Caldecott Hill’s new seven princesses: can they make the cut?

By Joyce J. Chansingh

With the original seven princesses now dwindling down to four, we say it’s high time we get started on our prediction on the next crop of seven promising and young actresses worthy of a tiara title.

It was great while it lasted but like fairy tales, all good things must come to an end. With the impending departure of Jesseca Liu from the diminishing amalgamate of ‘Seven Princesses’ – a term first coined by a local magazine a few years ago – and the remaining four (Jeanette Aw, Joanne Peh, Felicia Chin and Rui En) primed to be the ‘New Ah Jies’, will this spell the end of a princess-era in Caldecott Hill?

Ok, so the term ‘Seven Princesses’ was created for the sake of media hype or perhaps just a random creative conception by the local magazine, and don’t mean nothing to you, but still, it’s not your run of the mill matter to the devoted fans who will painstakingly fight to defend their ‘princesses’ as seen in forums and blogs.

So here at xinmsn.com, we round up a new batch of seven young and promising starlets who [we think] are poised to succeed the tiaras in the coveted list of Caldecott Hill’s [next] ‘Seven Princesses’. Drumroll, please:

Paige Chua, 28

Touted by some to be the next Rui En, for her cool, independent personality and sometimes aloof approach off-screen, this beauty with brains – Paige’s an NUS graduate who majored in Sociology and Geography – may not be everyone’s cup of tea but she’s definitely here to stay.

Kola Zhou Ying, 24

Today, Zhou Ying has signed on with MediaCorp following the success of her notable performance as Hui Min, one the lead role in Channel 8 drama, “Together”. Highly touted as the next big thing, the cute as a button Shanghainese lass who speaks pitch-perfect Mandarin made her debut in a small role in “Table of Glory” and will join the three reigning Caldecott princesses – Rui En, Fiona Xie and Felicia Chin – to host a new 4-parter travelogue show that’s been scheduled to air in mid 2010.
