The concept of RBKD Annual Giving started last year in 2010. RBKD’s Anniversary falls on the month of November, which coincides with Thanksgiving in the United States. Hence November becomes a month for us to count our blessings and show our gratitude for the love and concern received by doing a small part for our community.
Last year, nearing November, earthquakes, floods and typhoons affected our neighbouring countries. So we donated more than $300 to the various disaster relief programmes via World Vision Singapore. (Link)
This year, we thought we could do a little more than just donating money. It was also opportune that RBKD was successfully recognised as a registered society in Singapore on 8 November 2011.
Hence we organised our own RBKD Newspaper Collection Drive and collected 1400KG load of newspapers, in exchange for $350. (Link) Internally, we received monetary contributions from members who wish to express their gratitude towards RBKD through this Annual Giving exercise.
So together, we raised $1000. Given our understanding of how Community Chest fund the Charities in Singapore (RBKD is the designer of the current ComChest CD, sold in ComChest Shop at Suntec City Shopping Mall), TrueHearts 2011 was a convenient platform for us to make the donation.
However, we were not quick enough to make $1000 worth of calls during Rui En’s performance segment. Someone quickly reminded us thereafter that the telepoll donations were GST-liable, donating online would be better as it is tax free. Should have realised earlier but better late than never.
It warms my heart when my members step forth to pledge a donation for our Annual Giving. There is no minimum sum but many have donated generously, for their belongingness in RBKD and for the trust they have in us that the money will be given to the right cause.
Here is the breakdown of the $1000 donated to ComChest:

It feels absolutely great to be able to finally give back to our community in the official name of RBKD.
