It’s time of the year again to celebrate and honour the region’s best TV contributions and works from the industry. About 40 awards were given out last night at the Shangri La Hotel, and a good portion of them went to the performing categories which saw the nominations of local and regional actors alike. Local stars like Ann Kok, Chen Hanwei, Christopher Lee and Tay Ping Hui who are nominated for their roles in local dramas, added glitz and glamour to the night’s star-studded line-up of regional artistes such as Moses Chan, Nancy Wu, Lee Wei, Yeo Yann Yann and more.
While MediaCorp had a strong showing of multiple nominations across various categories, the local TV broadcasting station only bagged two awards in the performing categories for Best Actress in a Leading Role (Rui En in Ch8’s Unriddle 2) and Best Comedy Performance by an Actor/Actress (Michelle Chong in Ch5’s The Noose).
Rui En, who was absent from the show due to filming commitment for an upcoming Ch8 drama, C.L.I.F.2, shared her thoughts on winning through her manager.
“I would like to thank the production team for giving me room to explore my character and bring out her extreme side through my acting. Without the producer Paul Yuen and scriptwriter Phang Kai Yee, there won’t be Hu Xiaoman today. I have not been able to let go of [the character] Xiaoman completely – even till this day, she will always remain a part of me. I’m grateful. Thank you ATA,†she said.
