Ever since Singapore-based label Zardozë entered the fashion scene in 2011, all eyes have been on them. The brand has since gone on to recruit 2011 Star Creation winner Chen Zhigang as lead designer, as well as Parsons graduate and reality show The Apartment participant John Paul Rangel as Creative Director.
The Zardozë Panthea line is marketed as the high-fashion sister to the brand’s ready-to-wear line, so there was an instantaneous change in mood and design when the runway switched up for the Panthea show.
We say kudos to the designers for coming up with daring and sometimes provocative creations (like the red and black dress below). The painstaking embroidery and embellishments which have become a brand signature really stood out on the runway.
However, as these gowns are obviously meant for red carpet appearances and gala dinners, the brand still has room to develop its knowledge about what sort of cuts and fabrics will find favour with their desired clientele.
That said, we do think that famous front-row attendees Rui En and Fann Wong did look every inch the Caldecott princesses they are, decked out in custom Zardozë creations. Designs fit for Singapore acting royalty, we say.

NEW FESTIVAL GROUNDS
While it was no longer at Ngee Ann City in the heart of Orchard Road, the Asia Fashion Exchange’s new location at the Marina Promenade did not disappoint. Situated on the waterfront and across from Marina Bay Sands as well as Gardens By The Bay, the new venue was especially scenic at night.
The Audi Fashion Festival tent was much more spacious this year – 40 per cent larger than the previous one at Ngee Ann City’s Civic Plaza. Showgoers could mingle comfortably and rub shoulders with celebrities, including Fann Wong and Rui En, as well as the who’s who of the local fashion scene, such as designer Jo Soh of Hansel and fashion director Daniel Boey.
Blueprint, the Exchange’s tradeshow and shopping event, was held a stone’s throw away from the tent at the Pit Building.
This made it convenient for guests to spend the afternoon shopping before the evening festivities started.

Drama was clearly where Singapore fashion label Zardozë’s Autumn Winter 2013 collection was heading. The opening soundtrack featured a quote from The Great Gatsby, “I like large parties. They’re so intimate. At small parties there isn’t any privacy†before piping music from the soundtrack of the Baz Luhrmann-directed movie.
If that was to indicate the collection would reference the glitzy 1920s, you guessed right. The Zardozë ready-to-wear collection was designed around the concept of nostalgia and the pinning for a time long past. However even though there were sparkling embellishments aplenty, it was hard to see what was retrospective about the collection.
Metallic snakeskin in electric blue and silver appeared on the runway for the Zardozë ready-to-wear line on tailored blazers and pants, alongside modern day gowns and shift dresses that were perfectly wearable, but didn’t do much to excite. What it did however, was whet our appetites for the highlight of the show, the Panthea line.
The Zardozë Panthea line, the Singapore-based label’s couture line came up trumps with spectacular gowns, each more amazing than the one before. The proof was in the pudding; with front row A-list stars Fann Wong and Rui En showing their support in bespoke Zardozë Panthea gowns, Wong in a jaw-dropping floor-sweeping black gown and Rui En in a emerald green stunner.

More than just fashion shows — we check out what else to put on your must-do list for Audi Fashion Festival 2013
1. Celebrity-watch and gawk at the most outrageous fashion getups.
We might have neither Anna Wintour nor a bevy of Hollywood A-listers gracing the front rows of the fashion shows, but fashion festivals are nevertheless a chance for the rich and the famous (and quasi-famous) to make an appearance in all of their sartorial glory.
Besides designers Mrs Herrera and Carolina Herrera de Baez, Tsumori Chisato, and Hussein Chalayan who will present their respective shows in person, expect also appearances by local celebrities like Fann Wong and Rui En for Zardoze, and Victoria’s Secret supermodel Erin Heatherton, who will open Raoul’s A/W 2013 show.
