“Rui En’s as warm as fire”

As the jocular Fang siblings on The Dream Makers, Dennis Chew and Rui En have become TV’s best non-romantic couple ever. We speak to the actor-DJ about his crackling comedic chemistry with his onscreen sis.

8DAYS: People really love you as Fang Yuanren, the pesky tabloid reporter and elder bro to Rui En, in The Dream Makers.

Dennis Chew: I’m more surprised that I was offered a role so quickly after It’s a Wonderful Life. Fang Yuanren is actually a minor role but he’s quite a character. I think viewers like me because of my chemistry with Rui En.

Yes, you guys are really believable as siblings.

You think so too? I’m going to tell her! I think viewers like how real we are. In reality, you’ll always have a love-hate relationship with your siblings. You love them, but you’ll complain and quarrel with them.

How did that rapport came about?

I felt it during our first imaging session. We were supposed to take ‘family’ portraits that day. She probably knew that I felt awkward, so she cosied up to me and said, ‘You’re my brother!’. So professional! From then on, I called her Mei (Mandarin for ‘little sister’.) On the first day of filming, she easily ‘caught and bounced the ball’ back to me whenever I ad libbed. Such chemistry is very hard to come by.

How much of the lines were ad libbed?

Not much. The producers gave us free rein as long as we didn’t change the meaning of the lines. Rui En had bugged me to tie my hair in the same [Teletubby antenna-way] she does, and she played along when I added this impromptu scene where we ‘connected’ our ‘antennas’. We burst into laughter after the director shouted ‘Cut!’

It seemed as though you guys were already good friends before the show.

Yah, that’s what makes our chemistry even more impressive. I didn’t know her well at all [before this show.] We hardly talked when we saw each other around MediaCorp. I remember hosting the launch of her album when she first started out as a singer, but that was it.

Well, she’s known as an ice queen.

Sorry, no. To me, she’s as warm as fire. She’s misunderstood and I want to protect her because she’s just being professional at work. My elderly brother instinct is coming out. I really love her as a sister.

Do you guys still keep in touch?

Not so much. She’s too busy filming. I recently sent her an SMS to tell her how much I miss her and also to invite her to watch the musical Army Daze, but she couldn’t make it. I hope to meet her for a meal to catch up.

真假瑞恩

瑞恩一向被称为冷酷公主，但第一次和她接触的记者却发现，瑞恩并不如每个人口中如此冷静。访问时，瑞恩不时开怀大笑，爽朗笑声完全打破谣言的形象。演艺圈的真真假假、假假真真，到底哪个才是真实的瑞恩？！

顺着感觉演

瑞恩在拍完《志在四方》后，还来不及休息就马上投入新剧《骤变》的拍摄。两部戏的角色反差特别大，让观众再次见识了瑞恩演技上的多变伸缩性。

在《志》里，瑞恩饰演一名从导演升级的主持人，她表示，《志》是她拍过最有喜感的角色，拍起来超轻松，好友陈莉萍还笑她是“笑叮咚”！“台词比较生活化不会太难背，我都是到了片场后，顺着感觉去演。”　她和饰演哥哥的周崇庆对戏时，常会说出和剧本相反的台词，而且每个take都有不同的pattern！瑞恩不断笑着重复：“拍这部剧很好玩，我很开心，真的很开心！”

下次还要不要再接类似的角色？她马上道：“我会！”　她说，演有喜感的角色天天心情好，对她而言，人生短暂，开心很重要。

瑞恩目前在赶拍《骤变》，饰演一名正经严肃的律师，她希望这次的角色会带给观众新鲜感，因为难得bitchy，说话也非常尖锐刻薄。之前演了4部警匪片的瑞恩还分享有趣发现：“律师的角度是不同的世界，警察可以做好调查，然后放下，把整个案件交给律师，但是，只要警察调查时其中一个细节或程序是不对的，律师就可以利用这个来脱罪。”

“有时拍《骤变》感到很累，压力很大时就会想起《志》的搞笑画面，然后会对自己笑，其他人应该会觉得我疯掉了！”

超级电影迷

休息是为了走更长远的路，拍完《骤变》后，瑞恩将难得放假，直到年底开拍《警徽天职3》。空档时，她喜欢一个人呆在家睡觉，看电影，更自称是超级电影迷。她解释：“朋友会问我为什么不出国？对我来说，出国不是很重要，一个人的世界最重要。”

她透露，休息期间想尝试写剧本、当导演，因为她每次看电影都有很多想法和灵感，有时也会把电子放进戏里去演。原来，瑞恩在《志》里的口头禅“我要有王家卫的feel”，就是读了王家卫的报道后所得来的灵感。

自称“懒惰化妆”的瑞恩如果没有工作就尽量不化妆，若在外碰到有人要求合照，她甚至会说：“我今天很丑，你不要拍，你回去看了可能会吐血！”

虽然懒惰化妆，但看起来随性的她却自称是“保养女王”，喜欢尝试使用各式各样的护肤品！“化妆时粉底越少越好，所以皮肤一定要好！”

不过瑞恩坦言：“我不怕老，女人的外貌一定会老，是无法改变的事实，只能尽量保养，一个女人成熟后，思想有所改变对我比较重要，我一向希望自己的思想能更成熟，现在的我跟5、6年前的我，想法改变很多、更成熟了。”

“最火搭档” 瑞恩与陈莉萍此剧碰面机会少之又少.难得因“大场面”见面，瑞恩笑容很多，坐在陈莉萍身边翘脚看剧本，放饭时又躲到大礼堂外一角边吃边聊，“这部戏跟她完全没有对手戏，我们两条线是完全不一样的，蛮失望的。在这样的大场面看到彼此，我们都会很开心，有朋友在！” 瑞恩说。

Who will Qi Yu Wu’s character Jason end up with? Rui En’s Fang Tong Lin or Jeanette Aw’s Zhao Fei Er? Television audiences will get to pick the right girl for Jason in the final episode of the blockbuster drama “The Dream Makers”.

