月到澳大利亚的塔斯马尼亚拍摄外景：“在戏里，我和瑞恩都是律师，在塔斯马尼亚偶然相遇并成为情侣。塔斯马尼亚下个月是冬天，白天较短，因此我期待每天能提早收工，晚上出去玩。”

第一次和“冰美人”瑞恩合作，陈罗密欧坦言心理会感到有点压力：“我和瑞恩本来不熟，加上她又是我的前辈，有很丰富的演戏经验，这些让我感到有点压力。不过私底下聊天后，我发现她其实没有像大家说的那么冷，她也有好笑和疯狂的一面。”

瑞恩不接亲热戏在业界广为人知。问陈罗密欧要如何与她谈情说爱，他说：“我们在戏里有牵手，不过我会等她先采取主动，我才做下一个反应。”

法庭剧一向都是观众喜爱的剧种之一。《骤变》讲述一群律师和他们官司的故事。剧里的题材取自现实生活，有经理人强迫女明星接客案、借精产子乌龙案、儿子争夺父亲财产案等，相信能引起观众共鸣。

《红星大奖2013》圆满落幕，今年的颁奖典礼没有太大惊喜或爆冷，唯因黄文永德突然离世，笼罩着淡淡的悲伤。

粉丝投票累垮 瑞恩甜笑回报

2场颁奖礼，4个奖，瑞恩拿奖拿到手软：“冷面公主”体恤粉丝奋力投票，连续两周笑脸盈盈，甜笑回报！

瑞恩凭《最火搭档2》二度获得“视后”，心情大好，以往在颁奖典礼不苟言笑的她，为何那么开心？她说：“最近的心情真的比较好，因在在拍《志在四方》，角色是比较有喜感的，所以每天开工都带着微笑。这次和周崇庆合作，他还常常搞到我笑场。”

瑞恩表示，她的情绪会受到角色的影响，“比如上次拍《最火搭档》，同事都说我很有距离感，脸非常臭。”

得到两届视后，瑞恩希望可以演更多不同类型的角色，比如专业人士，“下一部剧就知道会演律师，所以非常期待。其实我也想拍更多喜剧角色，还有继续演动作片。”

瑞恩拿奖拿到手软，她的粉丝兵团更火力全开，这段日子疯狂为她投票。日前公布成绩的《新加坡e乐大赏》，曾是三连霸的瑞恩在“e乐人气本地电视演员”败给同门的欧萱。记者问她落败感受，瑞恩说：“我不觉得可惜或遗憾。我晓得粉丝们非常努力投票，这已经足够了。我最近笑得比较多，一方面也是回馈他们多年来的支持。我知道他们近日来投票投得很累，很辛苦，所以想让他们在荧幕上看到我的笑容。”

The up-and-comers explore a brand new side of themselves in The Dream Makers

You’ve seen Ian Fang get into fights, cross-dress as a girl, and break hearts with emotional bawling scenes, but have you ever seen the Star Awards 2013 Best Newcomer bust a dance move? In The Dream Makers, you will.

While Ian appeared more confident about his dance scenes, his co-star Jayley Woo confessed that she wasn’t as self-assured.

In addition to this fresh-faced twosome, the drama also stars Best Actress Rui En. Viewers will get to see her break away from her usual no-nonsense roles to portray a cute and quirky rookie director-turned-variety star, which she found extremely enjoyable to play.

“This role is the most fun of my career so far,” she declared. “I’ve had tons of space to be as comedic as I dare to go.” For instance, when her character’s variety show co-host (played by veteran actor Chen Hanwei) advises her to pretend the camera is her crush to soothe her stage fright, she pictures her object of affection (played by Qi Yuwu) blowing kisses at her – something we’d imagine warrants a laugh-out-loud moment!

She’s also been very happy and comfortable with all her onscreen pairings. “Whether it’s Yuwu, Shaun Chen, or Jeanette Aw, we all work very well together.”

This won’t be the last time Rui En, Ian and Jayley appear in the same series together. After filming for The Dream Makers wraps, they’ll embark on another production called Sudden. Rui En and Ian will both play lawyers, while Jayley will act as a celebrity dealing with contract issues.
