Yesterday, a Rangel came to our set. She handed me a tub of biscuits and a letter.
Then she told me she got into Yale. She said she wrote her entrance essay about me. In the envelop was a letter, her entrance essay, and the letter informing her she made it into Yale.
I felt as though I was the one who made it into Yale, elated.
Thank you for the incredible inspiration and encouragement.
I will continue to try to be a better person.

I recently read an article about how sham doctor filler injection led to double amputation for a lady. Her arms are emputated from the forearm down. Yet it was her message that struck a deep chord.
“We are enough and we were made to be enough.
I’ll never forget this sentence till the day I die.

Been a damn long time I’ve done one of these eh?
Took some getting used to not working. But when you have the luxury of being confounded about which of 20 books to start first…….one book for morning reading, one for afternoon kopi time then one for bedtime…………egads! But you know what? Aww yeah this is how we roll…….
Books :
– One Man’s View of the World by Lee Kuan Yew
(Big Bang, sorry dudes, LKY is my man forever)
– Bible
– Moranthology by Caitlin Moran
– How To Hear From God by Joyce Meyer
Movie :
This is not hyperbole. But if you have not watched Cold Eyes you need to run, beg for a copy from the distributor, fly to Korea to watch it, give up your life savings, BTO be damned! to watch it. I was practically in tears seeing how Asia cinema has come so far, surpassing Hollywood. This is the first movie I paid to watch twice.
Music :
– Young and Beautiful by Lana Del Rey
– Satellite Call by Sara Bareilles
– Unashamed by Starfield
– The Heart of Worship by Matt Redman
– 100$bill by Jay-Z

Today marks the end of the spring cleaning project. I really must say how proud I am of all involved. From everyone who cleaned to the Dad that came to help with the drilling. Everyone who helped in some way.
While I was scrubbing I thought, “Perhaps the state of the flat may return to original some day.” But we have to remind ourselves to do without expecting anything back in return.
Most of us live in much comfort. Pretty sure majority of us don’t do housework at home, yet I saw everyone cleaning, scrubbing, etc MULTIPLE times dues to the state of the flat.
Proud of u guys.
Respect……..

“You may find yourself in the dead of night
Lost somewhere up in the great big beautiful sky
You were all just perfect little satellites
Spinning round and round this broken earthly life”
“Satellite Call” by Sara Bareilles
It’s funny. We all were satellites spinning round and round with no direction at all. Some of us had no clue where we were headed. Some of us even crashed into other equally lost satellites.
But today when I watched the team battle the monstrous cockroaches and wrestle with huge garbage bags, it just all fell into place.
What are we living for?
Love.
And I hope RBKD continues spreading that love.
So proud.

So many people ask me why I do what I do.
So many don’t understand why I wouldn’t wanna pursue “greater” ie. more lucrative, interests.
Sure, here in Caldecott, we’re a long way from Hollywood and Beijing.
But. Have you listened to the piece of music from Cloud Atlas?
Have you watched Life of Pi or Perks of Being a Wallflower?
Can you comprehend how a line of a song or dialogue can change someone’s life forever?
Why I do this? Because I believe. In how music and cinema can change your life. Can leave you feeling a sort of disorientation that lasts for days.
Can leave you feeling human.
Whether Hollywood or Channel 8.
This. Is why I do what I do.

Despite the initial disorientation I feel everytime I get a break, I’ve been catching up on my movie-watching.
Each time I watch a good movie, I get this very strange curiousity that’s so hard to articulate. A curiousity to know what happens when there is a break in the 時空。
Let me give you an example, I was rewatching Away From Her, a well-directed and well-acted movie about a man dealing with his wife’s Alzheimer’s. Eventually it got to a point where he had to place her in a nursing home where the policy was that for the first 1 month the patient couldn’t have ny visitors at all to let them get accustomed to staying there. After a few heart-wrenching scenes where the couple had to separate after not being apart for a month over the last 44 years, the husband had to leave. The next time you see him is 1 month later where he goes back to the nursing home excited to see his wife.
I kept wondering, how did he get thru the 1 month? 1 month can be a long time if you love someone deeply. Did he cry everyday? Refuse to get out of bed?
But really, isn’t life actually made up of a papier mache of all those points that normally are edited out of a movie for pacing’s sake? Rather than all the climaxes, high and low points. The strange part is some people spend their lives chasing the climaxes rather than accepting the edited-out parts.
Spoiler alert : BTW, I felt compelled to pass on the message that there will be no death in 微笑. Mainly cos I can understand not wanting to get emotionally invested in a character when you think you already know her destiny. So, no.
Imaging for CLIF next week.

Flight at an ungodly hour tomorrow morning and we hit the ground running. Flight at an ungodly hour back too. Yer pres wanted to see if u guys could send me off, but the hours are too ungodly. How many times can one use the word ungodly in one sentence?
Gonna miss Mondays epi which am so looking forward too. It was heart wrenching for me to do that scene. Almost as painful as the internal bleeding I sustained from trying not to laugh when LP was Wang Bao Chuan.
Dark Knight was disappointing, non?
Stay safe Rangels.