Previous episodes of the blockbuster Mandarin drama “The Dream Makers”, about life in a fictional television station, have attracted as many as 982,000 viewers.

But the finale could well draw a lot more, as viewers will get to decide how the show will end.

In the drama, dashing director Jason (Qi Yu Wu) is stuck in a bit of a love triangle with bubbly variety show host Fang Tong Lin (Rui En) and the ambitious actress Zhao Fei Er (Jeanette Aw), but who will he wind up with?

Television audiences will be able to help him select Ms Right by voting for either Fang or Zhao at xinmsn.com.

Voting begins at 10pm on Friday, and will continue till 12pm on August 2, the telecast date for the series’ final episode.

The voting results will be shown at the beginning and end of each of the four episodes leading up to the drama’s finale, which will feature the ending that received the most votes.

The drama will apparently have a grand total of three possible endings, which will eventually be made available for viewing over MediaCorp’s Toggle personal entertainment service.

新传媒热播重头剧《志在四方》特别拍了3个结局，并从7月26日（星期五）起通过新传媒网站让观众投选。3个结局主要围绕在戚玉武、欧萱和瑞恩的三角关系。观众可选择“开放性”（open ending）的结局，既“节省男”谁都不选，或他最终选择欧萱的“赵非儿”或瑞恩的“方彤琳”。

投选活动尚未开始，欧萱和瑞恩两大粉丝阵营，已经摩拳擦掌准备将支持的偶像保送进大结局。最后哪个花旦能“名正言顺”和戚玉武在一起，完全由影迷来决定。不过，想知道其他可能性的观众，也一样能在新传媒网站上一窥另2个结局版本。

投票活动尚未开始，两派粉丝阵营已在8频道面簿网开掀口水战，虽然不少粉丝留言都颇理智和温和，但也有不少“激进派”互呛弥漫火药味。

收视率近百万

《志》在上星期四创下98万2000收视率，播出至今，每集吸引平均84万人收看，仅次于87万人的《警徽天职2》，暂时排名全年第二。因为剧集在面簿和网络上备受关注与讨论，口碑也佳，以近期屡破90万观众的走势来看，要成为年度最高收视剧集也很有机会。

A Dream ending

Three different endings were shot for The Dream Makers. Vote online for the one you want to see!

We guess the producers of The Dream Makers are just as undecided as we are about who Qi Yuwu’s Jason Lam should end up with in the drama. Why else would they shoot three different endings for the hit Ch 8 drama which has become something of a national obsession, thanks to its charismatic cast and riveting plot? (It’s not the first time multiple endings for Ch 8 drama have been shot.)

Ending #1 for The Dream Makers has Qi Yuwu’s character finding ever-after with Rui En’s Fang Tonglin. Ending #2 sees him reconciling with his ex-girlfriend, Jeanette Aw’s Zhao Fei Er. The third and final possible ending is a – let’s be honest – cop out open-ended one with no definitive answer as to which girl he finally chooses. So which finale will we get when the show climaxes August 2? The answer depends on whether you’re watching the show on free-to-air Ch 8 (you vote for the ending you want – yippie!) or on subscription channels Toggle, MioTV and StarHub (vague, inconclusive ending). Dramas on these latter platforms typically air five episodes ahead of its Ch 8 run.

Ch 8 viewers can vote from this Fri (July 26). The female character with the most votes – daily tallies will be shown at the start and end of the four episodes leading up to the finale – will end up with Qi Yuwu’s Jason. May the lady with the stronger fan base win!

戚玉武、瑞恩、欧萱三角恋吸睛，《志在四方》特别拍摄3结局版让观众选，势掀2花旦粉丝投票战。

新传媒重头剧《志》目前热播，平均收视都在80万以上，过去星期一，收视更破90万，成绩火红。很多原本已“放弃”新传媒剧集的观众，也因《志》开始再追看本地剧，阿姐郑惠玉演技继《不凡的爱》后再上一层楼，怀孕一集牵动人心；陈莉萍演有自闭儿的电视台女强人，强悍表面也有脆弱，让人心疼。欧萱和戚玉武从甜蜜小情侣到价值观分歧各分东西，分手戏让不少观众揪心落泪；戚玉武与瑞恩的惺惺相惜，也扣人心弦。

戚玉武、欧萱和瑞恩之间的三角恋，是《志》故事主轴，非常吸睛。这次，新传媒破天荒拍摄了3个大结局版本：

1) 戚玉武饰演的“节省男”谁都不选，以事业和理想为重；
2) 选择欧萱饰演的“赵非儿”；
3) 选择瑞恩饰演的“方彤琳”

看好‘方彤琳’胜出

《志》监制王尤红说，如果让她选择结局，坦诚确实很难取舍：“我觉得应该会是open ending，谁都不选的那个最好吧，哈哈哈。”不过，她也笑说，从瑞恩粉丝的死忠程度来看，相信大结局应该会是她和阿武在一起。

3结局剪好备用

新传媒宣传部负责人透露，观众可以在下星期五（7月26日）起，在新传媒xinmsn网站上投选想要在8月2日看到的大结局。观众投选出来的结局，也会在8月2日当天播映，不过大家也可以上网观赏其它2个版本结局。

发言人说，每人每天只能用一个账号投票一次。瑞恩和欧萱粉丝一向是本地女艺人中两股最大的粉丝势力。投票开始后难免会掀起一轮粉丝战。
