RBKD: Full page coverage on Rui En’s dance sessions for a scene in The Dream Makers 2. That was “one of the hardest things” she has ever done as she repeated a 30-seconds routine some 20 times and still seemed unsatisfied with her progress.

When asked to rank aspects of her job from easiest to toughest, memorising scripts is the easiest as she had done plenty of lawyer and cop roles which had many complicated terms and jargons; working with kids was ranked the toughest as Rui En goes into panic mode everytime a baby cry or scream, “they sound like they’re in such pain!”

She is best known for working her magic on the red carpet. She’s been in the business for nine years, and her clientele reads like a roll call of established stars as well as the cream of the up-and-comers: actresses Rui En and Ya Hui, singer Olivia Ong and actor Romeo Tan.

And it’s not just a matter of racking up an impressive list of names in five years (her first client was Rui En in 2011). The celebrities under her wing have become some of the most talked-about – think Rui En at this year’s Star Awards, wearing that glittery dress by Lebanese designer Zuhair Murad, whose embellished creations are a hot choice among Hollywood A-listers like Jennifer Lopez and Taylor Swift.

Lirong is also quick to credit Rui En for her own success, for the two have struck up a close friendship and see eye to eye on what looks good on the actress. But not all red-carpet looks get approval from critics. When Lirong recently dressed Liping in a menswear-inspired outfit – a corset worn around a long-sleeved shirt paired with pants – the look drew flak for being “passe”.

But Lirong takes such criticism in her stride. “As a young stylist, I don’t let it get to me. Not everyone can agree with my sense of style and it’s impossible to please everybody.”

RBKD: Click on the source for the detailed interview with Rui En, Qi Yuwu, Jeanette Aw & Romeo Tan on their characters’ development in “The Dream Makers 2” and their own personal take on marriages.

Toggle was there to visit the scene of Tong Lin and Jason having their wedding photo shoot when they realised that Fei’er and Yi Ming were at the same location for a work engagement too.

Qi Yuwu shared that although his character, Jason, is fully aware of Fei’er’s feelings for him, Jason is “in no way confused or in a dilemma, because he knows that the one that he loves is Tong Lin”. Tonglin on the other hand, is oblivious to her good friend’s feelings to her fiancé, until complications occurred on the wedding day.

Rui En shared that as a safety precaution, she will definitely be wearing slippers under her wedding gown to prevent herself from stepping on the long train and falling over. She did however share that she finds the long veil really romantic.

And true to Tonglin’s character, she will actually be wearing sneakers to her wedding! Fang Tonglin FTW! :P

Art lovers are looking forward to the National Gallery’s opening in November as the National Collection, comprising some 8,000 works, will finally come back into the public’s eye.

But some of the Gallery’s most prized pieces are already starring in an online video series titled My Masterpiece. The series will feature 12 works, each accompanied by an eclectic bunch of personalities speaking about their impressions of the works.

Painter Georgette Chen is in the spotlight this year. There was a three-part television biopic starring actress Rui En as the unconventional painter and she will be among the cast of characters highlighted in Nanyang, The Musical, an upcoming production at the Singapore International Festival Of Arts. This 1946 Self Portrait was displayed briefly at the National Gallery’s recent Naked Museum night, and is an alluringly enigmatic work. It was painted just after the war and a few years after the death of her husband Eugene Chen.

The Singapore Botanic Gardens celebrates Singapore’s jubilee in a three-day carnival and a range of performances from 7 to 9 August. Visitors will be treated to concerts by local artistes and groups from 7 to 9 August.

In 1959, the Singapore Botanic Gardens was chosen as a venue for then Prime Minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, to launch a series of cultural concerts with a multi-ethnic theme. Singapore’s first “People’s Variety Show”, or Aneka Ragam Ra’ayat, was held in the Gardens during the early years of nation building.

In continuing this tradition, the concert will feature favourite local acts in a multicultural extravaganza, hosted by Suhaimi Yusof and Vernetta Lopez. Local groups and artistes including 53A, Rui En, John Molina, Olivia Ong, Taufik Batisah, Shabir and Corrinne May will form the exciting line-up on 7 August from 4pm to 7pm.
