Get hair like Rui En’s
The award-winning local actress-singapore tells Carina Koh the secrets to her soft, silky locks.
What’s your haircare routine like?
“Apart from the usual shampoo and conditioner – I use L’Oreal Paris Total Repair 5 Repairing Shampoo and Repairing Conditioner – I use a leave-in treatment with heat-protecting benefits daily.
I also indulge in a hair mask once every three days to repair damage caused by the heat styling that my hair is subjected to on production sets every day – my favourite is L’Oreal Paris Total Repair 5 Deep Repairing Mask, which makes my hair shinier and more resistant to breakage. These products have made my hair a lot smoother.”
Do you have any must-have hair products?
“Hair masks, leave-in treatments and shampoos that leave my hair feeling clean but not stripped of moisture.”
What’s the best advice you’ve received from a hairstylist?
“Go for regular hair-steaming treatments – they supposedly leave hair stronger, softer and more hydrated.”
What Rui En has been up to lately
This two-time Best Actress winner – well deserved, we say – at the Star Awards (a local awards ceremony that recognises outstanding talents in Mandarin television) has a lot to rejoice about this year.
She’s not only fronting skincare and makeup campaigns for L’Oreal Paris – for the third consecutive year – but is also the new face for the brand’s Total Repair 5 range (other celebrities who have fronted L’Oreal Paris campaigns include Li Bingbing, Aishwarya, Rai Bachchan and Lea Michele).
Catch the 34-year-old actress in two upcoming television shows: The Worlds of Georgette Chen, a three-part docudrama in which she plays local pioneer artist Georgette Chen, and The Journey: Our Homeland (airs in July on Channel 8), in which she plays a bubbly nurse with a flair for Chinese opera.

Last year we shared news on one of our efforts to promote the appreciation and understanding of Singapore’s art development through the commission of a three-part docudrama titled, The Worlds of Georgette Chen.
On 24 April 2015, we welcomed the cast at the Gallery for a press conference on the launch of the docudrama, where attending guests were given a first look at original artwork of Georgette Chen’s Self-Portrait. The premier telecast of the docudrama was officially aired on 29 April 2015, Channel NewsAsia.
Starring MediaCorp’s award-winning actress, Rui En, as Georgette, viewers were invited to immerse themselves into the whirlwind life of Georgette Chen, starting from life in France (1927 to 1933) during the Second World War, along to her journey in Japanese-occupied China and Hong Kong (1934 to 1948), and finally in Penang and Singapore (1950 to 1980), where she made her home.
Artworks by Georgette Chen will be on display in the DBS Singapore Gallery when National Gallery Singapore opens in 2015.

Rui En and Ralph Lee, who plays Eugene Chen, film a scene along the River Seine. Living in Paris, the River Seine was one of Georgette Chen’s many artistic inspirations. Little did she know that a painting of this river would eventually connect her with her leit motif of love, Eugene.

RBKD: One page interview with Rui En where she shares about how it felt playing a real-life icon (Georgette Chen) in docudrama, The Worlds of Georgette Chen. Through this role, she finds a “stark similarity” with the artist whereby both of them are constantly trying to better their craft.
There were many first-times for Rui En in this docudrama. It’s the first time where she did not have many lines to remember; the first time she wore a cheongsam for a show; the first time she fell in love with art.
8DAYS did a special “Boos & Bravos” – The Worlds of Georgette Chen edition. They gave “Bravo” to the inspired casting and Rui En’s myraid costumes which gave the show a more authentic feel, and “Boo” for insufficient airtime for Rui En.
Catch the finale of The Worlds of Georgette Chen this Wednesday (13 May), 8pm on CNA.

RBKD: When asked about what surprised them most, Shane Pow (one of the two hosts of new Channel 8 programme – Getai Challenge), commented that the fans of Getai singers are very hardcore.
Shane thinks that if he can ask them to join his fan club, he is confident that he will be able to trump RBKD.
