Actress Rui En’s arms were folded and she seemed guarded, as she sat on stage at the Star Awards Show 1 on Sunday.
On social media, she was bashed for scowling and showing “a face as black as her outfit”.
But the star told reporters she was not in the least disappointed, said Lianhe Wanbao. She explained: “I’m not used to sitting on stage like this. But this will be the arrangement next week.”
The stars usually sit in the audience at Star Awards ceremonies. But the new awards shows seem to be taking a leaf out of the books of Hong Kong’s TVB Anniversary Awards, where the stars and their friendships (or rivalries) are on display on stage.
Major Star Awards such as Best Drama will be presented at Show 2 on Sunday.

RBKD: Despite not winning the Favourite Female Character in Star Awards Show 1, Rui En is not disappointed at all as her goal has always been to improve her acting in shows.
She hopes that fans will not be disheartened and to remain optimistic. When asked if she encountered fans who had suicidal thoughts, Rui En replied: “No. If I had a fan who’d harbor such thoughts, he/she is not my fan. I wouldn’t consider them a fan.â€
Nonetheless, she is happy that Against The Tide team walked away with three wins for Best Cameraman for Drama Programme, Best Programme Promo and Best Director.

The Ch8 Senior Exec takes a dig at Rui En, claiming that being cool and angsty ain’t always the formula to winning. The veteran Ch8 actor hopes Rebecca would win as he likes her real-life personality.
A Ch8 Senior Producer shared that this is a tough one but thinks that Rui En shined as her emotions came through and he/she was impressed.
8 DAYS’s choice was between Felicia Chin & Rebecca Lim, with the eventual vote going to Rebecca Lim, calling her the best thing in the otherwise disappointing show. 8 DAYS also shared that Rebecca’s win will prove that you don’t need to be ‘raped’ to win.
