A band of local actors and actresses took to the stage on Tuesday afternoon to highlight a couple of MediaCorp programmes in the pipelines for 2012.

With period dramas such as the currently-airing Kampong Ties, A Song to Remember and the soon-to-air Code of Honour making waves on local television, viewers will be glad to know that there will be more of such shows in 2012. Slated for a June telecast in 2012, Joys of Life, will feature a seasoned cast which includes names like Chen Li Ping, Rui En, Chew Chor Meng, Huang Wen Yong, Rayson Tan, Lin Mei Jiao and more.

Joys of Life will be MediaCorp’s mega 30th drama anniversary blockbuster drama. It will take viewers on a whirlwind journey back into the ’60s and ’70s to unveil the secrets behind the glitz and glamour of the entertainment scene with familiar characters such as “Sakura”, “Wang Sha” and “Ye Feng”, heralding the drama series.

Code of Honour 正义武馆 debuts 5 December 2011 7pm on Channel 8.

Joys of Life 花样人间 debuts June 2012 9pm on Channel 8.

Princess or Queen?

These are all labels, said Peh, who was called one of the Seven Princesses of MediaCorp, along with Felicia Chin, Fiona Xie, Jeanette Aw, Rui En, Dawn Yeoh and Jesseca Liu.

She became known as the next Queen of Caldecott Hill after four of the actresses left MediaCorp.

Peh stressed: “I’d rather work for something more substantial and real, like a role, than for a label.

“I’ve just returned from a holiday in London and there, terms like ‘princess’ and ‘queen’ are very real.

Here, they are just name tags in entertainment.”

Elvin Ng, Joanne Peh and Rui En were among the many stars who lent some glitz and glamour to a press conference on Thursday, to announce the launch of MediaCorp’s new channel, 8 International (8i) in Indonesia.

The 24-hour Mandarin channel, which will be available on Indonesia’s main pay television operator Indovision’s Channel 151 from Saturday, will draw from MediaCorp’s extensive library to provide subscribers with quality drama content.

“With an increasing popularity of our Chinese dramas in the region, we see this as an opportune time to start an aggregated channel.

“The inauguration of 8i represents a new milestone for MediaCorp. This channel penetration helps us further extend the reach of our Chinese dramas overseas and at the same time, generates new revenue stream for the company.” said Mr Chang Long Jong, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of MediaCorp.

“We are looking to launch 8i in more territories and deliver the channels via other platforms. We hope to move beyond dramas and aggregate other MediaCorp genres in the near future.”

SINGAPORE: MediaCorp Channel 8 will be holding a massive two-day road show from November 19 at NEX Mall, to give audiences a sneak peek at its 2012 drama line-up.

Top Singapore celebrities like Zoe Tay, Tay Ping Hui, Dai Yang Tian, Joanne Peh, Jeanette Aw, Rui En and Zhou Ying will be among the galaxy of stars that will grace the opening day of the event – titled Dramatasy – to introduce their new drama projects.

Described as a “carnival of fun and excitement”, the event’s opening day will also feature stilt walkers, face painters and balloon artists.

A giant prop train with video screens showing snippets of Channel 8’s 2012 drama line-up will be the centrepiece of the festivities.

A total of 38 MediaCorp artistes are expected to turn up over the course of Dramatasy.

According to a Channel 8 spokesperson, Dramatasy is the broadcaster’s biggest road show in recent years, and took weeks to conceptualise and prepare for.

With Xiao Man and co. set to return for more action next year, it’s no wonder various fanclubs on Twitter have been buzzing with excitement; even creating a hashtag (#Unriddle) for the programme prior to its production and airing.

Apart from retaining its original cast which features Rui En, Chen Li Ping and Tay Ping Hui, TV viewers can expect new additions and characters from faces like Elvin Ng, Romeo Tan, Julie Tan, Sora Ma, Yuan Shuai and more.

At the drama’s imaging session last week, xinmsn caught up Elvin, who just returned from a four-month long shoot for Code of Honour in Malaysia. Taking on the role of an astute cop called Lang Feng, Elvin will be veering away from his clean-shaven boy-next-door image forUnriddle 2.

Sporting a hint of manly-ruggedness thanks to his newly-grown stubble and brown tan, Elvin chuckled abashedly when he recalled how the fans from Elvinology protested at his newly-cultivated image.

“While I think my new image is refreshing, people around me especially my fans from Elvinology have told me that it looks ‘ugly’ and have asked me to shave it off (laughs). Some have told me it looks different and that they like it.”

Playing Xiao Man’s arch-nemesis in the show, the majority of Elvin’s scenes will be filmed with Rui En. On their back-to-back collaboration after Code of Honour, the 31-year-old gave a hearty guffaw and jested in reply, “She might be sick [of me]!” when we quizzed him on it.

Seeing how the pair won the i-Weekly best onscreen couple award at the 2010 Star Awards for their collaboration in The Dream Catchers, Elvin put our unfounded worries to rest and added, “The both of us have onscreen chemistry and share a good rapport when it comes to work.”

He reassured us that their characters will be “different” from their previous drama and will present an entirely “different feel”.

Since her return to Singapore in end-September after filming Code of Honour in Malaysia for four months, Rui En shares that she’s been regularly hitting the gym to tone up her muscles for Unriddle 2.

You can expect Xiao Man in more kickass fighting scenes as the actress told xinmsn that she spoke with the producer and suggested for them to add ore action scenes in the sequel of Unriddle.

After spending four months exacting kung fu kicks and punches, Rui En says that the shoot in Malaysia was akin to a training session which helped to better prepare her for Unriddle 2.

Rebecca Lim plays a psychiatrist and Rui En’s university junior in Unriddle 2.

Adam Chen will play Wu Zhi Yun, a member of the investigative team who belongs in Xiao Man’s batch in the Police Academy.
