Our super anonymous, super insider Star Awards prediction
We huddled in dark corners, slipped secret notes and scanned our office for bugs just to get four MediaCorp insiders to reveal who they think will go home with a Star Award this year. And boy, is it going to be a tight race.
Best Actress
Ch 8 Senior Exec: “Rui En will win. She’s already won the Asian Television Best Actress award for this role.”
Ch 8 Actor: “She may not be an A-lister but Cynthia Koh’s acting talent is undeniable. She has a lot of depth and can make the audience feel what she’s feeling.”
MediaCorp Senior Manager: “Rui En’s acting is very refreshing. This role was very intense and it showed off her range as an actress.”
Ch 8 Drama Producer: “Rui En brought this character to life.”
8 DAYS Pick: Cynthia Koh’s turn as the long-suffering wife of a gambling addict who eventually succumb to the evils of gambling too, is the most gut-wrenching, rip-your-heart-out (and thus most award-worthy) performance of the lot.
Best Drama Serial
Ch 8 Senior Exec: “Don’t Stop Believin’ is the year’s highest-rated drama and an uplifting tearjerker. It has everything the judges are looking for.”
Ch 8 Actor: “I haven’t seen a drama as good as Game Plan in a long time. From the storyline to the acting to the cinematography. It makes you feel like you’re watching a movie.”
MediaCorp Senior Manager: “Poetic Justice has beautiful people, beautiful locations and was beautifully shot. It’s nice to run away from reality a bit.”
Ch 8 Drama Producer: “A lot of effort was put into Unriddle 2.”
8 DAYS Pick: Game Plan trumps the competition on all fronts, from story premise to production values to quality of cast.
