8 Days: What do you look forward to most every Star Awards?

Rui En: Wah (ponders)… I guess, it’s seeing my fans! You know, just being able to see them face-to-face and listening to them cheering for me. It warms my heart and it makes me happy! I’m so blessed that they really support me!

8 Days: What are your fondest memories of the annual event?

Rui En: Hmm… I’m not really sure… Every year goes by in a haze… But ultimately the most memorable thing is still the love from my fans lah. More so than winning any award because what’s important for me is to focus on my craft and not so much the recognition.

RBKD: Xu Bin, who is currently in China for Chinese New Year, mentioned that he “will be returning to Singapore soon though to film upcoming Ch 8 drama Old Is Gold, where he stars as a kind-hearted ah beng opposite Rui En who plays his love interest. “It’s going to be a May-December relationship so I’m pretty excited for that,” he says about romancing his 38-year-old co-star onscreen.”

RBKD: This is part of 8Days’ interview with Dennis Chew for his movie. In the interview, there was a one-liner mention that Dennis is a Star Award-nominated actor whom 8Days think he should have won the Best Suppporting Actor award back then for his portrayal as Rui En’s reporter brother in “The Dream Makers”.

RBKD: 8 Days said that Rui En’s back looking fresher and healthier than ever and that the crowd would surely agree with them. They also added that they had heard her arriving long before she appeared, thanks to the very passionate screams at event.

Where There’s A Will, There’s A Rui

RBKD: Half a page is dedicated to Rui En’s cover in Jan 2015 which is art directed by herself. Pic takes up a quarter page and writer’s comment in the other quarter. The writer Jonathan Fam shared how the photographer and Rui En decided to make their way to a coffee shop, not convinced that their earlier shoot was cover material and that ended up with the “most classic 8 DAYS cover for the millennial generation was born”.
