The latest round of updates for Star Awards 红星大奖 2011 Online Awards is out!

Elvin Ng 黄俊雄 as Zou Jie Ming 邹杰明 in Breakout 破天网 and Rui En 瑞恩 as Yang Xiao Dong 杨小冬 in Happy Family 过好年 have managed to remain in the top position in the Favourite Male and Female Characters 最喜爱男/女角色 categories respectively at the moment.

So, what’s with the header? So who are no longer the leads?

Jeanette Aw 欧萱 and Christopher Lee 李铭顺 (twice lucky for Chris!!) as Yang Nian Qing 杨念青 and Situ Dong Cheng 司徒东城 in Breakout 破天网 have lost out to Elvin Ng 黄俊雄 (twice lucky for Elvin too!) and Zhou Ying 周颖 as Zou Jie Ming 邹杰明 and Tang Ying 汤颖 in the same drama this week.

We’re into Week 2 of the Top 10 updates! Who’s in and who’s out for now? Let’s find out!

With Ann and Yi Fong’s entry into the chart this round, Kym Ng 鐘琴 and Pan Ling Ling 潘玲玲 are replaced but just temporarily. Newcomers to the Top 10 awards, Zhou Ying 周颖 and Tiffany Leong 梁丽芳 are still going strong while the 3 princesses are safely still on the chart. The situation changes each week so fans, you know what to do to keep your idols on the chart.

But like we said, anything can still happen leading to 24 April 2011 where the Top 10 Most Popular Male and Female Artistes 十大最受欢迎男/女艺人 will be crowned.

Here’s the full list of artistes leading in the 2nd round. The rankings are in no particular order. Public voting makes up 50% of the results, while the remaining 50% comes from the research survey done earlier.

Voting for Star Awards Online Awards has started since 1 March on xinmsn.com/starawards2011! This year, we’ve decided to reveal the nominee in the TOP leading position in his/her respective category every Monday all the way till 11 April 2011! Dark and darker horses abound in the 1st round of updates for the Top 10 Most Popular Male and Female Artistes!

It gets more interesting as we proceed to the list for the Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes. This year could be the year of the dark horses for the ladies…

Like Dennis Chew, latecomer Lim Pei Fen also managed to make it to the 1st round of Top 10 leading names. Could deejays have more luck? Don’t forget they have the best of both worlds – fans from both TV and Radio,

Zhou Ying and Tiffany Leong, both first-timers to the Top 10 awards, have both made it to the list in this round. Despite not being Singaporean natives, the actresses have proved that they have their own group of supporters rooting for them. So stop saying “Who is Zhou1 Ying1?” and “Tiffany who?”. Don’t play play ah.

Kym Ng and Pan Ling Ling who missed out on a Top 10 award last year have bounced back with gusto to make it to this round’s list while Quan Yi Fong and Michelle Chia, who each won a Top 10 award last year, are visibly missing from the list. Yi Fong and Michelle’s fans are probably saving their ammo till the last minute. It’s still anybody’s game at this point.

《红星大奖2011》十大最受欢迎男女艺人入围名单今天出炉，观众将可以透过电话投票的方式，支持你喜爱的艺人。

得票最多的10位男艺人和10位女艺人，将成为《红星大奖2011》十大最受欢迎男女艺人。

投票将从今天开始，一直到4月24日，结果将在4月24日《金碧辉映 红星大奖2011》（第二场）中宣布。

Princesses-in-Waiting Rise Through The Ranks To Become Bona Fide Princesses!

With the departure of princesses Felicia Chin and Jesseca Liu, Zhou Ying, Paige Chua, Eelyn Kok and Tiffany Leong now take their places as the new Princesses of Caldecott Hill, joining Jeanette Aw, Rui En and Joanne Peh. First time lucky? Maybe.

Here’s the full list of this year’s nominees.

The Top 40 Most Popular Nominees were selected and chosen via a poll of around 1000 people (Ages 7 and above) conducted by a media research company. 50% of the votes came from the research survey, while the other 50% will come from public voting. The Top 40 nominees are now at our press conference to pick their telepoll numbers as you read this and we’ll update the telepoll numbers on this post shortly. Voting lines open today at 11am and will close 24 April, 9pm.

The results of the Top 40 will be revealed during the Star Awards 2011 Show 2, Sunday, 24 April, 7pm ‘LIVE’ on Channel 8.

In ‘On The Fringe 边缘父子’, Rui En plays a blind social worker “中途之家”义工，协助囚犯在出狱前适应社会，善良、乐观，虽因意外导致双目失明，却积极面对人生，从不怨声载道。她知道田一邦(Li Nanxing)当年是误入歧途才犯案，其实本人十分正直，遂不断鼓励他开创人生新篇章，并立阻田一邦被反派刘佳丽(Fann Wong)拉入黑道。

Rest will be a luxury for Rui En 瑞恩. First it was ‘A Tale of 2 Cities 乐在双城’, next comes ‘The In-Laws 麻婆斗妇’ (still shooting). Immediately after that, she jumps straight into another drama production ‘On The Fringe 边缘父子’ to be followed closely (maybe even overlapping) with the production of ‘The Righteous 正义武馆’ (she has to do kung-fu) and ending the year with the production of Unriddle 2 最火搭档2.

