FLAME AWARDS
INCREDIBLE SHRINKING WOMAN AWARD
Our Incredible Shrinking Woman Award nominees are half the women they used to be. JEANMARIE TAN, WENDY TEO and SHEELA NARAYANAN report on the downsizing.
RUI EN
Goodbye to chubby cheeks
OVER the years, cherubic actress-singer Rui En, 24, has made no bones about shedding her baby fat.
But shocked viewers have been doing a double take at her increasingly bony shoulders and spindly arms.
The 1.68m-tall Rui En has dropped from 54kg to 47kg, and is currently endorsing LifePharm’s 7-Day Diet.
She said: ‘I hereby give The New Paper the award for Most Inventive Award Categories. I would prefer to consider myself The Incredible Woman, full-stop.’ She insists that she’s ‘healthy’ and not ‘unheathily obsessed’ with her weight.

One reason the Star Awards has been losing its lustre is the lack of fresh faces and talent on the showbiz scene.
Year in and year out, almost the same faces get voted onto the Top 10 most popular awards list – the most watched segment of the show.
So even though fresh faces like Fiona Xie, Felicia Chin, Rui En and Julian Hee have entered the scene, it has been an uphill task for them to make the Top 10 list and share the limelight.

Life no longer revolves around Caldecott Hill. As more celebrities like Jeff Wang, Cynthia Koh and Wong Li-Lin opt for independence from MediaCorp, the number of management agencies here are growing. WENDY TEO (teowyw@sph.com.sg) susses them out …
HYPE RECORDS
Besides being a record label, Hype Records, owned by Singapore Idol judge Ken Lim, is also a concert organiser and artiste management company.
Those signed on to them are Phyllis Quek, Stella Ng, Rui En, Michelle Saram and, most recently, Samantha Tan.
Singapore Idol’s Taufik Batisah and Sylvester Sim also have three-year management contracts with Hype.
