Bravo to The Dream Makers for making viewers wonder what’s real and what’s reel.
And this tantalising poser is what makes the show, about the behind-the-scenes goings-on in a fictitious TV station, must-see TV. A C-lister (Jeanette Aw) is told by her bosses not to outshine Dawn Yeoh’s nasty Ah Jie in a talkshow; she is also forbidden from taking seats reserved for Ah Jies in a make-up studio and on the bus. Is this really what happens on Caldecott Hill?
The star-studded cast is the second reason this is compelling TV. Two stand-out performers among them: Qi Yuwu (could his real-life romance with Joanne Peh be the reason he’s so convincing playing boyfriend to Jeanette Aw?) and Rui En (her animated portrayal of a scatterbrain producer enlivens the show at every turn).