She will have to work very hard to differentiate the various roles (so far so good) given the unanimous vote of confidence from the various demanding Executive Producers. You either end up with audience finding it ‘too much’ of the same Rui En or you succeed in becoming the next most admired character actress after 黄碧仁 and 李锦梅…

And it is really exciting to have Fann Wong 范文芳 becoming 有情有义黑社会大姐头，内敛不外露，不怒而威，在帮派头目死后，接手管理众弟兄，但面对“内忧外患”，问题重重，深陷危机，这时更发现自己有孕在身。她知道田一邦(Li Nanxing) 重情重义，设法拉拢他。。。

Everybody loves Li Nanxing 李南星 – the Ah Ge of all Ah Ge. He became a household name when he first acted in ‘On The Fringe 边缘少年’ decades ago…now he is back as 田一邦aka前“边缘少年”，出入感化院，后因抢劫兼严重伤人被判入狱，妻子与他离婚。话不多，冷酷，重义气，身手敏捷。出狱后发现一直未见面的儿子正步上歧途，想方设法阻止儿子走上自己的老路，父子间冲突不断。他摆脱不了黑势力，被大姐头刘佳丽拉入阵营，义工莎莎则希望把他拉出来，走回正途。

Besides Zhang Yao Dong 张耀栋 as the evil 新一代黑道老大, we also get to see a strong cast like Yao Wen Long 姚玟隆, Eelyn Kok 郭惠雯 (who is enjoying rising popularity in Malaysia now with her 理温馨亲情电视剧’The Seeds of Life 渔米人家’), Pang Ling Ling 潘玲玲, Brandon Wong 黄炯耀, Constance Song 宋怡霏, Alan Tern 唐育书, Rayson Tan 陈泰铭, Taiwanese newbie Kate Pang 庞蕾馨, Chen Tian Wen 陈天文, Chen Guo Hua 陈国华, etc.

You have gotta watch the lead-up episodes to Star Awards 《红星大奖2011 繁星点点》前奏 debuting on Channel 8 on 19 March at 10.30pm….unlike previous year, the Producers cruelly grilled the stars…the questions were so poky even some stars felt very 无奈 as they couldn’t opt for the usual ’PR & diplomatic’ replies…more on that as a separate post soon…

His name was everywhere in the last 2 Star Awards but no where to be seen in this year’s Star Awards nominations inlcuding the online list… Some fans already ’cry father cry mother’ about why he wasn’t in the ‘Best Actor’ category and even speculated that he could jolly well be ’frozen’ by the company or he ‘offended’ somebody up there…which I am telling you right now that all these speculations are pure rubbish. In every award show, there’ll always be winners and losers. If you don’t do so well this time, just work harder next year…and one day, your hard work will pay off (Rui En worked for 10 years before her first nomination this year)…

You made it happen! Rui En and Chen Li Ping will return in Unriddle 最火搭档 2. Yes, thank you all for your marvellous feedback earlier on. It was one of the best collective efforts from all of you who wanted the return of Unriddle 最火搭档 on Channel 8 to finish the untold story…this time we will unveal the biggest conspiracy that threatens to destroy Xiao Man 胡小曼 and Da Bao 林正仪…

The Executive Producer Paul Yuen 袁树伟 and Story Planner Phang Kai Yee 彭凯毅 studied every single feedback and suggestion given in the comment’s section on my earlier blog post (click to read: http://bit.ly/fEYpJa). The story will pick up from where it ended…both Xiao Man and Da Bao characters will be fully developed. All the familiar characters in the last season will return. Many intriguing new cases will be introduced but every case is now creatively linked to the main storyline (Bravo to EP & Writer!). There will be more fighting scenes for the lead characters and a marvellous story that fully stretches the scope of the 2 roles as you requested. It is never an easy task to write a season 2 but after reading the first conceptual draft, I immediately called the EP to praise him and writer that both succeeded in creating a Part 2 that is even far more superior than Part 1! I could actually feel the great tribulations awaiting Xiao Man and Da Bao…mark my words – it is not going to be easy for both Rui En and Chen Li Ping but given their acting capabilities, I am confident both will be able to handle the extreme physical and emotional challenges.

Unriddle 最火搭档 2 is confirmed for a 2012 release. The EP & Writer have gotten the official go ahead to move into production mode…once again, thank you all for your feedback and suggestions. It is not going to be a  great season 2 without your passion and participation in the first place – coming from the bottom of my heart.
