Greetings and salutations, fellow star gazers! This is May Seah, your Showbiz Sista, with an update on the latest upcoming Channel 8 drama, With You.
So Chen Hanwei stars a dude who dies in a road accident, but whose ghost, for some reason, is still hanging around our earthly realm. He tries desperately to communicate with his family–including his father (Chen Shucheng), his brothers (Nat Ho and Brandon Wong), his sister-in-law (May Phua), and his wife (Rui En) and young daughter.
Since she plays his other half, how sexy does Rui En find Chen Hanwei, on a scale of one to ten? “Ten lah,” she said, after only a slight pause. “He’s mature. I’m appreciative of maturity.”

When Hanwei first heard it was a ghost story, he thought, ‘Oh no, it’s the kind where the ghosts fly about’.” He was wrong. “This ghost is not a spooky ghost. He’s very normal,” Hanwei said. “He’s just desperate to interact with his wife and family, and frustrated because he can’t. That’s all.”
Sporting lovely long hair extensions, Rui En, who found it a real challenge to play the mother of a seven-year-old, told Showbiz Sista, “This was the first show that I really tried to be more womanly and more feminine. And more soft. Of course I go with the character. But this one, I felt that she was a lot softer than a lot of the characters I’ve played before. So I tried to bring that out. It was quite tough.”
One imagines so—but did you know that the Ice Queen can cry on demand? “Nobody can see it; nobody believes it–but I can be very touched by very simple things,” Rui En insisted. “For example, for this show, I went and read Joan Didion’s The Year Of Magical Thinking. It was her memoir of her life after she lost her husband. It was devastating, because she’s a wonderful writer. It would be as simple as just a sentence from her writing that touched me a lot. I’d remember it and I’d just cry. Because I can feel what she’s going through. Or it could be as simple as remembering a scene in a movie or even a TV show that made me cry.”
