But what brings joy into the lives of the show’s cast members? Channelnewsasia.com finds out.
Dogs make Rui En smile
Rui En loves animals.
“Any dog. I am an animal lover,” said Rui En with a smile, when asked what brings joy into her life.
“Whenever I am out, or when I am filming, and I see a dog, it lights up my face.”
Unfortunately for Rui En, who plays a young woman that stays strong despite being mistreated by her foster father in “Joys of Life”, her grandmother is afraid of animals, so she can’t keep a pet dog.

Some 300 fans got the chance to catch the first episode of upcoming blockbuster drama serial “Joys of Life”, more than a week before it airs, during the special “Joys of Life” Cha-Chum-Bo Party promotional event, on Friday at TAB.
Apart from getting an early peek at the 60s period piece, which commemorates the 30th anniversary of Singapore Mandarin drama, they also had the chance to hear about what happened behind the scenes from cast members Rui En, Alien Huang, Cynthia Wang, Andie Chen, Chen Li Ping and Kate Pang.
The cast recounted the most memorable bits of working together on “Joys of Life”, such as the time Huang broke wind right in the middle of a scene, but managed to act as though nothing happened; or how Chen Li Ping could be joking around on set, but instantly wept when she had to do a tragic scene, then cracked jokes again with her face still wet with tears.
These tales left everyone in stitches – Rui En kept doubling over in laughter as Chen Li Ping worked the crowd and drew waves of laughter from the audience at the cosy venue.
“It was so hard for me to keep from laughing on the set with her (Chen Li Ping)!” said Rui En, in between fits of laughter.
However, the mirth quickly gave way to excitement when it was time for the poster-signing segment of the event, which gave the fans a chance to see their favourite stars up close and go home with a signed “Joys of Life” poster.
To top it all off, they even had the opportunity to get a taste of a refreshing mocktail specially concocted for the event, made from passion fruit juice and ingredients like macadamia nut syrup.
While only 300 lucky fans managed to get tickets to the free event – the tickets were snapped up within minutes of being released – viewers will be able to get to see for themselves what all the buzz is about when the show airs on June 26.
The “Joys of Life” Cha-Chum-Bo Party is the first of many activities that will be held this year as part of the MediaCorp Entertains initiative, which aims to extend the experience for consumers of MediaCorp productions beyond the media platforms.

Who is more popular in Singapore’s social media space – singer Stefanie Sun, actress Rui En or Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong?
Singapore–based firm All The Worlds Entertainment (ATWE) believes their new multi-genre social media aggregating tool, starcount, will be able to provide the answer to that question.
What starcount does is draw data from 11 major social media networks like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and China’s Sina Weibo, process it, and assign a starcount score to the various entities in the social media space via a weighted formula in real time – taking into account their popularity and the amount of engagement they generate among social media users.
This processed data is then organised, updated daily and presented in thousands of charts available over the website starcount.com.
So just who is more popular among Singapore’s social media users? Is it Sun, Rui En or the Prime Minister?
According to starcount, Singapore singer Sun is most popular, with the Prime Minister trailing behind at the 52nd spot in its Singapore popularity chart, followed by Rui En in 66th position.
